Richard Floyd Kemp, age 83, of High Point, North Carolina, passed away on February 16, 2024. He was born on December 22, 1940, and left behind a legacy filled with accomplishments, laughter, and love. Richard was a quick-witted individual who thrived on one-liners, bringing joy and humor to those around him. He was a devoted husband to Beverly H. Kemp, and together they shared a journey of love and companionship since their marriage in December 1962. Richard earned a Bachelor's Degree from Lenoir Rhyne and a Master's Degree from East Carolina University. His passion for football led to a remarkable college career, where he achieved numerous accolades, including being named N.A.I.A All-American in 1961 and 1962, Associated Press All-American in 1962, and receiving the Kirkland Blocking Trophy in 1962. Rickard was not only a Conference Most Valuable Player in 1961 but also held impressive career records in rushing, passing, and points. Participating in three National Championship games and achieving a remarkable college record of 40 wins, 3 losses, and 2 ties, Richard left an indelible mark on the football field. His dedication extended to coaching, where he garnered seven Conference Championships, three State Championships, and was named NC High School Coach of the Year in 1974. As the only Southeast Guilford High School coach to go undefeated in the state playoffs, Richard’s coaching prowess was undeniable. Transitioning to the college level, Richard contributed to the NC State Football Coaching Staff from 1975 to 1977 and the Duke University Football Coaching Staff from 1977 to 1979. His commitment and service were recognized with the Jaycee Distinguished Service Award. Beyond his achievements, Richard found solace in his favorite hobby, golf. He leaves behind cherished memories and will be dearly missed by his wife Beverly, sons Rick and wife Martha and Cecil and wife Lisa, and his four grandchildren Emma, Jake, Luke, and Sadie. In celebrating the life of Richard Floyd Kemp, let us remember the joy he brought to others, the wisdom he shared, and the legacy he leaves behind. TRINITY – Johnnie Steven Jarrett, 75, died Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Hospice Home at High Point. He was born August 22, 1948, in Thomasville and was the son of the late James Franklin and Bertie Jane Freeman Jarrett. He was a member of Trinity Memorial United Methodist Church and was a mechanic for many years. Johnnie enjoyed riding his motorcycle and loved mowing his lawn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Royals Jarrett; three sisters, Becky Floyd, Marion Carol Turner and Ann Dallman; and two brothers, Wayne Jarrett and Marty Jarrett. Johnnie is survived by four sisters, Ruby Hazelwood of Archdale, Sharon “Judy” Barnes of Trinity, Kay Younger of Sanford, and Brenda Hynes (Bill) of Thomasville; two brothers, Jerry Jarrett of Archdale and Garland Jarrett (Teresa) of Thomasville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside service celebrating Johnnie’s life will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Tim Webster officiating. The family will speak with friends at the cemetery immediately following the service on Wednesday. Ronald “Ron” Paul Halvorsen, II, 59, of High Point, formerly of Asheville, passed away, on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at his home. He was born on April 14, 1964 in Madison, WI. In childhood, Ron attended the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy in Bay Hill, FL, and was an exceptional golfer throughout his life. He was also remarkably talented in other sports including darts, tennis, disc golf, bowling, and skiing. Ron attended the University of Texas at Austin where he met the love of his life and wife of 35 years. He later attended Southern New Hampshire University, and obtained his Master’s degree. Ron was known as a kind, compassionate, intelligent, and extremely generous person. He was an avid reader and was knowledgeable in many subjects. A true boy scout at heart, he was always prepared for challenges in life. He had an adventurous spirit and traveled extensively with his wife. Ron’s main focus in life was his family. Together with his wife, Patty, they raised 2 children, John and Jeannie. He instilled in them the values of dedication, compassion, and love. Ron was also a proud grandfather of his 3 grandsons, Henry, Dean, and Roman. Ron was preceded in death by his father, John Halvorsen, and survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Halvorsen; his son and daughter-in-law, John Halvorsen, II, and Lena Ee; his daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Michael Berg; his grandsons, Henry and Dean Halvorsen, and Roman Berg; his mother, Karen Pasquale; and his sisters, Deborah Gidney and Susan Butler. A service of remembrance will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. Ruby Cashion Wright

Ruby Wright, loving wife, devoted mother, exceptional educator, and amazing friend, Ruby Cashion Wright sadly passed away January 2, 2024, at the age of 92 after battling increasingly challenging health issues. She was born in High Point, North Carolina on September 29,1931. She was predeceased by her parents Loy Green Cashion and Beatrice Prather Cashion, her beloved husband of 62 years, Hubert “Beefy” Wright, and her two sons, Ted and Tommy Wright. Ruby was a graduate of Allen Jay High School and continued her education at High Point College. Ruby and Beefy accepted teaching positions in Florida. There, she primarily taught 5th grade. Ruby received her Masters in Administration Education at the University Of South Florida. She was one of the first Curriculum Specialists in Hillsborough County, Florida. In the mid 1970s, she became an administrator. She was principal of three different elementary schools until retirement. An active community member and volunteer after retirement, Ruby immersed herself in volunteer projects such as numerous church committees, volunteering along with Beefy at the outpatient surgery unit at the High Point Hospital, and numerous community projects. In addition, she volunteered as a Guardian Ad litem gathering and reporting factual information that helped the court make custody, visitation, and other decisions affecting foster children’s welfare. Mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Ruby was always there for all her children when they needed her. Her greatest joy in life was hearing about her children’s work accomplishments and travel experiences. She especially enjoyed sharing teaching experience with her daughters who were both teachers. In addition, she loved hearing about her great grandchildren’s ball games, dance recital, and plays. Ruby is survived by her brother, LG Cashion, Jr : her daughters, Pam Wright Kennedy (Bruce), Terri Wright Nathanson (Marc), grandsons, Steven Kennedy (Sara), Scott Kennedy (Kimberly), Shannon Wright, Cashion Wright, Sean Wright, and 10 great grandchildren. There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 10:30 am at the Springfield Friends Meeting, 555 East Springfield Road, High Point, NC 27263.
