John Henry Chartier was born January 30th, 1940 in Springfield, MA to parents John Leo Chartier and Flora Edna Black. He passed away peacefully in his sleep August 30, 2023 in Crescent City, CA. He was the eldest of seven children. He joined the U. S. Navy in November 1957 and attended The Navel War College in Newport Rhode Island. He served in the Vietnam war and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in June 1976. He spent his time after the military with his late wife, LaJuan, in Vacaville, CA. He collected old radios, perused garage sales and was a true computer whiz who could disassemble and rebuild any computer. His greatest pastime was joining his good buddies for coffee and conversation at Panera three times a week. In 2022 he moved to Crescent City, CA with his stepdaughter and son-in-law Teresa Marie and Whitney Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Raymond Chartier, Ramona Chartier, Ralph S. Chartier, Ronald (Ronnie) Leo Chartier, and Christine Chartier, and wife LaJuan Newcomb Chartier. He is survived by his sister Carol DaCosta, children Debra Ann Reed of Maricopa AZ,Donna Marie Chartier of Oklahoma City, OK, and John Henry Chartier JR. , of San Francisco, CA. , six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. John Henry will be interred with his late wife in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd. , Dixon, CA. May they continue their journey together forever.

Isaac Moses Lopez was born on Easter Sunday, March 31st, 2002. The youngest son born to Erika and Angel Lopez. Isaac passed away suddenly on November 8th, 2023, from a car accident, He was only 21 years old. He left behind devastated family and friends. Isaac was a young man with a bright future and many plans. He loved working on cars, especially his first car, a 1997 Chevrolet Sierra. Isaac began his career as a member of the Plumber and Steamfitters Union Local 343 and later became a Heavy Machine Mechanic Apprentice with Action Rents, he also enjoyed welding. Isaac grew up in Vacaville, CA with two older brothers, Frank and Angel, whom he loved dearly and enjoyed spending time with. Early on Isaac showed an interest in sports, especially baseball and was known for his drive and hard work. He played in various leagues including the Vacaville American Baseball league, Pony Baseball league, Travel Baseball Team - Solano Dragons. He also wrestled on the Vaca Pena team and even played for the Will C Wood Baseball team. Isaac had the best sense of humor and a smile that was infectious. He approached everything as a learning experience and made it a point to expand his knowledge and be the best at whatever he was doing. Isaac was always challenging himself to learn something new. One of the many hobbies he had besides, welding, and engine rebuilding was his love of Music. Isaac was a music aficionado and started playing music in elementary school and in the church Choir. While in high school he purchased his first Bass Guitar and was self-taught. A short time later he was able to transition over to an Electric Guitar and was in the process of writing his own music. Those who knew Isaac, were introduced to his many passions and interests of music, welding, trucks, mechanics, baseball, MMA, and comedy. As a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, Isaac filled our lives with love, joy, thoughtfulness, adventure and plenty of humor. He will always remember his heart of gold. He was a loving and good son who was always willing to lend a hand. He was a larger-than-life personality. Those closest to him feel the void of his presence. He is survived by his parents Angel and Erika Lopez: Brothers Frank and Angel Lopez: Grandmothers Elizabeth De La Torre and Delia Lopez, Step-Grandfather Humberto Fajardo and numerous Uncles, Aunts, and cousins. Marilyn Kay (Juergens) Weaver, 83, died on November 4, 2023, in Vacaville, California following a series of strokes. She was born at home during a snowstorm in Percy, Illinois on February 2, 1940, to Ray and Minnie (Eggemeyer) Juergens. Marilyn was preceded in death by her son Michael and husband of 54 years Gary, her sister Darlene Miller and niece Mary (Miller) Dejaro. She is survived by her daughter Laura Weaver and son-in-law Jon Linfor, daughter in-in-law Julie Melbourne-Weaver, four grandsons, Kyle and Paul Linfor, Preston Melbourne-Weaver and his wife Samantha, Lee Melbourne-Weaver and his fiancee Alexis Boyd-Holling, brother-in-law Jerold Miller, and two nephews, Jerry and Tom Miller. Marilyn graduated from Sacramento State in 1970 with a B. A. in history and a teaching credential. She taught elementary school from kindergarten to fourth grade and retired from teaching in 2000. Marilyn was a member of the original "Cambridge Crew" when Cambridge Elementary opened in Vacaville in 1980. Interested in history and culture, Marilyn and Gary were world travelers and visited all seven continents. They also traveled extensively all over the United States. Marilyn continued to travel after Gary's death including trips to Ireland and France. Marilyn