Joseph (Joe) Frank Reck, age 74, of Columbus, Texas, passed away on September 10, 2023, after his hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born on February 4, 1949, in El Campo, Texas to the late Ludmilla (Lillian) Polasek Reck and Edwin Edward Reck, Sr. He grew up and worked on their family farm near Hillje, Texas and attended and graduated from Louise High School in 1967. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard and was assigned to the Company B, 6th Battalion, 112th Armored Division in Victoria, Texas, where he served for six years and obtained the rank of Sergeant. Joe met the love of his life, Patricia Drastata at a public dance at the Hillje Hall while in High School, and they were married on July 5, 1969. He started work for Central Power and Light (CPL) shortly thereafter in El Campo as an Electric Lineman and they then moved to Columbus where he continued working for CPL and AEP for over 38 years as an Electric Serviceman. Joe was very active in the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) where he served for over 31 years. He was a founding member of the CVFD Honor Guard and was voted "Fireman of the Year" in 1997. He remained active as a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2971, was a 4th Degree Knight, and Grand Knight for two years. He was a member of the Columbus Lions Club for many years and served on the Board of Directors of the Lions Eye Bank in Austin for several years. He always enjoyed cooking for meetings and fundraising events with his fellow firefighters, Lion's club members, and his Brother Knights BBQ/cooking crew. Joe was a member at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Columbus, where he served as an usher and sang in the adult choir for many years. Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing with his many friends and family, and always loved to tell stories about the one that got away. After retirement, Joe enjoyed gardening at their home, tending to his cattle, and working at his ranch in Danevang, Texas. Joe never met a stranger and would talk to anyone that would give him 2 minutes (or 30 minutes) of their time. Joe's passion was cooking for others, and everyone who ate his food always said he should have opened his own restaurant. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Patricia Ann Reck; daughter, Christine Gauger and husband Nathan of Austin; sons, Jeffrey Reck and wife Amy of San Antonio, Kenneth Reck and wife Alisha of Columbus; grandchildren, Kayla Reck, Colby Reck, Piper Reck, Nicholas Gauger, and Scout Reck; sisters, Theresa York and husband Edward, and Annie Mae Sanchez; brothers, Edwin Reck, Jr. and his wife Carol, David Reck and his wife Betty, Robert Reck and his wife Elaine, Stephen Reck, Johnny Reck, and Frank Reck, Sr. ; mother-in-law, Anita Drastata; and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in his death by his parents, Ludmilla (Lillian) Polasek Reck and Edwin Edward Reck, Sr. ; his father-in-law Frank W. Drastata; his brothers-in-law, Patrick Drastata and Gary Drastata; and sister-in-law, Venus Reck. Visitation will be Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. A parish prayer service and Knights of Columbus rosary will follow at 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be Friday, September 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with Fr. James Dvorak officiating. Visitation at Church will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Johns Catholic Cemetery, New Taiton, Texas. Joyce Lilie Dehmer, 88, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2023 in Columbus Texas. She was born on November 18, 1935 to Henry Lilie and Lillian (Holub) Lilie in Columbus, Texas. Joyce grew up in Alleyton and attended school in Columbus graduating in 1953. She married Philip V. Dehmer on August 28, 1954. They subsequently moved to Houston where they made their home and raised 2 children. After retiring, they moved back to their hometown of Columbus. Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus. Joyce loved baking, especially at Christmas, when she would gift her family with her delicious cookies, fudge, candy and fruit cakes. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her plants and flowers. Joyce truly cherished her friends and family and delighted in their visits and company. She was a big Texans fan and looked forward to watching the games on Sundays. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Donna Dehmer of Columbus; son, Philip V. Dehmer, Jr. and wife Nanette of Katy; grandchildren Christopher Dehmer and wife Michel of Katy, Cori Dehmer of Houston, Daniel Dehmer and wife Kelly of Katy, and Laura Maxey of Spring; great-grandchildren Michael Stephens, Cash Dehmer, Vivian Dehmer, Kennedi Keener, and Kiera Dehmer; great, great - grandchildren Aubriana and Olivia. Bobette "Bobbie" (Senf) Barten, a beautiful woman with a heart of gold, a smile to remember, and loved by many. On the morning of November 28, 2023, Bobette passed away after a brief battle with cancer at her home in Columbus, Texas. Bobette was 83 years old. Bobette was born at the Caney Valley Hospital in the town of Wharton in Wharton County, Texas at 3:44 A. M. on January 6, 1940. She was the first born child of her father, Robert Vineyard Senf, Sr. , and