Maxine J. Wilson, age 87, of Indian River died on Wednesday February 14, 2024 at Medilodge of Gaylord. Born in Port Huron on August 19, 1936, she was the daughter of William and Dorothy (Dell) LaVere. She married Dick Wilson in Port Huron on April 10, 1959 and they made their home in Indian River. A homemaker, wife, and mother, Maxine also worked as a custodian at Inland Lakes Schools for 16 years until her retirement in 1991.Maxine is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Dick Wilson, of Indian River; daughter, Jean (Dean) Thompson of Indian River; son, Cameron (JoAnn) Waggoner of Tennessee; son-in-law, Jim Elmhirst of Shelby Township; as well as seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She also leaves her brother, Bill (Flo) LaVere of Flushing; sister-in-law, Millie LaVere of Port Huron; and nieces and nephews.Maxine was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Elmhirst; sister, Gladys (Jim) Sawyer; brother, Don LaVere; and an infant brother.In accordance with Maxine’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Maxine’s final resting place will be at Walker Township Cemetery in Afton. Cheryl Lee (Lewis) Braswell, 78 of formerly Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on January 19, 2024 at Aspen Ridge in Gaylord, Michigan. Daughter of Roy C. Lewis, Sr. and Sibyl (Hunnings) Lewis, Cheryl was born on September 5, 1945 in Morehead City, where she grew up and attended Morehead City High School. She married Richard Braswell on August 17, 2014 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She worked as a licensing agent for the Marine Fisheries in North Carolina. Chery was an artist at heart. She was an interior designer, a live stage actress, sketch artist, painter, loved singing and could a rug shagging on the dance floor. Cheryl was a member of the Ya Ya Sisterhood Club. She is survived by her husband Richard Braswell; her daughters Laura J. Hendricks, Jeanne L. Young, and Jessica L. Wolf; her brother Roy C. Lewis, Jr.; her grandchildren, Cory K. Godsey and his wife Lauren R. Godsey, Joshua A. Godsey; and her great-grandchildren, Tory L. Godsey, Noah P. Godsey, Faith M. Godsey, and Odin Hunter Godsey. Those wishing to make a charitable donation in Cheryl’s memory are asked to consider the Alzheimer’s Association or an animal charity of your choice. A private family service will be at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey, Michigan. Rosalyn Evans, age 71, of Gaylord, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024. Loving wife of John Evans. Beloved aunt of Rachelle (Ivan) and great-aunt of many great-nieces and nephews. Rosalyn was a fenominal wife and loved by all who met her. She will be greatly missed by all by who survive her. Final committal prayers and burial for Rosalyn will be held Wednesday, January 24th, 2024 at 12pm at Clinton Grove Cemetery, 21189 Cass Ave, Clinton Twp 48036. Everyone will be meeting just inside the gates of the cemetery behind the hearse and then when everyone has gathered we will go over to the grave together.

Allan James LaCoursier, 85, of Indian River passed away January 7, 2024 at Aspen Ridge Retirement Village in Gaylord, MI. Allan was born in Hermansville, MI, the son of Delore and Victoria LaCoursier. His family moved to the Detroit area when Allan was 12 years old. Allan married Betty, the love of his life, in 1974. They made their home in Southfield, Mi and when Allan retired, they moved to Indian River MI. Allan was the owner of Eagle Excavating in Southfield, MI for several years. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union. He was also a member and past president of the Jokers Motorcycle Club in Northville, MI. Allan was an avid hunter at his camp in Hermansville,, MI. where he enjoyed spending time with his family. When Betty and Allan moved to Indian River, he worked at the Cross in the Woods Catholic Shrine for several years doing various excavating and tree removal services. They became parishioners of the Shrine and attended church regularly, making many friends. Allan is survived by Betty, his wife of 49 years, sister Karen Howd, son Todd, daughters Kimberly Reid, Michelle (Bob) Osborn and daughter-in-law Rose. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Richard (Abby), Jamie (Luke), Jessica, Michael and Daniel and 7 great-grandchildren: Zachary, Ember, Autumn, Kendra, Hailey, Atlas and Paxton. Karl Ray Polenz

Mr. Karl Ray Polenz of Lewiston, Michigan died peacefully at the age of 82 at Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord on December 31, 2023. He was born to the late Carl and Mildred (Boltz) Polenz in Wayne, Michigan on March 14, 1941. He has resided in Lewiston most all his life, except for the two years he resided in Florida. Karl was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a past member of the Lewiston Moose and the Lewiston Fun Ones. He enjoyed gardening and took pride in the tomatoes and pumpkins he would grow. He liked hunting, fishing, trips to the casino, and time out on his boat on West Twin Lake. More importantly, he loved checking in on his granddaughters and spending time with them. Karl is and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his son, Mark Polenz of Harrison Township; granddaughters, Chelsea (Jason) Fellwock of Brighton; Jackie Polenz of Dallas, Texas; great-grandson, Henry; and brother, James (Cheryl) Polenz of Gregory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mildred Polenz; brother, Earl; and son, Barry. Funeral services for Karl will take place at 11:30 AM on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pastor Chuck Hoffman officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service with a luncheon following.
