Clara Mae (Youngblood) Young was born on March 2, 1945, to Robert and Alline (Humphrey) Youngblood in Homer, Louisiana. The sixth of eight children born to this union, she transitioned to eternity on December 6, 2023. Affectionately regarded as "Sweetie", Clara graduated as valedictorian from Mayfield High School in 1963. She went on to attend Grambling College in Grambling, Louisiana, where she graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education. She taught typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping at Pineview High School in Louisiana for one semester. She later enjoyed a longtime career at the City of Dallas working for the Dallas Fire Department - Arson and Fire Investigation (a law enforcement agency) for 27 years. Her job scope included personal contact with parents and the juveniles who were referred to the Juvenile Firesetters Program. She was instrumental in creating and maintaining confidential files of adult arson suspects and juvenile offenders, and she maintained custody of all fire department polygraph examination files. She also attended several City of Dallas leadership seminars. After many years of dedicated service, she retired in 1996. However, her passion for helping young people led her to volunteer and become a substitute teacher at New Mt. Zion Daycare for two years. Clara married the love of her life, Jalmar William Young. Together, they nurtured and loved two children. The two remained united in holy matrimony until his eternal transition in 1994. As a young child, Clara accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was an active member of Center Springs Methodist Church in Louisiana. Upon relocating to Dallas in 1967, under the leadership of Rev. M. V. Wade, she united with Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served on the Adult Usher Board and sang in the Senior Choir for 10 years. In 1977, she united with New Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. R. E. Price, Sr. In 1977, she was appointed by Pastor Price to serve as Youth Director, a role she fulfilled until 2023. She also served on the Adult and Youth Usher Boards; was a VBS Arts and Crafts worker; attended Women's Sunday School; and attended mid-week Bible Study. Other offices held during her time at New Mt. Zion included Assistant Youth Usher Board Director (1979), Adult Usher Board President (1981), NMZ Athletic Department Girls Assistant Softball Coach (1984), and Youth Usher Board Director (1994). Clara remained a faithful servant until her transition. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Alline (Humphrey) Youngblood; husband, Jalmar Young; and siblings. Those left to cherish precious memories include her son, Jamal Young; daughter, Dashuna Young; granddaughters, Jadra and Oriel; and a host of family and friends.