the second born child of her mother, Elizabeth (Matthews) Senf. Bobette lived and attended school in many Texas towns throughout her childhood including Orchard, Rosenberg, Damon, Orange, Boling, and Iago, because her father worked for an oil drilling company. Beginning in the 6th grade, Bobette attended school in Boling, Texas and graduated from Boling High School in 1958. Some of her childhood favorite pastimes were roller skating, watching Roy Rogers western movies, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a very likeable person and as her friends from her school days would say, "She was everyone's sweetheart. " She was awarded Homecoming Queen, Football Sweetheart, and Class Favorite her senior year in high school along with the DAR Good Citizen award. After her high school graduation, Bobette attended Wharton County Junior College where she earned an Associate of Arts business degree in 1960. She was also a 'Starlette' on the WCJC drill team and captain her sophomore year. After graduating, she moved to Houston, Texas, for her first job as a secretary for Texas Eastern Gas Transmission Corporation, followed by a second secretarial job for Dow Chemical. Bobette met her future husband, John Edwin Barten, who worked as a salesman at the time, while living in Houston through some mutual friends. They married six months later on August 3, 1963, at the New Gulf Country Club in New Gulf, Texas. They moved from Houston to John's childhood town of Columbus in Colorado County, Texas, in 1966, where she enjoyed life as a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Bobette was a very creative person. She enjoyed cooking and sewing throughout her life. Later in her forties, she began the hobby of making porcelain dolls from start to finish and dressed the dolls in the intricate clothing that she sewed. Bobette was a faithful Christian and was a member of the Katy church of Christ in Katy, Texas. She was baptized into Christ at the age of nine at the church of Christ in Damon, Texas. She taught children's Bible Sunday school classes at the Milam Street church of Christ when her children were young. Her strong faith inspired her five children and husband to be baptized into Christ and become members of the church of Christ. Her faith would sustain her after the difficult loss of her youngest son, Rhett, in June of 2004 and during the caring for her husband when he became ill until his death in 2010. Bobette, in her own words, would always say, "I've always tried to pattern my life after my sweet, kind-hearted, loving Christian mother, who taught me to trust in the Lord, be forgiving, and always look for the good in people. I felt like that was good advice. "Bobette was preceded in death by her husband, John Edwin Barten; son, Rhett Blayne Barten; brother, Robert Vineyard Senf, Jr. ; mother, Elizabeth (Matthews) Senf; and father, Robert Vineyard Senf, Sr. Bobette is survived by her children, Derek Shane Barten (wife Amber); Kari Delaine (Barten) Moeller (husband Dan); John Brandon Barten (wife Jennifer); Darcy Todd Barten (wife Morgan); grandchildren, McKenzie, Miranda, and Madalyn Moeller; Blayne Barten; Teddy, Charlie, and Lily Barten; and sister, Billie Jean Clendennen; sister, Elaine Rolf (husband L. J. ); sister, Jaquelyn "Jackie" Hodge; brother, Richard Senf; sister, Jeri Lynn Simons. A private family graveside service was held on November 29, 2023, at the Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus, Texas. The service was officiated by Jordan Moore, minister for the Katy church of Christ under the direction of Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas. Herbert E. Helmcamp, Jr. , was born on September 12, 1944, in Houston, Texas to parents Herbert and Beatrice Helmcamp. Most of his childhood memories were of going to his Grandpa Helmcamp's farm in Sedan; hunting rabbits, sitting with Grandpa on the porch or by the woodstove, visiting Oakland, camping and fishing on the Brazos River with his parents, older brother C. W. , Uncle Leon, Aunt Mary, and cousin Leonard Helmcamp. He graduated from St. Pius Catholic High School in Houston, Texas and became a cement mason Local Union No. 681. Through the cement masons, he met and made lots of friends including his lifetime best friend Carson Bonin. He began his career in Houston, helping to build some of the city's landmarks including the Astrodome. After leaving the city, and moving his family to Weimar, he and his brother-in-law Alvin Emmel and good friend Tex Ray Bonin started their own cement finishing company. He got to know a lot of the local people and rekindled childhood relationships. His second career as Colorado County Commissioner of Precinct 2 was also very rewarding to him, he loved all the local people those he knew and those he got to know. He had a great deal of support and cherished friendships in the County. He retired from the county but continued his cattle ranching. On December 22, 1964, he married his first love, Alvirder Emmel of Weimar, Texas. Together they raised two daughters, Virginia and Rosemary. They returned to Alvirder's home place in Weimar, in 1979 where they finished raising their children and enjoyed the country life. Herbie and Alvirder were avid hunters and fisherman. They loved God's creation traveling to the mountains in