CAROL HORGROW MORANT was born July 15, 1972, in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Robert and Myrtis Horgrow. In addition to her father she is preceded in death by her oldest son Johnny L. Beverly III her brother Carl, and favorite brother-in-law, Alvarez. Carol leaves in her passing her husband of twenty-three years, John P. Morant, her son Graysen Morant, her daughter Riley Morant and her canine companion, Piper; six siblings, Michael, Deena, Wendell, Barbara, Elise, and David (Glynette), respectively; her uncle and aunt who are like a mom and dad to her, Simon and Alice Horgrow; her special niece Shannon Dixon; and her “sister cousin” Katrina (Pedro) Castelow. Also, her best friend for 47 years Alida Curry, and her mentor Ammer (Bill) Anderson; a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, and special nieces and nephews that we picked up from our kids along the way. Carol was witty, smart, very resourceful and creative. She loved decorating and helping others. Carol will be missed heavily by all who loved her dearly!

Shane Witsell, age 47 passed away on February 14, 2024 after a long illness at home. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Rose and Burley B. Stults, Jr., Roland and Betty Witsell and Patricia Cole. He leaves behind his parents, Milton and Dianne Witsell; three children, Alexis Witsell of Clearwater, FL, Matthew Witsell of Arlington, TN and Jackson Witsell of Bartlett, TN. He had many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was raised in Bartlett, TN and Brunswick, TN. Shane attended Bolton High School. He loved The Green Bay Packers, and The New York Mets. He loved his labrador and she is named Lambeau after Lambeau field home of the Green Bay Packers. He also loved to fish and hunt. His memorial will be held March 23rd at Highland Heights Presbyterian Church. Visitation is 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The service will begin at 11:00. GEORGE LEE ALSUP, SR. George Lee Alsup, Sr. 95, of Bartlett, TN passed away peacefully at home on February 15, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born October 6, 1928, in Bassfield, MS, the only child of Jack and Ella Mae Alsup. He grew up in and attended school in Vicksburg, MS He met and married Leona McCowan in Oak Grove, LA on August 16, 1946. They lived in Lufkin, TX briefly before moving to Bartlett, TN in 1949, where they lived until their death. George died of a broken heart two days after his bride of 76 years. George started working at the Commercial Appeal as a printer in 1949 and moved up the ranks and retired in Dec. 1994 as a foreman of the composing room. He always said, “he put the paper to bed”. Mr. Alsup was preceded in death by his parents, his son, George Lee (Butch) Alsup, Jr., and his wife Leona. A graveside service will be at 2:00 on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at the Forest Hill cemetery in Bartlett, TN with Rev. Billy Dempsey officiating. Forest Hill Funeral Home is in charge of his arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Singleton Community Center. "Patricia “Pat” Gray Cohen, 70, of Bartlett, TN, died on February 7, 2024 following a courageous battle against cancer. She passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richie Cohen, and her parents, James “JT” and Marian Gray. She leaves her daughter, Erin Kelly of Memphis; her granddaughter, Madeline Hooper of Memphis; her brothers and sisters-in-laws, Jim and Linda Gray of Ramer, TN, and Bob and Joanne Gray of Daphne, AL; a stepson, Jesse Cohen; her friends and neighbors who became like family, Mrs. Sharon and Mr. John; her four-legged fur babies, Oliver the Great and Princess Leia; her parakeet, Pat the Bird; and a host of friends and extended family members. Born June 24, 1953 in Memphis, Pat attended St. Theresa-Little Flower School and graduated from Immaculate Conception Cathedral High School in 1971. She worked for 40 years at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Cotton Division and retired in 2019. She and Richie were also successful restaurateurs, operating Bubba’s Ale House on Highway 64 and Lefty’s Sports Pub on Summer Avenue. Pat was a devout Catholic and took her faith very seriously. She was a parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bartlett and served on the Finance Council. She also was a dedicated volunteer for several service and philanthropic organizations in the community, including The Humane Society of Memphis, the Streetdog Foundation and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at St. Michael Church. She loved traveling with friends, crocheting hats for other cancer patients, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, February 23 from 1-2 p.m. at Canale Funeral Directors, 2700 Union Avenue Ext. in Memphis with a memorial service at 2 p.m. The service will be followed by a reception and celebration of life at Neil’s Music Room, 5725 Quince from 3-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to the Memphis \u0026amp; Shelby County Humane Society, Society of St. Vincent de Paul Food Mission, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or a charity of the donor’s choice."

