PLATTSBURGH - John W. Kirkpatrick, 89, of Cumberland Head, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2023 in Plattsburgh NY. He was born on April 12, 1934, the son of Vern William and Alice ( Lambert) Kirkpatrick. John was a very hard working and industrious man. He spent 31 years working for the State of NY Department of Corrections, retiring from Clinton Correctional Facility. He loved playing his bagpipes and was happy to participate in many events. He took great pride in his Crown Point hunting camp and enjoyed spending time there with family. He was an avid World War II history buff. He enjoyed planning trips for him and his wife but for those who knew him, know Germany was his favorite place in the world. He was predeceased by his first wife Francine Swirsky, his son Gideon John Kirkpatrick (Eda Krupp), and his two brothers Robert G Kirkpatrick (Elaine Kirkpatrick), and Harold J. Kirkpatrick(Joyce Kirkpatrick). John is survived by his wife, Joyce Kirkpatrick, his daughter Ann (Cliff) Clauson; his sister Jean Puffett; his brother Thomas ,( Polly) Kirkpatrick; his grandchildren, Sarah Clauson, Rachel Clauson, Michael Kirkpatrick and Lillian Kirkpatrick. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 1:00 to 4:00pm at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Charlotte Mae Johnson, 85 of Cumberland Head peacefully passed away and was called home to her lord, surrounded by her loving family under the care of Hospice of the North Country on Friday, September 24, 2021. She was the first of 13 children born on September 29, 1935, to Joseph and Ethel (Dumont) Johnson in Chasm Falls, NY. Charlotte graduated from Franklin Academy in 1952. She and her late husband, John P. Johnson Jr. , owned and operated Johnson Painting Corp for more than 60 years. Charlotte was a member of many civic organizations, including President of the Ladies of the Elk and Kiwanis. Charlotte was a woman of strong faith. She was a member of Saint Mary's of the Lake and most recently Holy Cross Parish. She lived her faith every day. Charlotte cherished every moment with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who called her "Gram. " She enjoyed teaching them to cook and bake, especially her famous chocolate chip cookies. For all of Gram's recipes, the most important ingredient is LOVE, and she sure put a lot of that into her cooking and baking!Charlotte was survived by her sons Thomas (Karin) Raville, Brian (Paige) Raville, and Gregory (Kristi) Raville along with her stepson Joseph (Mary) Johnson, and stepdaughter Mary Ann (Robert) Willett as well as 11 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren. Also surviving her are her sisters Janice Johnson, Brenda (Mark) Fleury and brothers Norman (Yvonne) Johnson, Keith (Carolyn) Johnson, and Patrick Johnson, sister-in-law Janet Johnson and brother-in-law Donald (Janet) Johnson, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her late husband, John P. Johnson Jr. , a sister Phyllis Crump; brothers Joseph Johnson, Donald Johnson, Charles Ross Johnson, Richard Johnson, Kenneth Johnson, Arthur Johnson, and brother-in-law Robert Johnson. At Charlotte's request there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on her 86th birthday, Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at 11:00 am at St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 11:00 am at St. Helen's Cemetery in Chasm Falls, NY. Thomas A. Fresn, 79 of Cumberland Head, New York, died peacefully at the home of his daughter on July 10, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. At the time of his death, he was under the care of Hospice of the North Country and was surrounded by his children. Tom was born on May 25, 1942 in Plattsburgh, New York the son of Gilbert and Marion (Strack) Fresn. He attended Plattsburgh Normal School's Campus School and later graduated from St. John's Catholic School in 1961. While a Senior in high school, he volunteered as one of the first members of the newly created Cumberland Head Volunteer Fire Department. He served in the department for over 20 years and at one point held the position of Fire Chief. He enlisted in the US Navy and served from 1962 - 1966. Tom was a Union Pipefitter who worked on many major building sites in the North Country. Upon his retirement in 2002, Tom took to the woods (as we jokingly said) from late April until mid - November yearly. First creating a family camp in Tupper Lake and the last few years building a camp with his son outside of Malone. Tom enjoyed nothing more than looking out over the pond and experiencing the wildlife. The Adirondacks were his cathedral. Left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Kathleen Fresn and their children Susan Fresn; Terriann Fresn (Ken Simpson); Tom Fresn (Jackie Black). He is also survived by his four grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Courtney (Aimee) Harkness, Connor Fresn, Christopher and Kyler Carlo, Stevie and Archer Harkness. In addition, Tom leaves behind two siblings Daul (Armando) Valenzuela and Luther Fresn; an Aunt Mary Kuta, his lifelong friend Clayton Provost as well as several nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his parents and his sister Ann Marie Usticke. At his request there will be no calling hours. A Celebration of Life will be held at Ausable Point State Park on July 24, 2021 at 2:00 for those who wish to join in our celebration. Edward Lyman "Eddie" Pepper II, 56, of Cumberland Head passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the CVPH Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh on April 22, 1964 the son of Edward L. "Bud" and Beverly (Provost) Pepper.Eddie graduated from MAI in 1982 and worked for the NYS Department of Corrections from January 1990 to January 2020. He was a Big sports fan and loved to watch football, baseball, golf (pros, college and high school). He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Duke Basketball, and New York Yankees. He loved March Madness and the Masters Golf Tournament. He coached youth baseball and basketball and umpired baseball and reffed basketball in his younger years. He was one of Mickey's biggest sports fans and was so proud of his son. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, bowling, golfing, spending much of his time with his doggie Diesel and loved having bonfires in the Spring and Fall.He is survived by his wife; Su-Ellen O'Connell Pepper, his son Mickey Edward Pepper, his parents Edward and Beverly Pepper, his sister; Amy Pepper Holzer, his mother in law; Mary Anne O'Connell, sisters in law; Lynn O'Connell and husband Mike Wales, Laurie and Chris Eamer, brother in law Ryon and Nicole O'Connell, many loved nieces and nephews his favorite aunt Lucille Flynn, his uncles Leslie and Donald "Stub" Pepper, and many cousins and their families.He was predeceased by his father in law Chauncey "Nubby" O'Connell and grandparents Lawrence and Geraldine Provost and Adelbert and Ruth Pepper.Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. Lucian R. "Lou" Bernard, 92 of Cumberland Head passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 with his loving family either by his side or in spirit. He was born an identical twin in Plattsburgh on Mother's Day, May 13, 1928. Lucian attended Mount Assumption Institute followed by his undergraduate studies at Saint Michael's College and graduate studies at SUNY Albany. Lucian was a former physics and chemistry instructor at Plattsburgh High School for 31 years followed by a stint at his alma mater, Mount Assumption Institute.Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Philomena, three sons, Joseph (Anne) of Orlando, FL, Jeffrey (Kevin Defayette) of Plattsburgh, Jerrold (Wendi) of Portland, OR, four daughters, Melanie (Michael) Marr of Plattsburgh, Melinda (David) Drollette of Plattsburgh, Michele (Craig) Matera, of South Setauket, NY and Melissa Locast of Wantagh, NY. Grandchildren:Dustin and Merrilee Bernard, Kayti and Bradley Marr, Sara Courcelle and Brian Drollette, Michael Matera and Megan Maloney, Alanna and Anthony Locast and, Aiden and Zane Bernard. Great grandchildren:Chloe Thume, Owen and Ethan Courcelle, Oliver and Lillian Drollette. Lucian was pre-deceased by his parents, Leo W. and Florence (Maple) Bernard. two sisters, Winifred Soucy-Burgio, Theresa Fiore, his twin brother, Joseph and son-in-law, Fredrick Locast.