Colorado, New Mexico and Montana often for hunts, and summer family vacations, also to West Texas and the Texas Coast, mostly Port O'Connor wade fishing for trout and redfish. They both had a love for big bucks and stringers of trout. Herbie was fondly nicknamed "Herb" by his sons-in-law whom he fished and hunted with. Herbie spent his last days in his den filled with his mule deer trophies and family pictures. Herbie was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church of Weimar and supporter of St. Michael Catholic School and St. Pius Catholic Church. After the loss of Alvirder, Herbie met and married Betty Lou Hudec Vornsand on August 6, 2010, at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, Dubina. They each had lost spouses and God brought them together where they shared their love and companionship and new adventures, music, polka and waltz dancing, camping and hunting and traveling to Europe. Evening rides on the side by side with their dogs, and Herbie even took Betty coon hunting. Herbie is survived by his wife Betty Helmcamp; children Virginia and husband Bruce Hromadka and Rosemary and husband Gary Rosenauer; stepchildren James and wife Janet Purdy and Ann and husband Toby Barlow; grandchildren Jenny and husband Bryan Hendrix and Wyatt and wife Bridgette Rosenauer; step-grandchildren Austin, Reed and Emily Purdy, Jaxson and Colby Barlow; great grandchildren Audrey Rosenauer, Cade Rosenauer and Braxton Hendrix; brother C. W. and wife Ellen Helmcamp; sister-in-law Daria Emmel; brothers-in-law Emil "Buddy" and wife Kathy Hudec and Franklin and wife Therese Hudec; nieces, nephews and cousins; cousin Leonard Helmcamp and special friend Susie Kalson. He is preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Bea Helmcamp; wife Alvirder Emmel Helmcamp; brother-in-law Alvin Emmel and brother James Helmcamp. Ewald Joe Schertz, 86, of Frelsburg, Texas, passed away on November 20, 2023 at his home in Frelsburg. He was born on June 14, 1937 to Ben Schertz and Mary (Kubicek) Schertz in Frelsburg. On June 22, 1937 he was baptized. He attended Catholic School until the 8th grade. On February 22, 1974 he married Faye Annette Palm at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Ewald worked as a rancher all his life. He had other jobs like working at the feed store and raking hay for several people. He was a hunter and a fisherman and loved to be in between his cows. Throughout his life, he had several loyal dogs. Ewald enjoyed going to festivals and listening to the auction and music. He also enjoyed going to dances with his wife in their early years of marriage. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Ewald is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Faye Schertz; nieces and nephews Allen Schertz, Karen Janda, Patricia Willis, Robert Schertz, Carol Weishuhn, Bradley Girndt, Sharon Kubicek, Barbara Mach, Sandra Small, Anthony Schertz, Shirley Shupak, Gary Schertz, Corey Froebel, Todd Froebel, and Bradley Froebel; as well as numerous family members and friends. The Lord blessed James Byron Rhodes and Kasandra Alease Gordon with a beautiful and loving babygirl, and she was named Shante' Rhodes. Shante' was indeed a true "Daddy's Girl. " Shante' accepted Christ at an early age. She attended grade school in Eagle Lake, Texas and High School at Rice High School, graduating class of 2005. After completing high school, Shante' started to work at Wal-Mart in Columbus, Texas. She was a dedicated and faithful employee for 18 years. Shante' was always so happy and willing to help others. She was adored because she was so positive and fun to be around. Shante' had a love and a passion for spending time and enjoying her family and kids. The love she had transformed the lives of everyone she e countered. Shante' really enjoyed going to her Granny's on Sundays. Sadly, Shante' Rhodes passed on November 6, 2023. Joseph Lee Till, age 76, passed away on November 11, 2023. Joe was born to Leo and Elizabeth Till on February 6, 1947 in El Campo, TX. Joe grew up in Nada, TX and became a long-term resident of Weimar, TX for more than 50 years. He married his best friend, "Sissy" Mae (Jackson) Till on July 20, 1985. Joe & Sissy spent plenty of nights at the Western Club in Altair, listening to some "oldies," two stepping, and shooting pool. Joe never met a stranger, he would strike up a conversation with anyone he met, chatting about the latest news in Weimar. Joe was the BBQ master; and he was proud to be a part of "The Crazy Cookers" cook off team, bragging about their winnings. In his later years, Joe could be found in his garden, picking pecans, mowing the lawn, or taking a break in the garage, listening to his favorite country music and sipping on a cold Busch Light. Joe could fix nearly anything, he was employed at Rosenhauer's Auto Repair Shop and then worked for Colorado County Precinct 2 for more than 20 years, where he maintained and operated heavy machinery to care for the community he loved. Recently, Joe spent time at Schulenburg Regency Nursing Home where he enjoyed "working" with the nurses and therapy; he focused on keeping everyone "in line", specifically his favorite nurse and beloved granddaughter, Krissi. Joe was a sweet, kind hearted man, and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
