Joseph "Joe" Kimble Brister, 85, of Gastonia, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023. He was born August 23, 1938, in Clarks Green, PA, to the late Fred and Ruth Kimble Brister. Mr. Brister attended and graduated from high school in La Plume, PA, before enlisting in the U. S. Air Force. During his 26-year career in the Air Force, he served throughout the United States and abroad before retiring in 1984, at the rank of Master Sergeant. He then returned to his job as a Civil Service Employee for an additional 19 years where he reached the position of Electronic Equipment Specialist Supervisor before retiring a second time. He enjoyed camping in the mountains, traveling abroad, going on cruise ships, cooking and grilling, reading spy novels, and yard work. In addition to parents, his brother, David Brister and his granddaughter, Lenae Shae Goodman, preceded him in death. He is survived by wife, Carmen "Pat" Brister, whom married April 26, 1963; their children, Carmen Dena Finken of Spartanburg, SC, James Fountain Brister of Buffalo, NY, and Deborah Lee Goodman (Eric) of Gastonia, NC; six grandchildren, Brandon Goodman, Christopher Goodman, James Brister, Aaron Brister, Robert Brister, and Lillian Brister; and three great-grandchildren, Brantley Goodman, Shae Goodman, and Aria Goodman. Mildred Louise Fite McGuire, 86, of Rockwell, NC passed away October, 9,2023 at Clemmons Village in Clemmons, North Carolina. Louise was born on May 22nd, 1937 in Rowan County to the late Quincy Abernathy Fite Sr. and Martha Mae Goodman Fite. She grew up in Kannapolis, NC with 4 sisters and 2 brothers, and settled close by with her husband, Blake after they married on March 31, 1956. They raised two loving sons and she retired after a long career with Fieldcrest Mills in Kannapolis. Louise was of the Baptist faith and attended Brookdale Baptist Church. "Mamaw," as she was affectionately known, loved her grandchildren and delighted in them and all they were doing in life. She was a "go-getter" who kept a meticulous home and enjoyed yard work, growing things, and working around their house. Louise had a particular need to help others and was always finding kind ways to do so. She loved her family fiercely, had a generous spirit, an infectious laugh, loved to dance, and was known for her red velvet pound cakes that were present at most family gatherings. In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Blake McGuire, Sr. , and siblings, Glady Fite Benfield, Peggy Fite Medlin, Doris Fite Goodman, Carl Fite, and Quincy "Buck" Fite Jr. Louise is survived by her sons, B. B. McGuire Jr, and wife Jan of Eden NC, Todd McGuire and wife Krista of Cornelius NC, and 4 grandchildren: Mary McGuire, Sarah McGuire, William McGuire, and Grace McGuire. She also leaves a sister, Pat Blackmon and her family, a cherished nephew, Tim Goodman, and cousin, Carla Smith, and other special cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family. Louise Rachel Linker "Lois" Misenheimer of Rockwell passed away at home on October 7, 2023, at the impressive age of 98. She was born July 26, 1925, in Rowan County, to the late Claude and Ethel Hartsell Linker. Mrs. Misenheimer attended Kluttz School. She began her career working with Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, later becoming a beautician. She owned & operated a cafe with her late husband in Rockwell for many years, specializing in NC barbeque. Cooking was in her bones, and she was known for showing her love for others through food throughout her life. After the cafe closed, she went on to work and retire from Fiber Industries, where she was a Lab Analyst. Never one to sit still for long, she went on to work at the Granite Knitwear Outlet Store, where she retired a second time in the early 2000s. She was a devoted Christ-follower and longtime member of Ursinus United Church of Christ in Rockwell, where she was active within many of the church's women's groups. Mrs. Misenheimer enjoyed crocheting, gardening, cooking (especially baking) and reading. She loved spending time with family, cooking family dinners every Sunday after church, and hosting every holiday at her home in Rockwell. Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her greatest delight. She was the matriarch of her family, a role model, and a brilliant example of unconditional love. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Theodore Misenheimer; daughter, Joyce Misenheimer Smart; sisters, Grace Brown and Frances Goodman; and great-granddaughter, Haysley Rilee Abernethy. Mrs. Misenheimer is survived by her children, Charles Michael Misenheimer and wife, Barbara, of Mooresville, Rachel Misenheimer Lapham of Granite Quarry, and Patty Misenheimer Dunn and husband, Dowd, of Rockwell; sister, Oneita Bruce of Rockwell; grandchildren Charles Misenheimer of Osage Beach, MO, Chrissy Misenheimer of Mooresville, Shannon Torello of Wilmington, Roderick Lapham, Jr. of Cannon Air Force Base, Clovis, NM, Cameron Lapham of Granite Quarry, Amanda Reid of Sumter, SC, and Kaitlyn Abernethy of Rockwell; great-grandchildren Kylie Hammerich, Colin Misenheimer, Nathan Zabinski, Savannah Broome, Levi Lapham, Brayden Lapham, Maverick Reid, Aria Reid, Elena Bridges, Tatum Abernethy and Rylee Abernethy. The family invites you to celebrate Mrs. Misenheimer's life at Ursinus United Church of Christ, 116 W. Main Street, Rockwell, NC on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Diane Thompson Murdock was born on September 7, 1943, in Charlotte, NC, to parents Samuel Lee Thompson and Lillie Mae Thompson and entered eternal life on September 8, 2023. Diane was a resident of Kannapolis, China Grove, and Winston-Salem, NC. She had prominent positions in textiles and transportation such as Cannon Mills, BFI-Waste Management, and Cabarrus County Schools. She was a member of Church of God of Prophecy and Bethel Baptist Church. She was truly a servant of the Lord and utilized her gifts as Sunday School teacher, Armor Bearer, the Pastoral Care Committee, the Senior Choir, and the Senior Citizen Ministry. She is joined in death by her parents, Samuel and Lillie Mae Thompson; siblings, Bert Thompson, Sam Thompson, Jr. , Mildred Broddie, and Sadie Thompson; and daughter, Gloria Hannah. She leaves behind her five children, Hubert Murdock, Arnold Murdock, Lillian Bullard, Tonya M. Wilson, and Sonya M. Smith; her grandchildren, Marko Murdock, Diana Graham and Ronald Graham, Shavonne Wilson and James M. Wilson, Hubert Murdock, Jr. and April Duncan; niece Carla Brown; nephew, Eugene Thompson; and a host of great-grandchildren and friends. Karen Painter Lesley, 69, of Gold Hill, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023 in Raleigh due to a recurrence of cancer. She was born May 20, 1954 and was the youngest daughter of the late Giles M. Painter and Francis Waller Painter. Karen was a graduate of East Rowan High School Class of 1972. She worked for the Rowan/Salisbury School System at Erwin Middle School as a substitute teacher and later as a Library Media Assistant. Karen was a faithful member of the Salisbury Church of Christ and longtime Bible class teacher for children. She enjoyed cooking for others, cake decorating, sewing, and gardening. Above all, she loved being a grandmother to her twin grandboys. In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Wayne Lesley; infant daughter, Amanda Diane Lesley; and sister, Sarah P. Newell. Karen is survived by her two sons, Brian Lesley and wife Melissa of Raleigh and Jeff Lesley of Wilmington; twin grandsons, Cameron and Spencer Lesley of Raleigh; brother, Lewis Painter of New Bern; and sister, Glenda P. Albert and husband Lee of California. The family will greet friends and relatives on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home, Rockwell, NC.
