Johnny Boyd Henson III, 55, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023. Johnny was the son of the late John B Henson II and Emma Moses Henson. Johnny loved tinkering with electronics, even if it was working. He always had to alter it to make it better. Streaming movies was his favorite past time, his favorite show was Mystery Science Theater. He was also a photographer in the past. He had a Associates Degree for Electrical Engineering. He worked for Tektone of Franklin. He is survived by his wife, Carolee Berryhill Henson of Franklin. A celebration of life will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, October 11, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm, one hour prior to the service. Rhonda Priscilla Mason-DuVall gained her eternal wings on the morning of December 7, 2023. She was born on August 7, 1969, in Rabun County, GA. She was the daughter of the late Gerald Daniel and Leona Greene Mason. Rhonda is survived by her husband of 26 years, Terry L. DuVall; two children, Brandy Carnes (Ben) of Tiger, GA, and Erwin John Cody Gribble III of Ohio; one grandchild, Ellie Carnes; two brothers, Steve Mason (Dusty) and Mark Mason (LaRessie) both of Franklin, NC; and two sisters, Shelba Kiker (Keith) of Sneedville, TN, and Robin Chastain of Franklin, NC. She also has numerous nieces, nephews and cousins surviving. Rhonda's father was a Baptist minister and would preach on the radio on Sunday mornings. As a child, Rhonda at times would stand on a chair in the studio and sing songs that her father wanted her to. She would travel to different churches in Clay and Macon County to sing. Rhonda did love her music. She was a devout Christian and worked as a window clerk at the United States Post Office. Rhonda loved growing flowers and shrubs with her mother and sharing seeds and such with friends. She also enjoyed sharing seed books with Uncle Allen. Rhonda also loved making quilts with her mother, crocheting afghans for family, and crafts of all kinds. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Mrs. Lois Hedden Rains, 76, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023. Mrs. Rains was born October 2, 1947, in Clemson, SC, to the late Wilbur and Opal Allsep Hedden. Lois worked in medical research, was a reporter, working for several newspapers and she held a Real Estate Broker's license. She loved gardening, humming birds, photography, and traveling. Lois was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Survivors include her husband, John Rains; three children, Kevin Rains, Victoria Rains Jenkins (Stephen Jenkins), and Cameron Rains; three grandchildren, Elisha Rains Wallace, Galeb Rains Wallace, and Allison Jenkins; three brothers, Gene Hedden (Barbara), Ralph Hedden (Jewel), and Bud Hedden (Pat); and two sisters, Linda Hedden and Mary Dotson (John). In addition to her parents Lois was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom Hedden, Jimmy Hedden, Lawrence Hedden. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Monday, December 11, 2023, at the Double Springs Methodist Church with the Rev. Roy Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Marilyn Outlaw North, 87, of Franklin, NC, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023. Marilyn was born in Ft. Pierce, FL to the late Edwin and Elizabeth Outlaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sons, Thomas Leon North Jr. and Donald Maurice North, brother, Donald Eugene Newton, sister Sandra Kay Ritton and granddaughter, Heidi Lynn North. Mrs. North was a member of Longview Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Thomas Leon North Sr. of Franklin, NC. Sons: Gerald Eugene North of Oklahoma City, OK, Wendell Lee North of Ft. Pierce FL, Dale Wayne North of Franklin, NC, and daughter Della Marie North of Port St. Lucie, FL. Christine Hall Gaskins, 89, of Franklin, NC, died Tuesday December 5, 2023 at the Macon Valley Nursing Center in Franklin. She was born August 26, 1934 in Berrien County to the late Plemon Hall and the late Olif Joiner Hall. She was a homemaker and member of the Abundant Life Church of God in Valdosta. She was the widow of Walter Denzil "Denny" Gaskins who died in 2011 and was also preceded in death by a sister: Betty Jean Cowan and 3 brothers: James L. Hall, Willie B. Hall and Carol Lee Hall. She is survived by a daughter: Lisa (John) Kumpik of Valdosta; son: Danny (Doris) Gaskins of Enigma; 5 grandchildren: Melissa Davis, John (Allison) Kumpik, Jr, Rachel Gaskins, Jason (Shannon Bailey) Kumpik and Danny (Katie Black) Gaskins, Jr; 2 great grandchildren: Stacie (Tanner) Fender and Jadyn Kumpik; 3 great great grandchildren: Braden Fender, Kaylee Fender and Maybree Fender; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday December 9, 2023 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Morris officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside cemetery. Virgil A. "Bud" Shewbart 10/05/1934-11/28/2023 Lieutenant Colonel, Virgil A. Shewbart, 89, Franklin NC resident passed away on Wednesday November 28, 2023, after a short illness. There is so much of Bud that lived between the dates. He was a great father, a good family man and a friend to so many. Bud served in the US Air Force as a Navigator and later as a Weapon Systems Officer. He served in Vietnam and was called upon during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He is survived by his wife, Alice, his sister Virginia, his children, Keith, Kathy, Karen, stepson Seth and nephews Douglas, Michael, nieces Paula, and Janet and many family members. His desire was to be cremated but will make his final service call at military ceremony at a later date. Bud was a selfless man and wanted any respectful memories to go to the Tunnels to Towers or St. Judes Hospital. Bud made an impact on so many lives and will be missed greatly. Jon Thorpe Earp, 80, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2023. Jon was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to the late Thorpe and Hazel Earp on December 27, 1942. The family moved to Sarasota, Florida in 1951 where Jon was involved in all sports, especially Sarasota County Little League. He graduated from Sarasota High in 1961 and then enlisted in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1964. Jon was a superintendent for Gulf Contracting in Sarasota, until moving with his family to Highlands, NC in 1979, where he continued his carpentry business, Carpentry Unlimited. Jon loved building, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. Jon is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kay Calhoun Earp, two children, Kristy (Edward) of Highlands, NC and Kevin (Jane) of Scaly Mtn. , NC. William Hall

Early in the morning of December 2, 2023, William Ralph Hall (nicknamed Bub) age 84 left us to be with the Lord. He was born to Williams Ligah Hall and Bertie Leatherman Hall on August 10, 1939. He grew up with his two brothers and three sisters. He joined the Navy at the age of 18. Following his service, he met and married Linda Hyatt. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage this past August. He went to college at night while working full time. After graduating from Kennesaw College, he made a career as a Systems Analyst for Fulton County, GA. After retiring, he and Linda moved back to their beloved mountains. His favorite pastimes were spending time with family and flying. Bub is survived by his wife, Linda, and his two daughters Shelley Williams (Kelly) and Sherri Jones (Loran). He has five grandchildren: Jessica Eller, Chance Jones, Jordan Jones, Alaina Jones, and Anna Jones. He also has two great grandchildren CJ and Alexis Clark. He is also survived by his brother- in-law Jewel Ray Bishop, sister Carla Bowen, brother Ivan Hall (Reba), brother Tom Hall, and sister Margaret Hall Sutton (Danny). There are numerous nieces and nephews that he loved greatly. Bub is preceded in death by his sister Marylee Bishop, brothers-in-law Ted Bowen and Gary Sutton, and sister-in-law Jill Hall. A funeral service will be held December 5, 2023, 2:00 p. m. at Liberty Baptist Church, 67 Mica City Road, Franklin, NC. 28734. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.
