| | | Johnnie Alex Griffin, 77, of Ranson, WV, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, at the Jefferson Medical Center, Ranson, WV. Johnnie was born January 31, 1946, in Norfolk, VA. The son of the late Johnnie Griffin and Gracie (Hare) Griffin, he lived in Washington, DC until his parents moved to Jefferson Co. , WV. In 1988 Johnnie was welcomed with loving arms by Julian "Pete" and Janet Breeden. Johnnie was employed for many years at the Eastern Panhandle Training Center where he was recognized for his dedication of service. He was a custodian at the Air National Guard and received a certificate of appreciation for his devotion and dedication to the maintenance of the building. Johnnie also worked at the Ranson Police Department, The Wishing Well and The Anvil. Johnnie had many friends and never met a stranger. He loved spending time at the JCCOA (formerly the Ranson Senior Center) with his friends playing pool. Johnnie was a great pool player and an avid bowling player. He was a member of a bowling league for many years and won numerous trophies. He was awarded the "World's Best Harmonica Player" in 2018 by the JCCOA. Johnnie loved the Dairy Queen, people watching, Western movies, singing karaoke, blue grass, and country music. He loved playing his guitar, harmonica and listening to albums and 45's on his record player. Johnnie was a participant in the Special Olympics winning numerous medals. Johnnie was always smiling, cared for everyone, and was loved by all who met him. Johnnie will especially be missed by his 4-pound companion, Sadie. Johnnie is survived by Julian "Pete" and Janet Breeden, with whom he lived; David and Julie Bound and their sons, Julian and Jaden; Joann Christian and Del Grimes, and son Strider. Services will be held at 12 p. m. Thursday, April 27, 2023 at the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Ranson, WV with Pastor Gene Spinks officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, WV. Friends will be received from 11 a. m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home.
