"Robert Anthony Salley, 70, of Irmo, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Born in Augusta, Georgia, on May 15, 1953, he was a son of the late John Anthony Salley and Anna Skinner Salley. Robert was the loving husband of 45 years to Brenda Reed Salley; Robert was a licensed pilot and stole Brenda’s heart after taking her out flying on the first date. He graduated from Westside High School and earned his degree in computer science from Augusta Technical College. Robert retired after 38 years as Computer Programmer and IT Specialist from Richland Memorial Hospital. He had a love for old westerns, WWII documentaries, and Broadway shows. He especially enjoyed Sci-Fi movies, Star Trek, and Star Wars. Robert is fondly remembered for his sarcastic, witty personality and his undeniable devotion to his family. He took great pride in being a husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughters, Melissa Jean Salley (Sam), Robyn Leigh Salley, Laura Elise Salley (Ross McCoon); grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Winn, Franklin Wakefield Winn, and Cheyenne Rachel Winn; siblings, Tommy Salley (Kathy), Clara McAlhany (Dan), and Mary Hensley; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. The Funeral Service for Mr. Salley will be held at 2 o’clock on Tuesday, February 27th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o’clock at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to National Geographic Society, c/o Advancement Office, 1145 17th Street NW Washington, DC 20036."

Conrad Nolon Pearson

Conrad Nolon Pearson, age 69 passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. He was a son of the late George Nolon and Jeannette Lewis Pearson. Conrad is survived by his wife, Betty Pearson, of over 40 years. Conrad was born October 25th, 1954 and was baptized in Eau Claire Baptist Church on November 7th, 1965. He was a 1971 graduate of Eau Claire High School where he was Captain of the Varsity Football Team and played on the Varsity Baseball Team. He was awarded a scholarship to The Citadel for football but due to a career ending football injury he left to pursue a career with SCE&G/SCANA where he remained and worked for over 45 years as a journeymen lineman. Conrad also taught sunday school for close to 45 years at Eau Claire Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with nature. Conrad took his hunting adventures all over the world including: Argentina, Guatemala, Mexico, and South Africa. He was a lifetime sponsor of NWTF and served on the Dutch Fork Committee for many years. He was also an active member of many associations and attended numerous banquets for Ducks Unlimited, the National Rifle Association, Quality Deer Management Association, National Wildlife Federation and the Dove Society. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jerry Shannon (Valerie);a daughter, Angela Shannon; Seven Grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his sister, Bernice Robertson (Bob); a brother, David Pearson; a very special niece, Erin Irwin (Blake);and a niece, Holly Pearson. A visitation for Conrad will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dunbar Funeral Home - Dutch Fork Chapel (7600 Woodrow St, Irmo, South Carolina 29063). A funeral service will occur Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Eau Claire Baptist Church (4427 N. Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29203). The burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery (501 Elmwood Ave, Columbia, SC 29201.) Dunbar Funeral Home- Dutch Fork Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Anita L Cox, 72, of Irmo, South Carolina passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. She was born to Larry and Wilma Helms on May 2, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa. Anita was the wife of the late Ron Cox with whom she shared 40 loving years. Anita was a member of Chapin Baptist Church, where she engrained herself in the community serving on SALT Ministry Leadership and taking part in many mission trips over the years. She especially loved being a part of the Serendipity Sunday School Class and serving in Grace Cafe on Sunday mornings with dear friends. She enjoyed using her time to serve others through a multitude of sewing projects and various crafts. She will be remembered for devoting her time and love to her family, including numerous trips to visit family out of state. In addition to her mother, Anita is survived by her daughter, Ronda Thompson (Paul); beloved granddaughters, Shelby McDowell (Seth) and Sydney Thompson (Andrew Porter); Great-grandchildren, Callie and Brantley McDowell; her two sisters, Cathy Muckenfuss (George) and Susan Cain; a niece, Dory Hand and her family. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3rd at Chapin Baptist Church (950 Old Lexington Highway, Chapin, South Carolina 29036). The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. in the church sanctuary. A burial will immediately follow the service. Dunbar Funeral Home- Dutch Fork Chapel is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.

Services will be held at his residence on Sunday, February 18 to Monday, February 19. Alfred Henry Ellington III, 55, of Irmo, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024. Al was born June 6, 1968, in Eden, North Carolina, to the late Alfred Henry Ellington Jr. and the late Alice “Gay” Ellington. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Catherine Ruth Coltrane Ellington. Al was a good-hearted person that loved family and friends alike. He was a hard-working man with many professions during his life including forklift operator, truck driver and real estate agent. Al’s passion as a young man was music. He loved to play guitar and listened to music with friends and family, until the middle of the night. Al loved this wife Cathy dearly. He cared for her during her convalescence in the later years of her life and never left her side during the roughest of times. Al will be sorely missed by everyone that had the pleasure to know him. Al is survived by his brother, Brian Thomas Ellington and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held on February 17, 2024 at 3:00pm at the Dunbar Funeral Home – Dutch Fork Chapel, 7600 Woodrow Street, Irmo, SC. The family would like attendees to arrive between 2:00pm to 3:00pm, before the service, to visit.

Samuel A. “Chic” Player, Sr., 84, of Irmo, SC passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Mr. Player was born in Society Hill, SC, a son of the late Cameron Player and Beulah Miller Saleeby. After 38 years of loyal service, he retired from Stone Container as an Area Superintendent of Maintenance. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army and a Master Mason. Chic was an avid fisherman who loved to go shrimping with family. Some of his fondest memories were teaching his knowledge of maintenance to his sons and enjoying the southern cooking of his wife of 60 years, Peggy. Surviving are wife, Peggy Cooke Player; sons, Samuel A. Player, Jr. (Brooke), Jeff Player, and Sean Smothers; grandchildren, Brian Player, Amanda Player, and Joshua Player; great-grandchildren, Caleb Player and Emma Campbell; brothers, Franklin Player and Wayne Gandy; sisters, Joyce McLendon and Betty Boan; special niece, Renee Broach. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, www.shrinerschildrens.org. Gail Koon Duke, 81, of Irmo, passed away on February 06, 2023, in Irmo, S.C. after a short illness. Gail was born in Hartsville, S.C. to the late Clifford Odell and Chellie Koon on May 27, 1942. She attended Columbia High School and later worked in the South Carolina state government for many years including the State Forestry Commission and the State Law Enforcement Division. Gail was active with various groups at her church, Riverland Hills Baptist Church, including the choir. Through this involvement, she developed many close friendships. Her family would like to thank them all for the love and support that they have shown her throughout her journey. Gail is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Shirley Hoile, and Janice Bigbee, and her Son-In-Law, Walter Johnstone. Gail is survived by her daughter, Dawn Johnstone of Raleigh, N.C. and her son, Robbie Duke of Houston, TX. Grandsons, Andrew Johnstone (David), Patrick Johnstone (Caitlyn), Brandon Duke and Colin Duke; her brothers, Clifford Koon, Jr and Brian Hoile, Sr, as well as many nieces and nephews. A Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 9th, 2024 at Riverland Hills Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. Memorials may be given to the charity of one’s choice.
