Miss Laurie Anne Burt, 64, of Spring Street, Fort Plain, NY, passed away at her home on February 27, 2024. Laurie was born in Staten Island, NY, on May 3, 1959, the daughter of Henry Burt and Loretta Sue Lollis Burt, who predeceased her in death. Laurie graduated from Tantasqua High School in Sturbridge, Mass., and attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 1988, she moved to the area, previously residing in Sturbridge, Mass. Most recently, she had worked at Lee Publications. She attended the Valley Alliance Church in Nelliston and enjoyed gardening, knitting, and weaving. Her brother, Henry "Hank" Burt, II, predeceased her on May 26, 2021. She is survived by her brother David L. Burt, nephew Nick, and several cousins. Cremation is under the direction of the Fort Plain Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. Thelma J. Reid, 89, of Hancock Street, Fort Plain, NY died at her home on February 15th, 2024 with her loving family. She was born on Canajoharie, NY on September 6, 1934, the daughter of the late Clifford Crouse Sr., and Hazel Benton Crouse. She attended Canajoharie High School. She retired from Beech-Nut in Canajoharie as a production worker, and prior to Beech-Nut she had worked at the Clyde Banks Knitting Mill. Everyone that knew her will remember how much she enjoyed garage saleing, going to Wal-Mart, and being with her grandchildren. On June 19, 1954 at the former St. Johns's Lutheran Church in Canajoahrie, she married James F. Reid. He predeceased her on May 23, 2004. She was also predeceased by her daughter Darlene Green, son Danny Reid, 3 of her brothers, Clifford, Kenneth and Harvey; and her sister Marion. Survivors include her sons, Dennis and Kathy Reid, Ralph and Cindy Reid, Richard and Debbie Reid, Michael and Loretta Reid; daughters Diane Weaver, Debra Reid, Dale and Brad Nichols; her brother Gary Crouse; grandchildren Nicole, Nicholas, Shane, Greg, Brian, Josh, Joe, Eric, Keith, Michael, Clorissa, Alan Jr., Cory, Tammy, Brian, James, Kayla, Daniel, Heather, Jennifer, Francis, and Karla; many great grandchildren; and great great granddaughter; nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will recieve freinds and relatives on Monday February 19th, from 2:00-4:00PM, with a funeral following at 4:00, at the Fort Plain Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. In the loving memory of Richard E. Herb Jr. (87), we are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend on November 17, 2023, where he was surrounded by family after a brief illness. Richard, known as Dick to those that knew him, was born in Amsterdam, NY but was a life-long resident of Fort Plain, NY. He served his country in the US Air Force - Strategic Air Command following high school before returning to the Mohawk Valley where he married Myrna Beck in 1963. He was employed at Central National Bank for over 25 yrs. before retiring in 1991. He was an active member in his local community serving on the volunteer FP Fire dept and Lions Club. He led a full and vibrant retirement socializing, traveling across the US and abroad while spending time with his friends & family. He was a talented athlete who enjoyed sports throughout his life particularly tennis and golf during his later years. Dick is survived by his wife of 60 yrs. Myrna, three children, Rob (and wife Susan), Teresa (and husband Rick) and Michele (and husband Bill) and five grandsons (Chris, Mike, Ryan, Garrett & Brandon). Plans are pending for a Celebration of Dick’s life will take place on Saturday, June 8th, at 12:00 Noon at the Fort Plain Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. . Mr. Robert P. Prevost, 65, of Fort Plain, NY, died on February 6, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital following a battle with lung cancer. Robert was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on November 21, 1958, the son of Robert Prevost and Joan Lyons Prevost, who predeceased him. In 1976, he graduated from Franklin Academy in Malone, NY. For the past 30-plus years, he has lived here in the Fort Plain area. Before that, he lived in Saranac Lake. He worked in various companies in the area as a printer. He was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed NASCAR, Led Zeplin, and mainly any sport, but was especially fond of the NY Yankees and the Green Bay Packers. Besides his parents, he is preceded by his two brothers, Brett and Kurt Prevost. Survivors include his estranged wife, Jacqueline Prevost; sons Robert Prevost, Chad Prevost, and Kristopher Prevost and fiance Whitney Masi; grandchildren Derek, Mykenzie, Penelope, Elijah, and Brooke; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services. Cremation is under the direction of Fort Plain Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of one's choice.

Mr. Michael D. Mullis, 59, of Willett Street, Fort Plain, NY, died on January 26, 2024, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House. Mike was born in Jacksonville, FL, on September 12, 1964. He was educated in Florida and moved to the local area in 1989. He was most recently employed as a drywaller at Bill Lake Homes, Sprakers, NY. He was an avid fisherman in his spare time, but also enjoyed camping, hiking, being outdoors, and hunting in the past few years. He is survived by his son, Michael J. (Jade) Mullis, and Eric Mullis, as well as many friends. Following his wishes, cremation is handled through the Fort Plain Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. A Celebration of Mike's life will be held in the spring at a date and time to be determined. Karl Skip Swartz, Jr.

