Richard Eugene Carnal, 95, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023. Richard was born December 25, 1927, in Dayton to Sayle and Mary Carnal. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a radio technician on the USS Yorktown in the Philippines during World War II. Following his military service, Richard obtained an Associate Degree in Dentistry from The Ohio State University. After initially embarking on a career in dentistry, Richard ultimately found his calling in the banking industry. He joined the staff of Winters Bank in downtown Dayton and through dedication and hard work, Richard rose to the position of banking officer, eventually becoming the Vice President of First National Bank in Fairborn. He was highly respected within the industry and was known for his integrity and commitment to his work. In addition to his professional achievements, Richard actively contributed to his community. He served as a trustee on the Greene County Library Board and held memberships in St. John’s Lodge #13 F&AM and AASR Valley of Dayton. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion in Fairborn and a proud founding member of the Huffman Prairie League. Richard was a devoted member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church and later Peace Lutheran Church where he found solace and fellowship. He enjoyed the time spent with his family and friends, creating cherished memories that will be held dear forever. Richard is survived by his brother Thomas Elmore Carnell and wife Heritage of Springfield, Virginia; son J. Michael Carnal and his wife Brenda of Centerville, Ohio; son Richard A. Carnal of Sausalito, California; grandchildren Ashley Graham and her husband Ryan of Brambleton, Virginia and Chase Carnal of Cleveland, Ohio; great grandchildren Angela, Kaden, and Liam Graham; and niece Rhonda Carnal of Kettering, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Laura Jean Carnal as well as his sister Doris Mae Carnal and brothers Joseph Clement Carnal and Jerry Sayle Carnal. A private family service will take place at a later date. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Bethany Lutheran Village Vista Place and Bethany Rehabilitation Center for their friendship and compassionate care. Memorial contributions may be made to your local American Legion post honoring Richard’s memory and service to his country. After a courageous battle against cancer, Cecelia passed away at the age of 82 in the comforting embrace of Kettering Medical Center. She leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy that will forever echo in the hearts of those she touched. Born on November 11th, 1941, in Dayton, Ohio, Cecelia was the beloved daughter of Frank and Josephine Cooper. She attended Julienne High School, followed by careers at Caroll high school and Kodak. Kodak is where she dedicated over four decades of her life. Her strong work ethic and dedication to her craft were evident in every task she undertook. Her commitment to excellence and unwavering loyalty impacted all those around her. While success in her profession brought her fulfillment, Cecelia's true happiness emanated from her cherished moments spent with family and friends. She lived a modest life, finding solace in the simplest joys. In her free time, she enjoyed delightful dinners with her circle of friends, sharing laughter and creating lasting memories. Devoting herself to her faith, Cecelia found immense comfort and guidance within her church community. Her devotion to spiritual growth served as a guiding light in her life, as she always sought to serve and lend a helping hand to those in need. Cecelia held a special place in her heart for her adoring grandkids, Tyler and Ryan, who filled her days with immeasurable joy. Additionally, her "great grand dog," Easton, brought a unique and playful energy into her life. Their love and presence were a constant reminder of the beauty and happiness that family brings. With heavy hearts, Cecelia now joins her parents, Frank and Josephine Cooper, her brother Gerald "Tubby" Cooper, and her dear sister Martha Weinert in eternal peace. Annabelle Johansen, lovingly known as Belle, peacefully passed away on November 29th, 2023 at Miami Valley Hospital. She was a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother with a heart full of compassion and a spirit that touched the lives of all who knew her. Born on August 30th, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York, Belle was the daughter of Ignazio and Antonina Mosca. She attended Richmond Hill High School in Queens before pursuing her passion for business administration at New York University, where she earned an Associates degree. It was during her time at NYU that she met the love of her life, Robert Johansen, and they embarked on a lifelong journey together. Belle and Robert exchanged vows soon after their graduation and settled in Kings Park, Long Island. They were blessed with three wonderful sons, Robert, Eric, and Mark. The family had the opportunity to live in various places and countries, including the Dominican Republic, Iran, and Greece. However, Belle's unwavering devotion to her sons led them to eventually return to the United States, where she lovingly cared for them while they pursued their college education. Belle's career in the travel industry flourished as she joined World Travel and worked her way up to become a successful travel agent. In 1990, her dedication and hard work paid off when Robert purchased the company, and they managed it together. They sold the company in 1997, fulfilling their dream of retiring to a tranquil beach in Florida. Her love for travel was not restricted to her professional life. Belle had an insatiable wanderlust and enjoyed exploring new places with her beloved husband. They shared a passion for hosting parties and entertaining friends, creating cherished memories for all who were fortunate enough to be invited. Faith played a significant role in Belle's life, and she was a devoted Catholic. She found solace and strength in her spiritual beliefs, nurturing her relationship with God and finding comfort in the church community. Belle's timeless love and vibrant presence will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ignazio and Antonina Mosca, her dear brother Michael Mosca, and her beloved husband, Robert S. Johansen. She leaves behind a lasting legacy in her sons, Robert and his wife Omaira, Eric and his wife Marie, and Mark and his wife Gail. Tina Marie Gillespie, a compassionate soul who touched the lives of many, peacefully passed away on November 17th, 2023, at the age of fifty-six. She was born on October 13th, 1967, in the serene town of Greenville, Ohio. Tina's journey began at Versailles High School, where she graduated in 1986. