Obituary of John Stewart Star - John Bentley Stewart (Benny), age 73, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at FirstHealth Moore Regional in Pinehurst. Mr. Stewart was born in Montgomery County on December 6, 1945, to John G. and Lois Dunn Stewart. He was a graduate of East Montgomery High School, RTC (automotive mechanics), and MCC (taxidermy). He was a Little League coach, women's softball coach, and a Boy Scout leader of Troop 111. Benny was a retired textile worker, TexRacing employee, and a veteran of the US Air Force, where he was a jet engine mechanic during the Vietnam War. He was an elder at Star Presbyterian Church, served on the Star Town Board, and on Holiday Shores Homeowner's Association board. Benny loved nature and animals; he loved birdwatching, fishing, and photography. He also knitted and enjoyed woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Carol Williams Stewart, of the home; daughter, Cynthia Martin and husband, Hugh, of Biscoe; son, John B. Stewart II (Ben) and wife, Stephanie, of Burgaw; grandchildren, Carson Martin, Eli Martin, Daniel Martin, Stacey Taylor and husband, Jonathan, Chris Savage and wife, Kristina, Katy Stewart and fiance, Joey Treto; great-grandchildren, Reed Savage and Lacey Savage; and fur babies, Roxy and Tess. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 16, at Star Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Kim Stamey officiating.
