Mary Menicucci

Mary Menicucci

Age - 94

December 9, 2023

After a long and beautiful life, Mary C. Menicucci passed peacefully in her home on Sunday, December 3, 2023. She was born in Albuquerque at St. Joseph's Hospital on November 29, 1929, to Letizia and Maggiorino Nicola, who had recently immigrated from Northern Italy. Mary grew up helping her parents in their grocery store on Bellamah and 4th Street and attended school at St. Mary's Catholic School. There she met her dearest friends, Anita, Theresa, Jean, and Peggy, and journeyed through life's ups and downs with them. She met Dante J. Menicucci at Immaculate Conception Church and embarked on a 57-year marriage. He was her beloved partner and together they lovingly raised a family, practiced their Catholic faith with devotion and humility, opened their home to friends, relatives, and their children's friends, and traveled around the US, Canada, and Italy. They never missed a child's game or event and strived to attend the numerous school and life events of their nine busy grandchildren. Mary made her home the family hub and, with Dante, hosted many abundant Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, the latter featuring amazing, home-made ravioli. Mary was a caretaker, nurturer, and leader who channeled those gifts into five decades of work as a counselor for Birthright, where she and the other counselors provided guidance and support to pregnant women who were facing difficult choices. She served as the director and co-director of the Albuquerque Birthright and a Regional Consultant assisting Birthrights throughout New Mexico. In 2021, Birthright International gave her the Louise Summerhill Pinnacle Award for her service and dedication. In the 70s and 80s, she helped form a home for unwed mothers and served on the board of Chaparral adoption agency. Mary is survived by her five children, Michael Menicucci (Debbie), Anne Menicucci, Tom Menicucci (Kathy), Margaret Menicucci (Michael Whellan), and Joseph Menicucci (Connie); nine grandchildren, Steven (Kristin Snopkowski), Shawn (Brittany), Sarah, Christopher (Anastasha), Jimmie, Jacob, and Lucas Menicucci, and Alexis and Hannah Whellan; and three great-grandchildren, Bryce, Kasen, and Colton Menicucci. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dante J. Menicucci; her parents, Maggiorino and Letizia Nicola; and her dear cousin, Aldo Vaio, whom she loved as a brother. The family worked together to ensure that she could live comfortably in these final years, with Tom and Anne especially devoting time to her medical care and companionship. The family is grateful for the assistance of several loving caregivers to Mary, including the Sisters and staff from Our Lady of Guadalupe Home Health Care and Irene Lopez, Yolanda Gonzales, Donna Palmer, and Kristina Taminich. A Visitation and the Recitation of the Rosary will be held Thursday, December 14, 2023, 10:00 a. m. , followed by the Celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a. m. , all at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE. Interment will occur at 1:00 p. m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Birthright of Albuquerque.Show more

