Joseph L. Fitzgibbons, age 74, of Brick passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023. He was born in East Paterson, NJ and attended Monmouth University, the College of New Jersey, and Jersey City University. He spent 15 years in Chesapeake, VA, raising his two children, before moving back to NJ in 2004. Joseph worked as a high school guidance counselor, positively impacting the lives of countless students, for more than 30 years. He loved fishing and golfing, spending time by the water and with his family and friends. Joseph is survived by his daughter, Meghan van der Eijk and husband Robert, son John Fitzgibbons and wife Rachel; sisters, Joan Fitzgibbons and Marianne Oliverie; his five adored grandchildren, Tate, McKinley, Grady, Teddy and Callum; and his significant other, Janice Gaswind. A memorial will be held on Friday, September 15 from 4-6pm at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall, NJ. A brief religious service will begin at 5pm in the funeral home. Cremation was private. Victoria Aufiero, 77, of Brick, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. Vicky was born in Newark, NJ and resided in Belleville for many years before moving to her final residence in the Greenbriar I retirement community in Brick. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Kean College which led to her career as an English teacher at East Side High School in Paterson. She later became a guidance counselor at School #5 in Paterson after receiving her Master's Degree at Montclair State University. Victoria was very active in many organizations and clubs, including but not limited to: Friends of the Brick Library, Kiwanis, and the Algonquin Theatre. Victoria is predeceased by her husband, Thomas Aufiero; her sisters Florence Delmarmo, Nellie Mauriello, Angela DiBello, Louise Grena, and brother George Delmarmo. Surviving are her son, David Aufiero; and daughters Susan Aufiero-Peters and her husband Michael Peters and son RJ; Christine Flaherty and her husband Thomas Flaherty; and Jessica Jakubas and her husband Michael Jakubas. Victoria is also survived by her four beloved grandchildren Logan and Madison Flaherty, Ava Jakubas, and Sean Peters. In addition, she leaves behind her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her warm smile, infectious laugh, and generous spirit will be greatly missed by all. Visitation is Tuesday 3-8pm and Wednesday 9-10:30am. Robert M. O’Brien 75 of Brick, NJ died Sunday, November 26, 2023 at home. Born in New York, NY, Robert lived in Eatontown for 40 years before moving to Brick. He was awarded a MBA from Monmouth University and worked for Prudential Insurance retiring as an Executive. He drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War. Robert was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church, Long Branch and St. Martha’s Church, Pt. Pleasant. Robert loved to ski and spending time at his winter home in the Pocono Mountains after his retirement. He enjoyed music, going to concerts, playing guitar, Nascar and reading. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who will be deeply missed. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Rita O’Brien. Surviving are his beloved wife of 46 years, Joanne O’Brien, 4 loving daughters, Kathleen White and her husband Chris, Mary Beth Brennan and her husband Dave, Erin McBride and her husband Mike, Shannon O’Brien and her fiancé Johan Kvist, 4 grandchildren, Gavin McBride, Adam Brennan, Lily McBride and Ryleigh McBride. He also leaves his siblings Dan O’Brien of Dayton, OH, Pat Richlin of Wayside, NJ, 15 nieces and nephews, 24 great nieces and great nephews. Dolores P Larson, 89, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Ocean University Medical Center in Brick. Born in New York City, Dolores grew up in Manhattan. She attended St Monica's elementary school and St Lawrence Academy high school. She graduated to Briarcliff College and continued to Marymount College, Tarrytown. After college, Mrs. Larson worked for the VA Hospital in NYC. During the early 1960s, she worked at CBS Television Network with such luminaries as Norman Jewison, John Frankenheimer and Jackie Gleason. Dolores spent summers with her family in Spring Lake. She later met the love of her life, Charles, at the Monmouth Hotel. After they married, they lived many happy years on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and on Vroom Ave in Spring Lake. Dolores and Charles enjoyed traveling all over the world. They would celebrate their anniversary every year on the South of France. After her husband's passing, she continued the tradition to her favorite destination. She will be remembered for her vivacious energy and magnetic personality. