Joseph R. Lydon, 73, of Camillus, passed away Sunday at Upstate University Hospital. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was a graduate of Bishop Ludden Junior-Senior High School. Joseph was employed by American Steel & Aluminum, LLC, for over 40 years before retiring in 2020. Joe was a U. S. Navy veteran and member of the American Legion Tipperary Hill Post #1361, Konosioni Masonic Lodge #950, and Camillus Elks Lodge #31. An avid golfer, he was also a football fan of the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills. Above all, he loved Foster’s Fridays and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Evelyn; brother, Michael; and sister, Linda. Surviving are his loving wife and best friend of 43 years, Judy; daughters, Casey of Minoa and Laura (Daniel Mooney) Lydon of Liverpool; son, Chris of Camillus; grandchildren, Calen and Mason Monahan, and Madison and Ryan Lydon; sister, Shirley (Joseph) Katz of Groveland, FL; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 14 at 1 p. m. in St. Marianne Cope Parish-Our Lady of Peace Curch, 203 Halcomb St. , Syracuse. A celebration of Joe’s life will take place following the funeral Mass at Coleman’s Authentic Irish Pub, 100 S. Lowel Ave. , Syracuse. All are welcome to attend. Roseanne Hoey Corrigan, 93, of Camillus, passed away on Saturday, after a brief illness, with her loving family by her side. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of Mary and James Hoey. Roseanne received her BSN from Duquesne University and was a member of the Alpha Tau Delta National Fraternity for Professional Nurses. Employed at St. Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, she was also president of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh Nurse’s League. After her marriage to Owen Corrigan, Roseanne moved to New York City where she taught nursing at St. Vincent’s Hospital. She later graduated from St. John’s University with an MSN in nursing. In 1961, Roseanne and Owen moved to the Syracuse area and soon after settled in Camillus. A communicant of St. Joseph's Church, she taught religious education and was a Perpetual Adoration adorer. Roseanne worked as a nurse for the West Genesee Central School District, Castle Rest Nursing Home, and retired from St. Camillus Nursing and Rehabilitation Center as a staff educator. After retirement, she worked at an educational testing company, Prometric, Inc. , until the age of 90. She was also an active board member of It Could Happen to You, a non-profit dedicated to justice reform. Roseanne was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Owen; parents, James and Mary Hoey; sister, Mary Elizabeth Walsh; and brother, James Hoey. Surviving are her daughters, Therese (William) Corrigan-Bastuk and Patricia (Paul) Syrocki; grandson, Garrett (Mandie Hewitt) Bastuk; granddaughters, Lola, Kenna, and Hailey; goddaughter, Maribeth Walsh; sister-in-law, Rosemary Hoey; and several nieces and nephews. Roseanne wanted to acknowledge the kindness of friends and neighbors, Pat and Terri Ashmore, Bernie Bondoni, the McGrath Family, Dolores Sarkis, Tim Suppes, Virginia Tedesco, Sylvia Uczen, Shane Ventura, Mary Lou Weinberger, and Charlotte Wos. Roseanne’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Petrie and the staff at Crouse Hospital for their loving care. Roseanne was a strong, loving, and devoted mother who instilled the importance of faith in her children's and grandchildren’s lives. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Marilyn Marcy, a devoted wife, loving mother, and dedicated teacher, passed away Sunday at home. Born on January 25, 1936, in Buffalo, she filled her life with compassion, kindness, and a genuine love for those around her. Marilyn pursued a bachelor's degree at SUNY Cortland, and after having three sons, embarked on a fulfilling career as a first-grade teacher at Vernon Elementary School. She developed a unique combined classroom by partnering with a second-grade teacher, Drinda Adams. One of Marilyn's enduring passions was literacy. Because of her interest and expertise, IBM gave her the opportunity to bring a new school learning program called "Writing to Read" to schools throughout the country. After retiring, Marilyn became a mentor for student teachers at SUNY Cortland, sharing her knowledge and experience with aspiring educators. She also served as a trustee at the Fairmount Community Library, leading a summer reading program for children. Her passion for reading was infectious, inspiring children to develop an enduring love for books. Marilyn’s talents went far beyond teaching. She was exceptionally skilled at knitting, drawing, china painting, and baking delectable apple pies and Christmas cookies. Her annual Christmas letter was eagerly anticipated by friends and family. She also enjoyed playing bridge, mahjong, and croquet at West Hill Golf Course. Marilyn’s devotion to family was evident in her love for spending time with her grandchildren, creating cherished memories at the Sunday night dinners at Grammy's. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Marie Lewis. Surviving are her loving husband of 65 years, Gene; three adored sons, Darrell (Christina Essig) Marcy, Duane (Patti) Marcy, and Douglas Marcy; and three cherished grandchildren, Phelan Marcy, Max Marcy, and Katie Marcy. Gerald "Jerry" Bassett, 88, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at Bishop Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. Born in the tight-knit community of Cadyville, Jerry's journey through life led him from the picturesque landscapes of Saranac Lake to his cherished home in the Syracuse area, where he put down roots in 1971. A proud graduate of Saranac Lake High School, Jerry also wore the badge of a U. S. Army veteran with honor. For over six remarkable decades, he contributed his skills and dedication as a crane operator for the Operating Engineers Local 545. His commitment to his craft made him a respected and integral part of the team. Jerry's faith was steadfast, as he was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a devoted member of the Jeepster Club. Throughout his illustrious career, he remained an active and dedicated lifelong member of the Operating Engineers Local 545, leaving an indelible mark on the profession he loved. Beyond the cranes and steel, Jerry's heart belonged to his family. He found immense joy in the company of his grandchildren, and the love he shared with them was evident in every smile and shared moment. Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth, in 2000; son, Victor Wenner; parents; sisters, Jean and Betty; and brother, Frank. Mary R. Rao, 86, a beloved lifetime member of the Syracuse community, passed away peacefully on Sunday at Upstate Community Hospital. Mary found joy in cooking, earning her the title of chef extraordinaire. Beyond the kitchen, she showcased her remarkable talent for reupholstering, transforming the ordinary into extraordinary works of art. With her self-taught expertise in home improvement, Mary continuously amazed those fortunate enough to witness her projects unfold. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, providing an essential service for those in need. Additionally, Mary was an esteemed member of the Camillus Senior Center. In her leisure time, she found great pleasure in visiting the Turning Stone Casino with her friends. However, Mary’s greatest joy came from spending cherished moments with her family, especially her adored grandchildren. She will be forever remembered as a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Vincent; first son, Michael; parents, Robert and Mary White; sister, Anita Armstrong; and brother, Charles White. Michael Edward Kessler, 69, of Camillus, passed away Monday, peacefully at home after a year-long battle with cancer. He was a graduate of Most Holy Rosary High School and the Central New York Police Academy. Upon completing his education, he pursued his passion for justice by joining the Syracuse Police Department. In 1975, Mike's commitment to public service was recognized as he became the youngest among the 500 sworn-in officers. Throughout his career, he ascended to the rank of detective and was highly regarded for his exemplary service. His unwavering dedication earned him numerous commendations, including the prestigious Medal of Valor. Following his retirement in 2001, Mike embarked on a new chapter of his life, dedicating the next 15 years to Constellation Energy. An avid golfer, he was an SU football season ticket holder and a lifelong Red Sox fan. Additionally, he took immense pride in caring for his family and home, often seen meticulously manicuring his lawn or giving his car a sparkling shine. Mike was predeceased by his father and stepmother, Warren and Janet Kessler; mother and stepfather, Eileen and Robert Vallee; brother, William; brother-in-law, David Maley; sister-in-law, Deborah Massey; and his beloved bulldog and only son, Earl Theodore Kessler. Surviving are his wife, high school sweetheart and best friend of 51 years, the