GLADYS TAWSE (Hollingsworth) Septemb11, 1926 - November 29, 2023 We are grateful to be the family of our much loved, Mom, Gramma, Great-Gramma, sister and aunt, Gladys Marion Tawse, who died quietly on November 29, 2023, at the age of 97. Gladys was born to Jenny (Burke) and Percy Hollingsworth on the family farm in Doonside, Saskatchewan, the 3rd of 4 children. Gladys, her brother, Robbie, and sisters, Jean and Evelyn, and their father, were all very musical and travelled the area around Doonside and Fairlight, SK. , providing music for community events. She moved to Brandon, MB, where she met her future husband, Russ, with whom she had 2 children; Linda McKellar (Tawse), and Bruce. During their marriage the family moved several times and Gladys always ensured the smooth transition to each new home with calmness and humour. During their retirement years, Gladys and Russ lived in White Rock, BC, however, a few years after Russ' death, Gladys moved back to Winnipeg, where she was involved with many activities with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout her long life Gladys wore many hats: Brownie leader, nurses' aide, proprietor of a hunting and fishing lodge in The Pas, MB. , and, definitely not least, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She had many adventures which included trips to every continent except Antarctica - only a cancelled trip prevented her from fulfilling her dream. On her 75th birthday she went skydiving, followed closely by white water rafting and hot air ballooning. Always physically and mentally active, her diminished mobility and independence over the past several years was a blow to her, but one she bore with her usual pragmatism and sunny outlook. In recent years she has lived with the challenges of Lewy Body dementia. When she was no longer able to live independently, she moved to Dakota House where she was very happy for over 4 years. Her frequent comment was, "I'm so lucky to be here where everyone watches out for each other". Gladys moved to Vista Park Lodge in 2018 where she was very content. Our family is grateful to all the staff for the kindness, care and compassion they have shown to our mom, and to us. Gladys was pre-deceased by her husband, Russ, her parents, Jenny and Percy Hollingsworth, her brother, Robert, sister, Evelyn Lettley, niece, Lois Ross (Lettley), Russ' parents, Alec and Elizabeth Tawse, and brothers-in-law, Tom Tawse, Fred Lettley and Bill Dunton. Gladys is fondly remembered by her family: daughter, Linda McKellar, son, Bruce Tawse and his wife, Caryll, grandchildren, Megan Vankoughnett (Dave), Nadeen Bennett (Shawn), Daren McKellar (Lise), and Gillian Howie (Vince). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Braden (Kelsey), Ashten (KC), Reid (Camryn), Vaughn, Celeste (Owen), Chandler (Lexi), Noah, Kaleb, Emily and Liam, great, great-grandchildren, Blayke and Blaire, as well as sister, Jean Dunton, nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a family gathering will be held to honour our mom's amazing life. Should anyone wish, donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba would be appropriate. "I hope that I see the world as you did 'cause I know, A life with love is a life that's been lived" (Ed Sheeran) Thank you, mom, we will miss you.Show more

He will also live on in the memory of many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Lillian Sigmundson. Dad was a born entrepreneur who started out working at his father's construction company. Eventually Dan and his brother Gisli took over and expanded the company. Dan's children enjoy fond memories of getting to ride in the construction vehicles and visiting "the pits. " It was during this time he was very active in his community serving on the Town Council and enjoying many years as a member of the Kinsmen Club of Gimli. Dan's true passion in life was aviation, getting his pilot license at the age of 16. He eventually started a flight training school called Interlake Aviation, which at its peak was the third largest flying school in the world. Pilots from across the globe would come to Gimli to train at Dad's school. This endeavour allowed him to explore many countries and experience incredible adventures - the kind you see in movies. He was the true patriarch of our family, embodying the patience, kindness and nurturing love that we should all strive for. He was incredibly reliable, caring and had an amazing sense of humour - still cracking jokes in his final days. Dan was so deeply loved and we miss him so much. Fly high Dad. Find peace and serenity among the clouds. Thank you for giving us wings. A special thank you to the Gimli Hospital staff for taking such good care of our dad. The family will hold a private Celebration of Life on December 10th, 2023.Show more

Shirley and John, along with their 3 little children, arrived in Canada on April 28, 1975. They made their home in Kenora, ON. for 30 years and on retirement in 2005 they moved to Winnipeg MB. Shirley loved cooking, gardening, music, fishing and her famous dinners with friends where she would cook up a storm. She loved to knit and sew and worked for several years at the Fashion Fabrics in Kenora after her children were older. Back in Nepal, she was a teacher at the Adarsh Vidya Mandir School before leaving for Canada. Shirley's greatest love was for her family, John her loving husband of 56 years, her three Children and her two granddaughters. Back in 2009 Shirley had a successful kidney transplant with her daughter Jenn being the donor. During the past few years Shirley lived with chronic back pain which slowed her down physically. She survived breast cancer back in 2012, however, it suddenly re-emerged and took us all by surprise. Through all her ups and downs with her health, the strength of how she faced the challenges were heroic. Never once complaining or feeling sorry for herself as she continued to always make sure that others were being taken care of first. In keeping with Shirley's wishes, cremation has taken place. Geraldine Kjartanson

