Joyce L. Benstead, 78 of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at a nursing facility in Onawa, Iowa comforted by family. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a. m. Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Evangelical Free Church in Concord, Nebraska with Reverend Todd Thelen officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery in rural Allen, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 4:00 p. m. until 8:00 p. m. Thursday, November 30th at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, Nebraska with family present at 6:00 p. m. and a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 p. m. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www. meyerbroschapels. com Joyce was born on January 31, 1945 in Spencer, Iowa to Orville and Margaret (Mincer) O’Hara. The family relocated to Sioux City when Joyce was 16 years old, and she continued her education, graduating with the Class of 1963 from Central High School. While in high school, she worked at Fish Gals in Sioux City where she became interested in bookkeeping. She married Wilmer E. Benstead on September 17, 1965 at the First Assembly of God Church in Sioux City. She and Wilmer moved onto the family farm south of Allen, Nebraska following the marriage. Joyce worked as the bookkeeper for Farmer’s Coop in Allen, Nebraska until 1997. She joined the bookkeeping department at Tyson Foods. Joyce retired in 2008. After her husband Wilmer died in 2014, she returned to Sioux City where she remained. Joyce was very active in activities and church memberships including the Chatter-sew neighborhood group, selling Tupperware, Avon, and even Amway for a while. She taught Sunday School, sang at church, and loved to sew and bake/decorate cakes. It was common to hear her say, "don’t slam the door, I have a cake in the oven!" Joyce found her greatest joy and fulfillment from her faith in God, and spending time with her family. Joyce is survived by her children Jennifer (Doug) Geigle of Rapid City, South Dakota, Byron Benstead of Ponca, Nebraska, Heather (Alex) Dohrman of Piedmont, South Dakota, Brent (Stephanie) Benstead of Hay Springs, Nebraska, and Heidi (Chad) Luedke of Hickman, Nebraska; grandchildren Taylor Dohrman, Savannah Staab, Amber Hollmann, McKenzie Short, Hadley Geigle, Breanne Schmidt, Emily Turner, Bristen Benstead, Ashtyn Huitzman, Aubrie Howard, Gage Geigle, Ian Geigle, Wade Dohrman, Spencer Dohrman, Seth Dohrman, Dylan Turner, Trevin Scoggan, Teagan Scoggan, Tagert Benstead, and Zach Killin; 8 great-grandkids; sister Sarah (Dan) Carlson of Mason City, Iowa; brother Paul (Bonnie) O’Hara of Independence, Missouri; and sisters-in-law Beverly Steward and Sara Mae Tennison. Bonnie Graybill

Bonita Ruth (Pedersen) Graybill was born on November 18, 1934 near Dunlap, Iowa to parents Floyd and Golda (Summerfield) Pedersen. The family farmed in the Dunlap and Woodbine area and then in 1950 moved to the Moorhead area. Bonnie started school in Dunlap and then graduated from Moorhead High School in 1953. Bonnie then worked at the Moorhead State Bank and the Soldier Valley Savings Bank. On July 19, 1957, Bonnie married Bruce Graybill in Ute, Iowa. Bruce was in the Army so Bonnie stayed with her folks until Bruce was stationed in the Washington DC area and Bonnie joined him in Arlington, Virgina. They lived in various locations including Germany. In 1975, Bruce retired from the Army and the family moved back to Moorhead. Bonnie worked at Bob’s IGA in Moorhead, which later became Swenson’s Market from 1982 to 1997. Bonnie was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church, where she had been active with the church ladies group. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors Club. She loved sports, especially watching the Atlanta Braves. Loved to watch and feed birds and her dog Buster. Bonnie died on Monday, November 6, 2023 at the Elmwood Care Center in Onawa at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 18 days. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bruce Graybill in 2009 and her brother, Gary Pedersen. She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara and her husband Mark Jensen of Pisgah, Iowa and Brenda and her husband Walker Carrigan of Onawa, Iowa; four grandchildren, Angela (Brandon) Gates, Michael (Emily) Jensen, Nathan (Sydney Davis) Carrigan and Sydney Carrigan; brother, Royce Pedersen of Marshall, Minnesota; sister, Gloriane Rosburg of Martell, Nebraska and many other relatives and friends.Show more

Dorothy Jean was born February 17, 1927, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Esther (Krogh) Jorgensen. She was baptized July 17, 1927 and confirmed on June 8, 1941 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elk Point, South Dakota. Dorothy grew up on a farm near Elk Point, South Dakota. She attended school at Elk Point High School and graduated with the class of 1945. She furthered her education at Augustana College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado, and Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa. Dorothy received her teaching degree from Morningside College. Dorothy and Virgil Gunion were married on June 22, 1957, in Elk Point, South Dakota. To this union two sons were raised, Michael and John. She taught for forty years at the Onawa Public School and West Monona School systems. She taught 5th and 6th grade; she enjoyed teaching math. Dorothy was on the National Education Association, Iowa State Education Association, and Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Dorothy was a member of the Onawa Women's Club, Onawa Country Club and Ladies Golfing Club, and Burgess Auxiliary Board. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, where she participated in WELCA. She enjoyed reading history and mystery books, traveling, bus tours, sports, golf, bridge, and flowers. Dorothy loved to spend time with her friends and family. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa. Randy Lee was born June 27, 1955, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of James Eugene and Barbara DeLoris (Jones) Mings. He grew up in Onawa, Iowa and attended school at West Monona. Randy served in the United States Army June 30, 1972 and until he was honorably discharged on December 7, 1973. Randy was a heavy equipment operator for various places for many years. Randy enjoyed rebuilding cars and trucks. He was into politics. Randy enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels at his home. He was a union member while working with heavy equipment. Survivors include his daughter, Melissa Lee (Juan) Leon of Spring Creek, Nevada; grandchildren, MariLee Leon and Johonna Leon; uncle, Kenny (Irene) Mings of Onawa, Iowa; and numerous cousins, other relatives, and friends.
