"John "Johnny" Madison Lemmons, 83, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2023, in The Woodlands, Texas. Johnny was born on September 8, 1939, in Borger, Texas, to Annie and Bert Lemmons. He was raised in Happy, Texas, where he grew up as a cowboy on a horse, farming and ranching in the Texas panhandle. He earned his Associate's Degree at Frank Phillips College and moved on to Texas Tech University. While at Texas Tech, Johnny was a letterman basketball player and played on the team that won the Southwest Conference in 1961. After leaving basketball, Johnny rode bareback broncs and bulls and raced wild mares in the Texas Tech Rodeo before graduating with his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1965. Johnny served our country in the United States Army and received Sharpshooter and Good Conduct Commendations. After serving, Johnny returned to farming, ranching, and running an agricultural business. He enjoyed a "wild roller coaster of careers" that took him across the Texas panhandle and through west Texas. He was a successful oil field trucking service salesman, a manager of a large pipe yard, a successful life insurance salesman, a manager of a big grain elevator, an owner of a large western clothing store, a licensed real estate broker, and an owner of a mortgage agency. His work with The Home Depot brought him to Houston, Texas, where he could be closer to his children's families. Johnny later moved to Conroe, Texas, and spent many days on the lake fishing. Throughout his life, he authored over 60 novels and 65 short stories, and he often returned to Happy, Texas, to visit with friends and classmates and enjoy the Happy Days Celebration with the city. Johnny is survived by his children, Blaine Kruizenga and husband, John, of Houston, and Colby Lemmons and wife, Joanne, of Houston; his sister Phyllis Bradley and nephew, Chris, of Amarillo; his grandchildren Chelsea Siragusa and husband, Neil, Cole Lemmons, Cory Lemmons, Keegan Huffman, and Alex Huffman; and his 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Cox and Bert Lemmons, and grandson Brice Emmerson. A short graveside gathering will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Happy Cemetery in Happy, Texas. You may leave written memorials to his family at www. shmfh. com"