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles A. Larson in 2001 and her adored brother, Eugene Martin. Surviving are her cherished son, Christopher Larson and his partner, Mary Kush. Irving L. Yaffie, 74, of Brick NJ, passed away on November 16, 2023. Born in Syracuse, NY, Irv grew up in Fayetteville, NY and attended Jamesville Dewitt High School. He met his future wife, Audrey Miller, on the campus of Syracuse University in 1974. They would go on to marry ten years later and settled in New Jersey to start their family together. Irv started his career in Syracuse, working for Artifacts, a graphic arts company, creating hard edge murals on buildings and giant canvases. Upon settling in New Jersey, Irv joined his father-in-law's business, Fair Haven Exxon, and worked there for many years as a car mechanic. In 1983, Irv and Audrey started their own kite business, Sky High Kites, in the Black Sheep Building in Fair Haven. While Audrey ran the kite business, Irv simultaneously worked with Hagan Construction for several years. Irv was a master carpenter and in 1986, when they moved the kite shop to Ocean Grove, Irv started his own carpentry business and renovated many homes in Ocean Grove. In his youth, Irv enjoyed skiing, sailing, canoeing, fishing, and motorcycling. Irv also had a green thumb when it came to vegetable gardening. Creative, skilled and talented in pen and ink sketching, Irv created numerous original works of art. Irv's other great passion was kite flying and he relished flying kites on the pathway and on the beach in Ocean Grove, as well as stacking stunt kites that would lift him off the ground and carry him down the beach. Irv is predeceased by his parents, Charles A. and Beverly (Grey) Yaffie. Irv is survived by his devoted and loving wife of almost 40 years, Audrey Yaffie, his cherished son, Skyelar Yaffie and wife Sara of Ocean Township NJ, and his three grandchildren, Nora, Isla, and Owen, all of whom he completely adored. Irv is also survived by his brothers, Charles Yaffie and wife Chris of Leland NC, and Jay Yaffie of Syracuse, NY, as well as his niece Ashley Yaffie of Rochester NY. Kevin S. White, 63, of Brick, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at his home. Born in Neptune, Kevin grew up in West Belmar prior to settling in Brick. He was employed with Monmouth County as a heavy equipment operator. Kevin enjoyed cooking and feeding others, fishing, hunting and getting together with family and friends. He had a great love for family, especially his uncle Charlie who was like a second father to him. Kevin had a personality bigger than life and will be deeply missed every day by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his kind heart, and generous spirit, always offering to lend a helping hand to others. Kevin was a great storyteller, who’s stories will continue to live on with his friends and family. Lori Ann Curtis, 64, of Keansburg, formally of Union Beach, known affectionately by all as Lori, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2023, at the Ocean University Medical Center in Brick. Born on November 19, 1958, in Jersey City, Lori lived a life full of passion, dedication, and remarkable resilience. Lori was a beloved mother, friend, and community member, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met. She spent her early years in Bayonne, before moving to Union Beach, and eventually settling down in Keansburg. Lori's vibrant spirit and zest for life were evident in every chapter of her life's journey. In her professional life, Lori served her community as a bartender in Bayonne and locally at Aders, The Colony, and the American Legion. Her charismatic personality and knack for making anyone feel welcome made her a cherished figure at these establishments. Lori's infectious laughter and warm-heartedness brought a sense of comfort and camaraderie to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Lori was a woman of many interests and passions. She had a love for motorcycles and had a unique style, often seen in her signature leather and leopard prints. Lori was an avid viewer of crime shows like Law and Order and Forensic Files and found joy in selling jewelry. She was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary and former color guard of Post 321 in Union Beach. Lori was also a proud member of Under My Skin For Life Foundation, contributing to her community with unwavering commitment. Lori had a special place in her heart for her pets, cherishing her cats and dogs with immense affection. However, her greatest love was undoubtedly her three sons. Lori is survived by her loving sons, Thomas, Frankie, and Travis. Her love for them was boundless, and she was a constant source of support and encouragement in their lives. Despite the loss of her parents, Francis in 2019, and Amelia in 2014, Lori was a beacon of strength for her family, embodying the values of resilience and love that her parents instilled in her. Lori's life was a testament to her strength of character, her unwavering faith, and her boundless love for her family. She lived her life to the fullest, touching the hearts of many with her kindness and generosity. Lori's legacy will continue to live on through her sons and in the hearts of all who knew her. Lori Ann Curtis may have left us in the physical sense, but her spirit, her love, and her memory will forever remain in our hearts. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate her life, cherishing the moments we shared, and the love and joy she brought into our lives. Although we say goodbye to Lori today, her spirit will continue to inspire us, reminding us of the strength of love, the joy of laughter, and the importance of community.
