On Monday, October 2, 2023, Joseph Alexander Clements (Clem) passed away peacefully at his home in Somerville, Massachusetts, surrounded by his family. He was 90 years old. Clem was born to Harry Norman and Jennie Clements on December 30, 1932, in Newport News, Virginia. Clem was a devoted family man and loved each family member dearly. Clem is survived by his wife, Martha, and their two children, son Stephen Clements and his wife Jean Clements of Framingham, and daughter Leslie Hughes and her husband John Hughes of Somerville. He is survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Clements of Austin, TX, Keri Clements of Windsor, CT, and Devin Hughes of Somerville, and his great-grandchild, Isabelle Clements of Austin, TX. He is also remembered and loved by many nieces and nephews (known to some as "Uncle Alec" and to others as "Uncle Clem"). Clem was preceded in death by his siblings, Harry Norman Clements II and Norma Goalder, of Virginia and Carrie Snow of Florida. After graduating from high school, Clem joined the Navy, where he served for 4 years in Newport, R. I. He served aboard the USS Yosemite, a destroyer tender, performing maintenance on battleships as a Bell Diver. While in the Navy, Clem met his wife, Martha Brown of Somerville, MA, on a blind date. Clem and Martha married less than a year later and were happily married for 66 years. For all the years they were married, Clem and Martha held hands everywhere they went. Clem worked for many years at G&L Welding and Raytheon. After he retired, in the winter, Clem and Martha traveled around the country in their RV and, in the summer, spent time in East Wakefield, NH, at their second home. Clem was a member of the Masonic John Abbot Lodge and was an amateur Ham radio operator. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching the Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins games. As a younger man, he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Clem's main passion was woodworking. He designed and created furniture for his home, family, and friends. His latest passion was building stunning custom-made wooden gear clocks. He kept pictures of his creations on his cell phone and would proudly show them off to one and all. Joan (McPherson) Grimes passed away, at her Somerville home, surrounded by the love of her family on November 21, 2023, she was 68. One of fifteen children, she was born in Medford the daughter of the late Mary (White) and Alphonsus McPherson. A graduate of Somerville High School, she worked as a paraprofessional teacher with Somerville Public Schools for many years. She enjoyed baking and cake decorating, hosting family and taking her grandchildren to the beach. She was the devoted mother of Allison Faeth and her husband Sean of Somerville. Cherished grandmother of Anjelica Mazariegos and her husband Giancarlo, Emily, Ryker and Rebeka Faeth and great-grandmother of Jazlynn Mazariegos. She was the loving partner of Peter Palombo. Dear sister of Margaret O'Neill of Arlington, Richard McPherson and Francis McPherson, both of Somerville and the late Helen DeInnocentis, John McPherson, William McPherson, Thomas McPherson, James McPherson, Alphonsus McPherson, Joseph McPherson, Robert McPherson, Mary Jane Berry, Ann Giorgio and Patricia White. With deep sorrow, the Ricoy and Martinez families announce the peaceful passing of Maria Teresa Ricoy, 55, of Somerville, Massachusetts, on October 31st, 2023. Teresa was a loving and devoted wife of Edmundo Ricoy, mother of two children, Anastasia Ricoy and Daniel Edmundo Ricoy, sister of Soledad Martinez, Alejandra Rojo, Juan Carlos Martinez, and sister-in-law to Lina Martinez and Margarita Ricoy. She also leaves behind 12 nieces and nephews and 20 grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Blanca Rojo, and father, Jose Rojo. Teresa was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 25, 1967, to Blanca and Jose Rojo. Teresa loved the arts, theater, and classical music; The Four Seasons by Vivaldi was among her favorite pieces. As a child, she worked hard at every endeavor and earned the respect of her peers. At the age of 11, Teresa immigrated to the United States, a country she loved and called home for more than 40 years. She attended East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, and University of Utah where she studied economics, continuing on to Boston University where she received her Master's in Finance and Economics. Teresa spent much of her professional life at the Federal Reserve Bank where she was a valued relationship manager and business analyst. Teresa enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, sewing, jogging and running marathons, and putting on summer barbecues with her neighbors. She could always be counted on to make the holidays special by sharing delicious meals with family and friends. Her greatest love, though, was her children. Teresa was committed and selfless in the service of her family. Outside her family, too, Teresa will be remembered as unconditionally giving, volunteering her time with the United Way to raise money for children with terminal illnesses, and at her church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she was a primary teacher. Wherever she went, Teresa demonstrated compassion, dedication, and love, traits that inspired lifelong cherished friendships. Federico "Frederick" Barile, of Somerville and formerly of Jamaica Plain, passed away at his Somerville home surrounded by the love of his family on November 5, 2023. He was 84. Born in Chiusano di San Domenico, Italy, he was the son of the late Michelina (Volpe) and Vincenzo Barile. Mr. Barile immigrated to the United States in 1956, first arriving in East Boston and then settling in Jamaica Plain. A graduate of Boston Trade School, he first found work as a barber and then went into the electric trade as an electric panel installer. During this time he met his precious wife of 59 years, Eleanor (Phillips) Barile, with whom he raised their family in Somerville. In addition to his beloved wife Eleanor, he is lovingly survived by his cherished daughters; Michelle Barile, Patricia Barile and Carla Barile-Murray and her husband Eugene Murray, all of Somerville and his grandson, Leo LaValle of New Hampshire. He is further survived by his brother-in-law, Kenneth F. Phillips and his wife, Margo of Florida and his Best Man, Antonino Barbarino and his wife, Lorraine of Lowell. He was the brother of the late Fernando Barile and brother-in-law of the late Thomas E. Phillips. Federico was known by many as Fred and Nino, but was playfully named "Supreme" by Carla whose friends also knew him as "Primo" since he was one-of-a-kind. An award winning bowler, he enjoyed playing cards and was also an avid gardener at his home and across the street at the Tufts Community Garden, where he maintained his plot for over 30 years. Above all, he will be remembered as a hard worker, a humble and generous man who was especially devoted to his family and friends. Calling Hours will be held in the George L. Cotter, Edward J. - Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 4th. He was 97. Born in Somerville to the late Bridget (Murphy) Cotter and Edward J. Cotter. He attended Somerville High School and was an employee of the Somerville Public Works Dept. for almost 40 years, a U. S. Navy Veteran and a member of Somerville Post 19 American Legion. Eddie lived life to the fullest. He had a calm demeanor and more often than not a smile on his face. He loved dancing bowling and was an avid Boston sports fan. His family was his whole life, especially his grandchildren. He loved to joke around with them and always made each one feel they were the most important person in his life. Eddie was predeceased by his wives Mildred (MacDonald) Cotter and Lenore "Sis" Cotter. He was the father of Edward, Daniel and his wife Paula, James and his wife Susan and Gary Cotter. Janice Landry and her husband Steve, Barbara Campbell and her husband Scott and the late Keith Cotter. He was also the step-father to Robert, Judy and the late Dennis Brown.
