Donald Wood

Donald Wood

Age - 88

October 30, 2023

A man's greatest possession is his dignity and farming bestows this like few other professions. Hard work is the building block of a person's character. Farming nurtures the close family ties that make life rich in ways money can't buy and generations learn values for a lifetime that can be learned in no other way. Farming teaches much about birth, growth and maturity in such a variety of ways and that the best things in life are indeed free; the splendor of a sunrise, the rapture of wide-open spaces, the sight of your land greening each spring. Some of life's happiest moments come from watching the crops ripen, the children growing and a family's pride. And how blessed our lives are to have such dedicated, passionate farmers in our beautiful valley, including Donald M. Wood, of Middleburgh. Who, until finding eternal peace on Saturday, October 28, 2023, loved and gave his all to his family and his land, that held such special places in his heart. Don was born 88 years ago in Albany, on July 3, 1935 to Florence (Hoffman) and Martin Wood and graduated from Middleburgh Central School. He was married on November 2, 1958 to his wife and soulmate, Lolita (Federico) who will forever love and cherish their life together and the memories they made, not only on the farm, but traveling the country. Together, they explored all of the 50 States, lastly Rhode Island. And Don's passion for hunting led him on many trips out west and into Canada with his sons. He loved raising chickens too and rarely missed cheering for his Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Mets. With Lolita, loving Don forever are his sons: Donald (Jacqueline) Wood and James (Kris) Wood; grandchildren: Megan (Scott) Hassick, Tara Emily (Joseph) Rich, Jenna (Benjamin) Brand, Kendra (Landon) DuPont, great-granddaughter: Harper Hassick sister: Barbara Hartman; extended family members: Bill Moorhead (Sarah Livingston) and Ashley Moorhead. Along with his parents, Don was predeceased by his niece: Vicki Moorhead. A memorial service will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC 134 River Street, Middleburgh, NY.