Geraldine Kjartanson

Age - 53

November 25, 2023

GERALDINE (GERRY) MARY KJARTANSON (nee RYAN) Peacefully, in early morning hours of November 15, 2023, Gerry passed away with her son Mike at her bedside in the Fred Douglas Lodge where she had resided since June 7, 2023. Gerry is survived by her two sons: Terry (Kay) and Mike; five granddaughters: Katie Burt, Melanie Farrage (Basil), Holly Kjartanson, Tia Kjartanson (Alex), and Tiffany Kjartanson; two grandsons: Ryan Kjartanson (Laura) and Andrew Kjartanson (Kathleen); two great-granddaughters: Saphira Burt and Teagan Kjartanson; and two great-grandsons Calum Burt and Branden Welch. Gerry was predeceased in 1996 by her husband Terry, her father Edward ("Gub") Ryan in 1970, her mother Phyllis (McCash) Ryan in 1968, her siblings Andy Ryan, Jim Ryan and Edna (Ryan) Steel, her daughter-in-law Darlene Kjartanson (Davidson) in 2006, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Gerry was born September 21, 1933, in Winnipeg, fourth child of Edward and Phyllis' only child. Being much younger than her siblings, Gerry grew up as an "only child" in Winnipeg's "West End". Gub and Phyllis owned a grocery store on Burnell Street near Notre Dame and, during Gerry's school years, she worked in the store with her mother while Gub worked outside the store. She attended high school at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute, and it was here where she met the love of her life, Terry. During her high school years Terry and Gerry attended many dances in the West End and she would attend Terry's numerous sporting events. Terry and Gerry got married on June 7th, 1952, in the First Lutheran Church with a reception at the "old" Strathcona Curling Club. Terry and Gerry moved into their small two-bedroom house in Brooklands (Winnipeg) immediately following their marriage. During her first year of marriage Gerry worked at a bank on Notre Dame while Terry biked to work at the CN's Fort Rouge shops (they didn't have a car). In the cold winter weather of that first winter Gerry used to come home at lunch time to put coal in the basement stove to keep the water pipes from freezing! In June 1953 their first son Terry was born. Gerry was now a "stay-at-home mom". In June 1956 Mike was born. Gerry recounted that things were better in the house on William Avenue as the sewer system had been extended to Brooklands in 1956 and they now had indoor sewer plumbing. Prior to this, Gerry packed up laundry and "Little Terry" and washed laundry at Mom and Pop K's place on Spruce Street. Despite these habitation challenges, Terry and Gerry persevered. Gerry's patience was incredible. Over the years a hand-dug "mud" full basement was developed and, in 1979, Terry built a magnificent two car garage with carport. This garage served as their living quarters in 1981 when Terry, with the help of his high school friend Dan Sancan and sons Terry and Mike, almost totally razed the original house and constructed their new home complete with a new concrete basement. Gerry's patience was exhibited again and again as the finishing touches inside the home took many years to complete. It was in this new home that many wonderful family gatherings occurred over the years - usually featuring Gerry's wonderful cooking and baking. Her grandchildren have many fond memories of sleepovers at Grandma and Grandpa's place where they were totally spoiled. Once sons Terry and Mike were old enough, Gerry re-entered the workforce. Starting out working the evening shift at the Winnipeg Police Station's canteen, Gerry moved on to get her "dream job". As a librarian at the Brooklands Branch of the Winnipeg Libraries Department, Gerry interacted with many residents of the community - often children and grandchildren of people she'd known for decades. She loved the people she worked with and the people she served. Gerry retired from the Brooklands Library several years prior to Terry's death and together they enjoyed a number of great retirement years. They went on several trips, most notably their trip to visit Anne Allan's family in Ireland. Anne was the daughter Gerry never had (her words), and Anne's family was Gerry's family. Following the devastating loss of Terry in 1996, Gerry "soldiered on" alone in her home. She was a very active member of the Brooklands Active Living Centre and, with her close neighbourhood friends Maxine Warenko and Pat Sawicki, she spent many wonderful years there socializing with seniors from the Brooklands and Weston areas. Anyone who knew Gerry knew that she loved cats. She often had many cats living with her. On one occasion, as a "birthday present" to Gerry, her son Terry ended up taking two kittens from a litter that one of her cats had so that she wouldn't exceed the number of cats that one homeowner could legally possess. It was also through one of her cats that Gerry met her lifelong friend Bev Gaboravic. Bev and her husband lived nearby, and, under very unusual circumstances, Gerry found out that one of her cats was now living at Bev's place (where her cat was being totally spoiled!). Bev and Gerry became the best of friends and, in later years when Gerry had difficulties getting out, Bev often shopped for her. Another source of strength for Gerry, especially following Terry's death, was her attendance and participation in the First Lutheran Church. She was very active and volunteered on a number of its committees. She sorely missed attending church following the onset of COVID19 but appreciated the visits and calls from the FLC's Pastor Michael Kurtz. It was also during COVID that Gerry stopped driving. She recognized her limitations and didn't wish to cause any harm. This, however, made her very dependent on others. Friends, neighbours and family finally had the opportunity to repay Gerry for the kindnesses and generosity she had extended to them over the years. Gerry's mobility and mental acuity diminished significantly over the past two years. Following a bad fall in September 2022, and a week in the Grace Hospital Emergency Ward, Gerry returned to her home - this time with the assistance of home care workers. Over a period of about six months her health further deteriorated, and, after another fall, she spent about two months at the Misericordia Transitional Care Unit. From the Misericordia's TCU, on June 7th, 2023, Gerry relocated to her final residence, the Oak Unit at the Fred Douglas Lodge. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Fred Douglas Lodge for their excellent care and deep compassion as Gerry's abilities continued to diminish. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday December 2, 2023, at the First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor Street, Winnipeg, MB. R3G 1R2 with a reception to follow at the First Lutheran Church. Cremation has taken place. A private family burial service is planned in the spring. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the First Lutheran Church, the Brooklands Active Living Centre 1960 William Avenue West, Winnipeg, MB. Mario Nasuti