Leona McCowan Alsup, 92, of Bartlett, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home on February 13, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born in Forest, LA, on August 12, 1931, the second child of parents, John and Myrtle McCowan. She married George Alsup, Sr. On August 16, 1947. They lived in Lufkin, TX briefly before moving to Bartlett, TN in 1949 where they made their home until her death. Leona was a homemaker who spent her time being a loving mom to her two children, Betty and Butch. She was active in the local school PTA and was elected the State Secretary of the Tennessee PTA one year. She was active in school carnivals and musical productions and plays when her children were in school. Mrs. Alsup was known as the neighborhood “mom” for years. Leona and George had 76 wonderful years together. She is survived by her husband, George Alsup; her daughter, Betty Alsup; and daughter-in-law, Dale Alsup. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Richard Strickland, Virgil Alsup (Kim), Sumer Dempsey (Scooter), Chris Milliorn (Amy), Angie Clayton (Bobby), and ten great-grandchildren. Mrs. Alsup was preceded in death by her parents, her three siblings, and her son, George Lee (Butch) Alsup, Jr. A graveside service will be at 11:00 on Friday, February 16, 2024 at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, TN with Rev. "Barry Austin Bolding of Brighton, Tennessee, Passed from this life on February 4, 2024 at St. Francis Bartlett. Barry was born March 18, 1957, in Memphis, Tennessee. Barry enjoyed life outdoors, including fishing, hunting, golf, and, more recently, swinging and waving to the passing traffic. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved college football and basketball. He never had children, but he had golden retriever fur babies that he adored, he has now been reunited with all three: Savannah, Smokey, and Gator. Barry is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Bernice M. Bolding and Marjorie Austin Bolding, and Sister Barbara Timbs. He is survived by his family, nieces Sharon Timbs, Mary Beth Taylor (Curtis), Lydia Smith (Rick), Rebekah Davis (Bishop), and One Nephew Micah Timbs, along with one great nephew and two great nieces, along with many cousins. Barry is also survived by his friends Bill \u0026amp; Alicia Yarbrough, who helped the family care for Barry until his passing as well as his friend Robin Koenig. Graveside services will be held Friday, February 16, 2024 at Maury City Cemetery in Maury City, Tennessee at 1pm Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home will oversee the services and Bro. John McMullen will be officiating."

Gordon Lee Jones Sr., 86, passed away Saturday February 10, 2024. Gordon was born July 21, 1937 in Memphis, TN He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest Rebel Jones and Helen Bess Hartman Jones and two brothers Forrest Robert Jones Sr. and Leonard Eugene Jones Sr., late wife Betty Jean Houlihan Jones and son in law, Wallace Moll. Gordon attended Merrill and Gordon Elementary Schools Memphis, TN and Graduated High School Humes High School 1956 Memphis, TN. He attended Memphis State University, State Tech Institute, Southwest Community College, and Auburn University Extension Center-Montgomery Alabama. He served 8 years in US Army National Guard, and US Army Reserve. Received Honorable Discharge in 1963. Gordon and Late wife Betty Jean Houlihan Jones are parents of: Gordon Lee Jones Jr. (Tammy) Freeport, FL, David Allen Jones (Michelle) Hope Hull, AL and Angela Diane Moll Franklin, TN. He is survived by his wife, Jean Hodge Jones, four Grandchildren; Michael Andrew Jones, Christopher Allen Jones, Presley Jean Moll, and Peyton Wallis Moll, several nephews and nieces. Stepmother-Pauline Jones Collierville, TN. and five half brothers and sisters. In Memphis TN at the age of 8, He started helping a friend with the Press Scimitar Paper Route. He helped throw the paper on Monday thru Friday and was paid $1 a week. The bus fare was 7c. At that time movies were .10c, bar of candy was .5c, cokes were a nickel, and he could do a lot with the dollar. At the age of 11, He took over the paper route and when he was 16, he got his first Commercial Appeal route and had that route until he was 19. Gordon began working in Data Processing in March 1957 and at that time the information was punched into cards and that was fed into the tabulating equipment. Also, there were boards wired that was used for various type of card processing equipment that was used to print reports. There were very few computers at that time. Mostly the large companies and the military had large computer equipment. Later into the 1960's computers were available for smaller companies and as a result started migrating from punched card technology. Started as a tabulating equipment operator then moved into Computer Programming in the early 1960's and eventually held positions as Systems Analysts, Data Processing Manager, Information System Manager. Worked for Gray Mercantile, Memphis TN. Blount Construction Company-Montgomery Ala, Hunter Fan, Leader Federal Savings & Loan Memphis TN, Witt (Carrier Corp.) Manufacturing in Collierville, TN. Retired from Shelby County Government in 2005. Gordon performed contract programming for various companies in Memphis. Instructor of Computer Programming courses during evening hours at State Tech Institute in Memphis, TN from 1982- 1993. The entire 48 years of working experience was in Data Processing and Information Technology. After retiring in 2005, he started volunteering for the Collierville, TN police department as a Citizens Volunteer Program. During that time, Gordon was asked to work on Special Projects for the Police Department that required systems design and programming techniques. Worked with several personnel within the police department to accomplish the desired results. Received an award for designing those forms and reports, for it saved the Police Department several thousand-man hours. Gordon retired March of 2023 after 18 years of Volunteer Service. He established a CVP Photo History book that went back to 1993 when the CVP program began. This has been updated since it started in June of 2015. He was a member of Speedway Terrace Baptist Church 1946-1957. Baptized in 1953 by Pastor Dr. Mark Harris. Leawood Baptist Church Memphis, TN 1958-1960. Eastern Hills Baptist Church Montgomery Alabama 1960-1969. Ardmore Baptist Church Memphis, TN 1969-1986. Coached little league baseball for several years for the church team. He served as an Usher at Germantown Baptist Church 2004-2009. He was currently member of Faith Baptist Church Bartlett. Gordon enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling to Italy, Israel, Florida, Alaska, and other places of interest, playing guitar and singing Bluegrass and Country Music with wife, Jean. Gordon was a member of following: Data Processing Management Association, Memphis Area Blue Grass Association and the Lakeland, TN Senior Center Musicians, and Citizens Volunteer Program for the Police Department in Collierville, TN January 2005-2023. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 15, from 1:00 pm until funeral services begin at 2:00. All services will be held at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, Bartlett TN 38133. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
