Joseph Campbell Obituary

Joseph Campbell, known as Joe, was born in May Pen, Jamaica January 05, 1952. His mother, Anecia, had eight children with Fred Campbell, a farmer. The family moved from Lucky Valley, Jamaica to a farm named Woodleigh in May Pen. Their dad grew tobacco and sugarcane. Joe sometimes mischievous played with his brother Howard, and developed an interest in horse betting, which also sparked his love for numbers. He eventually followed his older brother, Edgar, to the U. S. where he obtained an engineering degree at The University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Followed by a masters in mining engineering at the Southern Illinois University where he met his wife Sherese Larkins. Joseph and Sherese married and had one son, Justin Campbell. The family moved across the country for his career. Joe went on to have a lustrous career in oil & gas, working for some of the biggest names in the industry such as Exxon and Shell. At one point, most likely the only black mining engineer in the country. Joe loved taking trips with his son back to Jamaica showing him the "ropes. " Teaching him how to ride a min-bus or eat a beef patty without burning yourself. All who knew Joe would say he was simply a funny guy and made you laugh when around him. When it came to sports, he loved soccer and track. When it came to furniture, he'd only buy an antique, and when it came to music, he was still singing Marvin Gaye up until his last few days. He could take one man's trash and make a dollar out of it. That was his life motto. On September 1st, 2023 Joe, age 71, was called home to be with the Lord. He was surrounded with love the night before with his son and ex-wife. He leaves behind his brothers, Edgar and Howard, along with his sisters, Marlene, Shirley, Angela, June and Pat. There will be a service from 5:00 p. m. until 9:00 p. m. , Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Claire Brothers Funeral Home, 7901 Hillcroft Street, Houston, Texas 77081.