Bell has left us to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Bell was known and loved by many. Bell is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne R. Haulman; her parents, John and Amelia Vigil; her son Roger Chris Avila; and her great granddaughter Jaylene Marez. Isabel was affectionately known as Ms. Bell while she worked at Alamosa Elementary School as a teachers’ aide for many years where her smile, love and sense of humor affected everyone. She then worked at Coronado School as an office aide. In 1991 Bell was diagnosed with Acute Promyelo Cytic Leukemia and underwent chemo therapy. In 1992 she relapsed and received a bone morrow transplant at Fred Hutchison Cancer Center, in Seattle, Washington. Bell spent many painful hours with chemo and radiation treatments at the hospital. Bell was released to recover with further treatments at home in New Mexico. In 1993 Bell relapsed again and went to the Tucson Cancer Center in Tuscon, Arizona for stem cell transfusions. They were successful and Bell remained Cancer free until her passing. In 1994 she was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor to be monitored. In 2013, while visiting in California with her sister, Mary, she was operated on and as much of the tumor was removed; with no guarantees that it would not return. But it did, and that made a difference in her life. She suffered with cancer; undiagnosed diabetes (she lost her eyesight); and a brain tumor; she lost her coordination, her speech, her cognitivity and the ability to drive and enjoy activities that she had previously loved to do with her grandchildren. In 2021 Bell had a bad fall at her home and was hospitalized with rehab and lived with her sister Anna and her husband Gabe for the last two years, five months of her life. Jan leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Becky. They have 2 sons Hunter & Mack. Hunter married Megan this year and they blessed Jan and Becky with their first grandchild. Hunter, Megan and Reece Weaver make their home in Albuquerque. Mack has made his home in Phoenix for several years. Jan’s greatest pride and joy were Hunter and Mack and he held them fiercely in his heart. Sweet baby Reece’s arrival in 2022 was a godsend. Reece brought happy days into Jan’s world at a time when his health was waning, and joyfulness was fleeting. Jan’s brother, Scott and sister, Cindy both reside in Las Cruces, NM. His parents are both deceased. Jan worked for UPS for 37 years as a delivery driver. Most of his time at UPS was spent delivering a rural route including Mountainaire, Vaughn, Encino, Willard, and Torreon. He enjoyed his work and developed long lasting relationships with his UPS colleagues as well as the families and businesses he delivered to. The Weaver’s wish to acknowledge the healthcare and hospice professionals that have cared for Jan over the past several years. The cancer team at Rust Presbyterian Cancer Center began this journey with Jan and saw him through his diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy treatments. His hospice team from Presbyterian Hospice include Laurie, RN and Shanna, Certified Nursing Assistant. Laurie and Shanna spent endless hours caring for Jan and supporting Becky. Jan was grateful to both for their care, compassion and sporting conversations. Jan’s memory was unquestionable and keenly sharp up until his passing - especially his recall of all thing’s sports. He could elaborate on all sports stats & trivia with almost pinpoint accuracy. He loved his Lobos and Pittsburgh Steelers. College sports were his favorite level of play - from fall football to March Madness. Jan’s final arrangements are being handled through Daniels Funeral Home. The family will welcome friends to their home later. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation. We love you Jan, you will be missed by many, and we will hold you in our hearts for a lifetime.Show more

Daniel Duran

Age - 39

December 9, 2023

Our Daniel passed away December 1st due to complications of Diabetes. He leaves us with a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. Those who knew him knew he was a very loving and caring person. He was so charismatic. He got so much joy from making everyone around him laugh, his timing was pretty darn good! He was a jokester and relished it! Daniel adored all his family. He touched so many lives and made an impact on everyone who met him. Daniel was a seasoned bicycler, often riding in some of the city cycling events. He was also an incredible snowboarder; he loved that sport most of all! He enjoyed the outdoors: camping, fishing, and boating. For his short time with us, he lived a very full life. He was able to travel with his family to many places, even out of the country. He is already greatly missed by everyone he touched! Daniel is preceded in death by his father LeRoy E. Duran Sr. , his grandparents Robert & Viola Aragon and Emily Duran. He is survived by his two sons Noah & Orian Duran, his parents Shawn & Darlene Mondragon, his brother and hero LeRoy Duran Jr. , his Grandfather Ben Duran Sr. , his very special Aunt and Uncles Adrian & Judy Romero, and his Uncle Ted Candelaria, his cousins Jennifer Tapia and Chris Romero, along with his very best friend Gray Smith. He also held a very special place for Uncle Tony & Aunt Anita Casale. If Daniel could say something to comfort all of us right now, this is what he would say: "I just wanted to let you all know - I made it home! My journey to arrive here wasn’t an easy one, but it didn’t take too long. I had so many family members who arrived before me, waiting with open arms! The hugs, love and kisses were so amazing! It was such a celebration! I wish you all could have seen it! Everything is wonderful here! It’s so fresh and new! Try not to cry and feel sad for me, just try to understand that God is now personally taking care of me. Mama, get some rest, you took such good care of me all my life! I’m in the shelter of His hands. Here in God’s presence, there is no sadness, no sorrow, and no pain. With my Lord and Savior, there is no crying, and I’ll never hurt again. It is so peaceful here. Sorry to make this so short, but I must go for now. I can’t wait to try out these wings! Always remember, I will never be too far from you. If you need me, just whisper my name, and I will be right beside you with my usual smile! Until we are all together again, please carry me in your heart, and know I am forever with you. I love you all so very much! Don’t ever forget that…. . PS JESUS CHRIST! These wings are REALLY awesome! What? Oh! My bad…. sorry dude…. "Show more

