John William Guess, 68, entered fully into the presence of the Lord on October 1, 2023. We smile at the thought of Jesus handing him a perfect new trumpet, as John now joins heaven's best and brightest. John resided in Winter Park, but was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on August 26, 1955. He'd soon move to spend much of his schooling in Lancaster, Ohio. One of the first graduates from the newly-opened Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, with a BA in Music Performance, he was welcomed into a world of professionals where he freelanced with Big Bands, such as The Tommy Dorsey Big Band Orchestra and others, adding Broadway productions, jazz performances, and more to his repertoire. A true professional for decades, but as humble as they come. A member of the American Federation of Musicians, he had a special passion for that Broadway and jazz. His gifts bettered our world. The Maitland Public Library enjoyed the gift of his talent as he eagerly shared his love of music there often with folks of all ages. In 1992, he married the absolute love of his life, Pamela Jo, and their story is proof that fairy tales happen. They adored each other for his remaining 31 years, and their love was beautiful to witness. The strong faith in Jesus they shared gives us comfort in knowing Alzheimer's was no match for the reward God had waiting for him. Six nephews and nieces are blessed to call him Uncle, and will remember most his sense of humor, encouragement, and huge heart. In lieu of flowers, Pammy asks that donations be made to the Dementia Society of America (www. dementiasociety. org. ) A viewing of the body will be held at Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill Dignity Memorial on Friday, October 13th (which would make our dry-humored John laugh), 11 a. m. - 2 p. m. , with a committal service to follow graveside from 2:30- 4 p. m. A special celebration of life for John will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Oviedo on Saturday, October 14th at 11am. We look forward to gathering to reflect upon the joy, faith, talent, and love he leaves behind in our hearts.