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Wright State University, where she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Business and Marketing in 1990. Driven by her dedication to excellence, Tina returned to Wright State to complete her Master's degree in Supply Chain and Logistical Analysis in 2012, solidifying her expertise in her chosen field. Throughout her professional career, Tina showcased her talent as a Supply Chain Analyst in various industries. From her early days at Woolworth, the esteemed department store, to her time at Gibson Greetings, the world's second-largest greeting card company, Tina's analytical skills and dedication impressed colleagues and peers alike. She later transitioned to Honda, where she spent many years contributing to the automotive industry. Tina's faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a long-standing member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Her devotion to her beliefs reflected in her active participation in parish activities and her unwavering commitment to her church community. In 1987, Tina met the love of her life, Eric Gillespie, at 1st Stop dance hall. Their love story blossomed over the years, and on June 17th, 1995, they joyously tied the knot. Tina immersed herself in the role of a devoted wife and nurturing mother to their two children, Aaron and Marcus. Her passion for creating a loving home resonated through her tireless efforts in maintaining a warm and welcoming environment for her family. Tina was a woman of great compassion, always lending a helping hand to those in need. She served as the secretary for the Stebbins High School Marching Band Boosters and devoted countless hours to the St. Peter's food pantry. As part of the Lunch Buddies program at Honda, she mentored high school students from the Troy area, providing guidance and support. In her rare moments of leisure, Tina enjoyed spending time with her beloved Girls Night Out group, immersing herself in the joys of music and dancing. Tina was fun loving person and always known for being part of the good time crowd. When she walked through the door you always knew your day was going to be better just because she was there. She possessed a keen eye for decorating and ensured that her home was always adorned beautifully for holidays, creating cherished memories with her family. Tina's love for reality TV series was unparalleled; she found solace in the drama and excitement they offered. Tina is survived by her loving husband, Eric Gillespie, her parents, Virgil and Barbara Frantz, her brother Brent (Tricia) Frantz, her cherished children, Aaron and Marcus, and her sisters-in-law, Joyce (Lee) Whitaker, Michelle Gillespie, and Julie Gillespie. She also leaves behind her adored nieces and nephews, Lauren and Jordan Whitaker, and Aiden and Dylan Frantz. Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, November 24th, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Routsong Funeral Kettering Chapel (2100 E Stroop Rd, Kettering). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 25th, 2023, at 10:30 am at Saint Peter Catholic Church (6161 Chambersburg Rd, Huber Heights). Following the ceremony, Tina will be laid to rest in a solemn burial at the Saint Valbert Cemetery in Versailles, Ohio. Even in death Tina was still able to touch the lives of many and helped by being an organ doner. In Loving Memory of Robert Vincent Rotterman, Jr. August 23, 1929 - November 14, 2023It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Vincent Rotterman, Jr. , a devoted husband and father, accomplished professional, and beloved member of the community. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 23, 1929, Robert departed peacefully on November 14, 2023, at the age of 94. Robert, commonly known as Bob, was a man of determination. He graduated from Rocky River High School in Rocky River, Ohio, and later earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Dayton. And, then a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Dayton as well. Bob dedicated over three decades of his professional career as the Director of Facilities and Business Manager at the University of Dayton. His contributed significantly to the university's expansion projects, including the construction of the arena, Bombeck Family Learning Center, and Keller Hall, among others. Prior to his tenure at the university, Bob worked as an accountant with Ernst & Young. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bob proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Europe. Outside of his professional life, Bob found joy in his numerous memberships and hobbies. He and his wife, Mary, held a strong faith as active members of The Church of the Incarnation. Volunteering was a cornerstone of his retirement, as he generously dedicated his time to St. Vincent de Paul, Catholic Social Services Food Pantry, provided respite for Alzheimer caregivers, drove those in need to medical appointments, and volunteered at the University of Dayton Heritage Center. Bob's vibrant spirit was complemented by his sense of humor and quick wit. He had an uncanny ability to bring laughter to those around him. Bob and Mary had a wonderful group of friends. They traveled, laughed, and played cards together throughout the years. Bob was preceded in death by his wife and college sweetheart of 60 years, Mary (Ens) Rotterman and his parents, Robert and Betty Rotterman. He is survived by his daughters, Anne (Dan) Davis of Oakwood, Peggy (Jim) Geyer of Beavercreek and Kathy (Frank) O’Bryant of Springboro. He also leaves behind his brother, David (Barbara) Rotterman, and cherished grandchildren: Stephen Davis, Claire (Kyle) Kadrovach, AJ Geyer, Ashley O’Bryant, Robert O’Bryant, Rachel O’Bryant, and Emily O’Bryant. Additionally, he leaves behind several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends whose lives he touched deeply. A funeral mass will be held for Bob at the Church of the Incarnation on Monday, December 11, 2023. Friends and family may gather for a visitation (10:00 a. m. – 11:00 a. m. ) one hour prior to the mass (11:00 a. m. ) The interment will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery. On November 8, 1940 Stanley Richard Olszewski was born to Stanley and Irene Olszewski. He was their third child of five and their first son. On November 8, 2023 Stanley Richard Olszewski passed away peacefully in his sleep. Stanley was married to Molly L. Loose for 60 years until her death in 2020. Together they raised 4 children: Barbara Zepernick (Richard), Richard Olszewski, Diane Affourtit (Michael), and Todd Olszewski. Stanley was a good husband, brother, friend and a caring father. He was a salt of the earth man. His children are blessed to hold many precious childhood memories of his shenanigans: Christmas shopping at the Rike’s Tikes shop was never complete until we rode the elevator and upon exiting pushed every button making a mad dash for the doors before ‘they’ came after us, trips to the Englewood Dam with his beloved dog, Reuben, camping in the backyard always ended with us making a night trip to Dunkin’ Donuts. He would dance with us to Christmas music or the Beatles, and above all he was always available to help us in whatever way he could. He leaves behind his above-mentioned children, 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; his sister, Donna Boldrick; sister, Carol Campbell (Bill); youngest sister, Linda Stephens (Greg); and brother, Chuck Olszewski (Kathy), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, brother and sisters-in-laws, and the best golfing buddies a golf junkie could ask for. Visitation will be held at David’s Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, Monday, November 20. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11:00AM. WERNER, Robert Benton passed away at the age of 82 to be with the Lord, and with his identical twin brother, Charles Allen Werner, who died in 1961 at the age of 19. He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Margaret Werner, grandparents Elsie and John Werner, grandparents Bessie and Wilber Mathews, his aunt Mary and uncle Doug MacCash, his uncle Robert and aunt, Laila Werner, his uncle Charles Mathews, his aunt, Jane Mathews, and his aunt, Jan Mathews. He was also preceded in death by his special niece, Jean Ann and his good friend, Richard Robey. He is survived by his son, Matthew Werner and his daughter, Katherine Porter and her husband, Brett. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Weiffenbach, and her children Robert and Allan and their respective families. He is additionally survived by his cousin, David Werner and wife, Susan, of Florida Roberta Ann Werner of Tennessee, and Roberta's sister, Lynn Pryor of Michigan. Finally, he is also survived by his special friend, Nancy Farkas. Robert and his brother were born in Miami Valley Hospital on February 23, 1941 and delivered by his great uncle Dr. Edward Werner. Robert was educated in the Oakwood School System where he graduated from Oakwood High School in 1959. He then went on to graduate from Otterbein College in 1963 with a degree in business and sociology. He furthered his education at the University of Dayton and at the General Motors Institute. He was employed by the Delco Moraine division of General Motors for over 31 years in the sales and marketing department. He designed the 50 Year medal which was given to all Delco Moraine employees in 1973. He was married for 36 years to Mary. In 1967, he was blessed with a beautiful daughter Katherine Elizabeth Werner (Porter) and in 1970, with a fine son, Matthew David Werner. Robert valued the friendship of his many close friends and neighbors, who knew they could always count on him. Robert had a strong focus on family values and was a great family man. He was the best Dad ever and will be missed. Robert showed kindness and generosity to many, especially those in need. He had a quick wit, was personable, and liked to make puns whenever possible. As a young person, Robert became a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, and upon the closing of Otterbein in 2008, has since been a member of Normandy United Methodist Church. Robert had many hobbies and interests. He was fond of all animals, but particularly his son's dog, Apollo. One of his main interests was his award-winning 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham which appeared on television, car magazines, a poster, a calendar and books. He enjoyed sharing his car with the public at many concours car shows all over the country with the help of restorers Bob Morris and Bob Kreitzer. He also had a strong interest in American History and in particular, Dayton history, and he was a member of Carillon Historical Park for many years. He was a member of the Cadillac LaSalle Club and a founding sponsor of its museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan. He supported the Centerville Historical Society with many special exhibits and set up a display of GM items at Carillon Park to honor his father, Calvin. He also studied the history of the Wright Brothers and has a collection of items related to them. Another facet of his interests was his passion for western art and history. He enjoyed many trips to the west and to the National Parks. Robert also had a collection of autographs of famous people and presidential political memorabilia. He was fortunate to meet John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldren, Paul Tibbits and Charles F. Kettering. He will be interned at Woodland Cemetery where you can read his poem, The Double Image, carved in stone, which was written to honor his identical twin brother and our Lord. "I have learned in life the importance of loving our Lord, our family and friends, and to love yourself. When you leave this world after having made it a better place, your life will not have been lived in vain.