Quirino Romero

Quirino Romero

Age - 60

December 9, 2023

Quirino Miguel "Mike" Romero, the sixth of twelve children, was born in Lubbock, TX, on September 12, 1963. To the late Paul and Carmen Romero of Corona, NM. He peacefully passed away in Albuquerque, NM, on December 3, 2023 following a lengthy decline in his health. Raised in Corona, Mike attended Corona Public School and soon after ventured out to pursue a vocation in commercial constructionism as an iron worker. Over several years, he traveled extensively to numerous job sites around the country, often with his brothers alongside for shared work and camaraderie. He later returned to Corona and built a quaint bungalow for himself. It was here he found the most peace and comfort. . . the warm character of his home was truly his safe haven! Above all, Mike cherished his relationships with family and friends. He celebrated in their joy, shared in their struggles, and mourned when they mourned. One close friend shared, "When you befriended Mike, you had a friend for life. " Another agreed, saying, "He was a good brother and I will miss him. " His heart was full of love, and when he relinquished his temperament to hurt, weariness and frustration, his remorse was genuine and sincere. Love and forgiveness were his vanguard of his final days, as he was determined to reconcile differences with the ones he loved before his passing. Although he chose a life of quiet solitude, when he did come out of his shell, he was a funny and animated guy who appreciated good food, humorous jokes, 80s music, fast cars and old-school motorcycles. Leisure afternoon cruising in and around the many small communities surrounding Corona was enjoyable for Mike; however, it was the many relationships he had with people across the miles that made him most happy! Each year Mike would also frequent the Lemitar and Roswell areas to seek out the hottest of New Mexico's fall chili harvest. For Mike, the hotter the chili, the better - he reveled in a mouth on fire! It was common for him to prepare green chili dishes for family and friends who could handle the dynamite heat. At various points in his life, Mike's spiritual journey was hindered by pain and suffering, thus hard-won. As a young boy, he was introduced to the Christian faith but later parted ways with the church; however, he always cherished God's Scripture. In his final years, he earnestly considered his faith and developed a deeper relationship with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mike's salvation gives the family peace; God's promise of everlasting life blesses them with hope. Mike is survived by brothers Paul [Laticia], Danny [Deneen], Jessie, and George; sisters Maria Dearing [Chris], Alvina Holleyman [Lon], and Joanna Romero [Angelica];nephews Nicholas Hollifield and Matthew Alirez; nieces Brianna Dearing, Courtney Dearing, Meriah Holleyman, Angelica Alirez, Angelina Romero, Samantha Alirez, Malena Collier, and numerous extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Quirino Antunez; maternal grandmother Florinda Montoya; paternal Grandmother Maria Guadalupe Romero; parents Paul and Carmen Romero; brothers Alvie, Floyd Jr. , Herman, and Anthony; uncle Quirino Antunez; foster mom, Rosa Bustamante; nephews Nathan, Arturo, and Isaac Alirez; and a host of other siblings and extended relatives. The Romero Family deeply appreciates the generous thoughts and prayers poured out over Mike and for our family in recent weeks. Additionally, the visits and phone calls he received during the final days of his life were a tremendous source of joy, peace, and comfort to him - a deep and heartfelt "thank you" to you all. There will be a celebration of Mike's life held in Corona on May 4, 2024 at 2pm followed by a graveside service at the Corona Cemetery on May 5, 2024 at 10 am.Show more
