John Edward Greer, 83, of Cherokee Village, formerly of Jonesboro passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice house. He was born in Cash, Arkansas on October 9th, 1939, to John H. Greer and Permell (Granny) Eldridge Greer. He lived most of his life in the Jonesboro area, but in 2014 he moved to Cherokee Village, Arkansas with his wife Betty. He retired from a long life of farming in 2020. He was a well known and respected farmer in the Southern States. He managed the farm of Larry Burns, Agman Inc. , also known as the Burns Seed Farm for over 50 years. In 2005, he was selected as the National Rice Farmer of the year. He was very innovated and inventive in the developing rice farming as it is known today. The Burns Seed Farm (Agman Inc. ) was the largest rice seed producer in the south for a number of years and produced in an excess of 300,000 bushels of see rice per year. John enjoyed everyday of his farming career and was very proud to be able to help the Burns Seed Farm (Agman Inc. ) to be successful throughout the years he was working and managing the farm. John was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Betty L. Greer; one son, John A. (Andy) Greer; two brothers, Billy D. Greer, and Frank Greer. Also, his canine companion Little Girl. He is survived by one daughter, Tracy Wiseman (Roy) of Brookland, Arkansas; two granddaughters, Samantha Scalf (Forrest Pulley) of Conway, Arkansas, and Breanna Moon (Zach) of Bono, Arkansas. Two sisters, Mary Alice Swindle of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Lorene Bailey of Olive Branch, Mississippi; several nieces, nephews, and cousins and his pride and joy canine, Sweet Pea. His greatest joy was spending time with the girls and their fur babies, hoping to make them happy, and help make their lives an easier one. All services will be private.
