John Smith Obituary

John Edgar Smith, age 65, of Hanover, Indiana, and son of the late Howard and Judy (Morris) Smith, was born on December 9, 1957, in Salem, Ohio. On December 16, 1976, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and faithfully served until he was honorably discharged in May of 1980. He retired in 2010 as the manager of the Batesville Food Mart. In his spare time, he loved music, audio books, teaching Bible study, and spending time with his family. Mr. Smith passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Norton King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana. His life will be cherished by his siblings: Steve Smith, of Hamilton, Ohio, Joe Smith, of Greensburg, Indiana, Lisa Frazier and her husband, Anthony "Myrel" of Shelbyville, Indiana, and Dean Smith, of Hamilton; his half-sister: Jennifer Welch of West Harrison, Indiana; his step-siblings: Lori, Lynn, Lisa Kay, and Nelson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law: Pam Smith and Sue Smith. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, on Madison's hilltop with interment to follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 12:00 PM until the time of the service on Thursday.