Karl "Skip" Swartz, Jr., 65, of State Route 80, Fort Plain, NY, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on the early evening of January 24, 2024. Karl was born on March 27, 1958, in Little Falls, NY, the son of Karl S. Swartz, Sr and Marjorie I. Smith Swartz. In 1976, Karl graduated from Fort Plain High School and lived his entire life in the local area. He enjoyed working at the family farm, Stone Bottom Farm, and as a herdsman at many area farms. He also was employed at the Walmart Distribution Center, from which he retired in 2020. Karl was an active member of the Canajoharie Fort Plain Elks Lodge, # 2621, where he held many offices and supported the lodge through many hours of work in any place he was needed to make sure everything went like it was supposed to. He was past exalted ruler and elk of the year among his many honors. When he was younger, he enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, and softball. Everyone who knew him knew of his generosity towards others but knew his world revolved around his family, with a special place for his daughter and grandson, Carter. On August 27, 1983, at the Marshville Evangelical Church, he married the former Nancy Blair, who survives. His parents and sister, Sandra L. Swartz, predeceased him in 1959. Survivors include his wife, Nancy K. Swartz; daughter Nicki and her husband, Mark Hubal; sisters Vicki and her husband, Donald Lambert and Sally and her husband, Andrew Smith; his grandson Carter Hubal; his loving K-( companion Baily; and several nieces nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends and relatives from 4:00-6:00 PM on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. The Elks will perform their service at 6:00 PM, followed by a memorial service with Rev. Nancy Ryan officiating. After the memorial service, everyone will be welcomed at the Canajoharie Fort Plain Elks Lodge, Old Station Rd, Nelliston, NY 13410. Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring. Mr. Stanley W. Carson, 85, of Highland Terrace, Fort Plain, NY, died on January 9th, 2024. Stanley spent most of his life in the local area. He attended Nelliston 1st School and graduated from Fort Plain High School. After graduation, he held several jobs in the local area until he settled into a position at Beech-Nut in Canajoharie, until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed riding with MidCounty Vol. Ambulance, and was a member of the Fort Plain Masonic Lodge, #433. His parents and sister predeceased him. In the spring of 2024, a graveside service will be held at Fort Plain Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his parents as he requested. His arrangments are under the direction of Fort Plain Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.

John "Jack" McGovern

Mr. John "Jack" McGovern, 80, of Starkville Road, Fort Plain, NY, died at the Palatine Nursing Home on January 7, 2024. Born on June 22, 1943, he was the son of Beverly "Bud" and Doris Brooker McGovern, who predeceased him. Jack was of Catholic Faith and enjoyed riding around with his brother Ronnie and spending time with his family. Jack also helped Mike in his welding shop for 25 years. On September 25, 1971, in Canajoharie, NY, at the bride's parents' home, he married Debra A. Frank. Together, they celebrated 42 years of marriage until her passing on September 25, 2013. He was predeceased by his brother, Barry McGovern. Jack is survived by his son Mike McGovern and his wife Melissa; daughter Jeanne McGovern and her husband Jason Osness, brother Ronnie McGovern, sister Barbara McGovern, Terry McGovern, sister Mary Roman, Joanne Jordan; grandson Marshal Osness, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the chapel of Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Burial will occur in the spring at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. Mr. William E. Mosher, 69, of State Highway 5s, Fort Plain, NY, died on January 2, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in the Town of Minden, on July 3, 1954, the son of the late Howard E. Mosher, Sr., and Katherine E. Failing Mosher. In 1972 he graduated from Fort Plain High School; he then took classes though LaSalle University for a short time. Bill lived in the local area his entire life and was a self-employed contractor until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his Harley, and was especially proud of his 1949 Candy Apple Red Panhead, which was featured on the back cover of a book, he spent other time in his wood shop, and hunting. He also was a proud member of the NYS Muzzleloader Club and the Nowadaga Muzzleloader Club. On July 3, 1982, on River Road Fort Plain, he married Mary A. Salvagni Herringshaw, who survives. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughters, Michelle "Missy" and her husband Mike Calbet, and Shelley and Bill Dorritie; his son George and Crystal Herringshaw; siblings Berry "Wayne" Mosher, Fred Mosher, Robin and her husband Rich Dineen, Howard "Moe" Mosher, Jr., Mariann and Jack McPhillips; grandchildren Jon Calbet, Elizabeth Herringshaw, Eric Dorritie, Louis Calbet, Lucas Dorritie and Isabelle Herringshaw; great neighbors, Tim and Shea Breheny and Shirley (Yoran) Brown as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. The burial will take place at Rural Park Cemetery, Ingham Mills, NY. The family invites everyone to join them for a celebration of life on Friday, January 12th, 2023, starting at 12:00 noon at the Canajoharie Moose on Erie Blvd., Canajoharie, NY 13317.