Mario Nasuti

Age - 53

November 23, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mario Nasuti, on Saturday, November 18th, 2023. Born on May 25th, 1950, in Mozzagrogna, Italy, to Assunta and Paolo Nasuti, Mario - affectionately known as Uncle Memo - immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada, at the age of 7 with his brothers Armando and Alberto. Later, they were joined by the birth of their little sister Anna. Mario was a Renaissance man of many talents, with music, cooking, and photography being his greatest passions. His sense of style and his prized hair were well-known; and you'd be in trouble if you touched either his records or his flowing locks. Mario's life was a tapestry of passion and creativity. He met the love of his life, Debra, on a trip to Hawaii in 77, and they embarked on a lifelong journey together. Debby was Mario's muse, inspiring much of his photography and poetry. They built a home, welcomed a dog, and in 1987, were blessed with their daughter Gina, Mario's pride, and joy. Mario's devotion to his family was unparalleled, his home always a hub of warmth and celebration. He loved hosting a party. Pulling up to the house, you'd be greeted by the sound of music and the aroma of lasagna baking. Mario always welcomed guests with a drink in hand. His definition of family extended beyond blood relations, making many feel at home in the Nasuti household. Mario leaves behind his brother Armando (June), sisters Anna (Randy) and Diana, nephews Paul, Albert, Robert, Brendan, Caleb, and Noah, nieces Kimberly, Kelly, Tammy, Alexandra, Sarina, and Adrianna, and lifelong friends Paul, Phil, Larry, and Don. What Mario cherished most were his girls - his beloved wife Debby, daughter Gina, and dog Marley. He was thrilled to welcome his son-in-law Sean into the family - finally a tall friend who shared a love of Robbie Robertson's music and good Italian wine. Mario took his final walk on November 18th, 2023, after a long and tireless battle. That morning he woke up to his wife and basked in the afternoon sun with his brothers, sisters, daughter, and son-in-law. We imagine Mario is now starting a new party somewhere, joined by his parents Assunta and Paolo, in-laws Josie and George, brothers Alberto and Ed, friend Mario Di Nella and his beloved dogs, Nera, Brandy, and Terra. A service will be held at Holy Rosary Parish on November 30th, 2023, with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano. Condolences start at 10am, service at 11am, followed by a reception. For those far and wide, live streaming of Mario's service will begin at 11am Join us in celebrating his life by visiting https://youtube. com/live/Eou6LVrvgqM?feature=share In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba or D'Arcy's Animal Rescue Centre in memory of our Mario. Our gratitude goes to the staff at Riverview Hospital and Grace Hospice for their care and kindness. Mario's legacy is a testament to a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and care for others. His spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. We love you, Dad. You did it all and took care of it all, always. You will be in our thoughts every day. Rest now, knowing you live on through us and the memories we cherish forever.Show more