former Catherine Ennis; daughters, Kerrie (Sean) Coakley, Michelle Starowicz, and Katie (Chris) Becktoft; precious grandchildren, Jack and Brynn Coakley, Michael, Stella and Charlotte Starowicz, and Skylar Becktoft; grand dogs, Alex, Rosie, and Hudson; sisters, Cynthia Kessler Fairbank, Christine Vallee, and Bobbie (Daniel) Klein; and brother, Timothy (Carolyn) Vallee. He also leaves behind a big Irish family, several wonderful in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Our family has been humbled by the outpouring of love and support over the past year from our lifelong friends, neighbors, and coworkers. There are no words to express our gratitude. We are at peace knowing Mike is reunited with his brother, Billy, whom he's missed dearly for 52 years and is up in Heaven sharing a cold one with his father-in-law, Bill, and Uncle John. "Linda (Balduzzi) Gomes, of Camillus, NY, passed away peacefully November 18, 2023. Born in Solvay, NY to the late Clement and Maria (Santos) Balduzzi, she graduated from Solvay High School and got her Bachelor's degree from Columbia University. She worked in administration at the Syracuse VA Hospital where she retired after 41 years. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially at her camp in Thendara, NY. Her favorite pastimes were playing slots at the casino and cards at the camp. It reminded her of many good times with her parents. She carried on the traditions of making frog legs and roasted chicken over the old stove while her husband mastered the polenta over an open campfire. The woods were always heaven on earth to her and she will forever be a part of her favorite place. She was an avid traveler and had a zest for life. Some of her favorite places to travel were Brazil, Italy, and Florida. She defied medical expectations and was the strongest woman. Despite chemotherapy, she went zip lining on a recent cruise and had a blast. She was spontaneous and always up for the next adventure, even when it was last minute. She was a kind and generous person who was always there for her family. She will be missed dearly. David was a cherished member of the Westvale Golf Club, where his passion for the sport and warm camaraderie enriched the lives of his fellow club members. His friendly demeanor and love for the game created lasting bonds that extended beyond the golf course, defining him as a true friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Beyond the golf greens, David was a dedicated coach for the St. Joseph's Church CYO JV basketball team, where he imparted not only his knowledge of the game but also valuable life lessons to his players. His coaching went beyond the court, instilling in his athletes the values of teamwork, perseverance, and integrity. David's impact on the young athletes extended to the baseball field as well, where he selflessly volunteered his time to coach for the West Genesee Athletics Club’s baseball program, leaving an indelible mark on the community's sporting spirit. David Nicholas Kaminski will be remembered not only for his athletic prowess and coaching acumen but also for his kindness, generosity, and the genuine care he showed for everyone around him. Susan J. Ingersoll, 76, of Camillus, passed away Thursday at home. Born in Schenectady on July 24, 1947, she was the daughter of the late John and Beatrice Higgins. Susan graduated from Linton High School in Schenectady and SUNY Oswego. She lived in the Camillus area since 1975 and retired in 2005 after 35 years with Sysco Food Services. Outside of her career, Susan found fulfillment in contributing to her community by volunteering at Maxwell Memorial Library, enriching the lives of countless individuals through her love of literature. An avid reader, she was a member of the Between the Lines Book Club and relished the opportunity to engage in lively discussions about literary works. Additionally, Susan selflessly served her community by working with the Board of Elections for five years as an election inspector. She treasured her time spent traveling, discovering new places, and embracing different cultures. Susan’s sharp mind enjoyed the challenge of puzzles, and she had a keen eye for antiquing, always discovering hidden treasures. Yet, her greatest joy came from the companionship of her beloved pets, who provided unwavering love and comfort throughout her life. ngtime volunteer with Maxwell Memorial Library, she was also a member of the Between the Lines Book Club and worked five years with the Board of Elections as an election inspector.
