John T. Higgins Jr. , age 62, of Marstons Mills, Massachusetts passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Cape Cod Hospital. Born in Springfield, MA on March 1, 1961, he was a son of the late Lorraine and John T. Higgins, Sr. John proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He spent his career working as a skilled carpenter for many years. In his spare time, John enjoyed fishing. He also liked playing golf, particularly at the Bayberry Hills Golf Course in West Yarmouth. Above all, John will be remembered for his big heart, and the way he cherished his family. He was a loving father and a wonderful papa. John will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia D'Amico; two children, Shawn and Jennifer Higgins; his grandson, Julian; three brothers, Timothy, David, and Mark Higgins; and a sister, Stormy Patrick. Elizabeth Anna (Kearney) Mendes "Betty", 84, of Marstons Mills, MA entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday, June 29, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was the adored wife of 66 years to James Mendes. Betty was born and raised in Marstons Mills, the daughter of the late Oscar Davis and Dorothy (Wilson) Kearney. She owned and operated Bassett Lane Cleaners in Hyannis and was a well-known expert seamstress. After selling her business, she worked for Spartan Cleaners until she retired. She was a devoted member of Zion Union Church in Hyannis for over 40 years where she served as Sunday school teacher, Deacon and Mother. Betty, known by her family as "Mimi" was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She absolutely loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed family vacations. Betty is predeceased by her siblings Michael, Paul, Barbara, Rosemary and Bruce Kearney. In addition to her husband James, she is survived by her cherished children Esther Denise Moore (Fred) of St. Petersburg, FL, Janise Mendes (Eugene) of Port St. Lucie, FL, Robin Santiago (Bruce) of Wareham, MA, Sherrie Donalson (Sammy) of Hyannis, MA, James Mendes, Jr. (Michelle) of Hyannis, MA, Elaina Mendes (Robert "Shortie") of Hyannis and Crystal Reed (Quincy) of Douglasville, GA. ; her loving sisters and brother Joyce Maddox of GA; Yvonne Kearney of CT and Darrin Smith of CT; her 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will take place Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 10 am -12 noon at Zion Union Church, 805 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601 followed by a 12 noon service. Private cremation to follow. Suzanne Sutherland, 94, passed away on June 19, 2023, at her home in Marstons Mills, Massachusetts. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, to her parents, John W. and Helen (Costello) Redding, who have since passed away. After graduating from Ottawa Hills High School, Suzanne pursued higher education at Bennett Junior College in Millbrook, N. Y. She then worked as a Kindergarten teacher at Grace Church School in New York before her marriage to her loving husband Kenneth Sutherland. Together for over 60 years, they raised their family in New Canaan, CT before retirement in Boca Raton, FL and Marstons Mills, MA. Suzanne was a loving mother and wife. In New Canaan she was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and volunteered at the VNA thrift shop. In Boca Raton she enjoyed long walks on the beach collecting shells. But her time in Marstons Mills was most treasured when the entire family gathered together each summer. She will be remembered for her love and devotion to them. She is survived by her children, Kenneth Sutherland Jr. , Hollis A. Sutherland, and David W. and his wife Barbara (Cook) Sutherland. Suzanne will also be missed by her grandchildren Lindsay A. Sutherland, Kelsey (Christophersen) Cochrane, and her husband Devon and their daughter Cora, David W. Sutherland Jr. , Andrew T. Sutherland, and Scott A. Sutherland. MARSTONS MILLS, MA - Paul L. Beckwith, 86, of Marstons Mills, formerly of Worcester, died at home Friday, May 14, 2021 of cancer. His wife of 57 years, Maureen C. (Smith), predeceased him in June of 2015. Born in Worcester to Margaret (Murphy) Beckwith, Paul attended Worcester Public Schools and was a celebrated athlete, notably in football, at South High. He met Maureen while working at the former Thom McAn shoe company in Worcester and, until her death, they spent their time enjoying live music, traveling to inns across New England, and raising their ever-growing family. Paul was a devoted Jesse Burkett Little league coach, Boy Scout leader, and local campaign volunteer as well as a lover of jazz music, bass fishing, democracy and a lifelong student of music and history. Upon his retirement from the Massachusetts Turnpike in 1996 and relocating to Cape Cod, he was able to devote more time to enjoying baseball, UConn Women's Basketball, and British TV shows and films. He was a dog whisperer and strove daily to produce the perfect cup of tea. Paul will be missed by his six children, Anne Murphy and her husband, Thomas of Wilmington, VT, Mary Beckwith and her wife, Jill of North Dartmouth, Paul Beckwith and his wife, Toni of Watertown, John Beckwith and his wife, Dee Dee of Marstons Mills, Jean Collamore and her husband, John of Worcester, Laura Cahill and her partner Kevin Donohue of Worcester, as well as his 13 grandchildren, Kara Coffin and her husband, Michael, Joseph Beckwith, Elizabeth and Andrew Eglin, Jay and Grace Beckwith, Lydia and Aileen Cahill, Hayley and Julia Collamore, Isaiah Beckwith, Erin Murphy and her husband Phil Skypeck, and John Murphy; and 4 great grandchildren, Quinn, Evelyn, and Cormac Coffin, and Susan Skypeck. Paul also leaves a sister, Carolyn O'Murphy, of Butte MT, a sister-in-law, Anne (Smith) LaFortune and her husband, James, of Belchertown MA, many nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends who made his years in Worcester and Cape Cod so enjoyable.