was an out-going woman who made many friends and cultivated life-long relationships. She was energetic, determined and always had to have a plan. If you wanted to get something done, Marilyn was the woman to call. The Weaver family were among the founding members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Vacaville. Both Marilyn and Gary were active in the church, holding many different positions over the years. Marilyn's last contribution to the church a week before she died was to organize the volunteer list for the Pumpkins on the Hill, a yearly activity which supports the church's Community Feeding program and Opportunity House. At the age of 98, Jane Yllescas (Ellasces) Garcia passed peacefully on Nov. 10 with her loving family by her side. The second youngest of 6 girls and 1 boy, Jane was born to Juan and Maria Yllescas in a little house on Ed Uhl's ranch in the outskirts of Vacaville. Juan and Maria immigrated from Aldeire, Granada, Spain in 1921with their 4 youngest children. Jane lived her entire life in Vacaville and graduated from Vacaville High School in 1943. After graduation, Jane worked at the downtown Vacaville Creamery and Bus Depot, now the current site of Heritage House Cafe, and then worked at Solano Grocery, now the current site of Merchant and Main Grill and Bar. It was at Solano Grocery where Jane met her future husband, Ed Garcia, after his return from WWII. Ed was the butcher, Jane the "butcherett" and checker. They fell in love, married in 1950 and had a son, Larry and daughter Terri. After marriage, Jane was a stay-at-home wife and mother, loved her family beyond words, and she was always there for them. She had an exceptionally strong love of family and nothing made her happier than being with them. When Larry and Terri got a little older, Jane worked summers with her sisters at Richard Nola's dehydrator and fruit packing company. She was energetic, fun-loving, and always up for whatever came her way. She enjoyed working in her yard, watching her daily soap operas, visiting with her sisters everyday and loved anything purple. Jane was athletic and active all her life. She played basketball in high school, enjoyed bowling, loved watching sports, and exercised, walked and practiced yoga until the age of 93. Jane and Ed both loved bowling and bowled together most of their married life in mixed leagues and separately, travelling through California to compete in state tournaments. Jane never missed a volleyball or basketball game of her 2 granddaughters and followed them as far as Aruba to offer support and cheer. In Jane's 70s, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of visiting the Hawaiian Islands despite her lifelong fear of flying. After that first flight, she was eager to continue her family travels including trips to Spain, Canada, Aruba, and various cruises. Sadly, Jane leaves behind her son Larry (Sande), daughter Terri, granddaughters Fearon DeWeese (Chris), Melissa Muzio (Tony), great grandchildren Ellamay DeWeese, Macie and Vinny Muzio, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jane is now reunited with her loving husband Ed, sisters Constance Rodriguez (John), Antoinette Perez (Tony), Ann Silva (Jack), Mary Castano (Albert), Carmen Campos (John), brother John Ellasces (Jeannie), nephews John Jr. (Butch) and Keith Ellasces, along with her parents Juan and Maria Yllescas. Jane lived a wonderfully long and happy life and leaves us with sweet memories. Mom, your love will always be with us. Katherine McPike, 87, of Vacaville, CA, passed away on October 28, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. She was born to Victor Criddle and Berdie Holliday on August 20, 1936, in Houston, MS. She was one of nine children. Katherine married the love of her life, Elmer, in 1953 and they called Vacaville home where they raised three children: Tom, Martha, and Barbara. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, going to garage sales and taking care of everyone. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Elmer McPike; daughter Barbara McPike; sisters Ruth Roberson, Lou Graham, Peggy Criddle, and Erlene Jackson; brothers James "JR" Criddle, Ervin Criddle, and Jo Ben Criddle; sister-in-law Ruth, Gertie Mae, Ella Mae, and Mary Alice; and brother-in-law Cecil. She is survived by her daughter Martha (Terry) Downing; son Tom (Rhonda) McPike; grandsons Walter (Sonya) Wade and Kevin (Alison) Wade, Tommy McPike and David McPike; great grandsons William Wade, Westin Wade, and Cooper McPike; great granddaughter Alexa Wade; sisters Sarah (Joe) Allen, and Judy Olive (Rick) Cambra; brothers Thomas (Barbara) Criddle and John Wayne Criddle; and many nieces and nephews, to which she was the best Aunt. The visitation will be Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 2pm - 4pm at McCune Garden Chapel. Bill Jacks' life was defined by his love for family, friends, community, and golf. Born December 14, 1950 in Long Beach, Bill frequently mentioned how lucky he was to have had Keith and Mary Jacks as parents. Bill was predeceased by his older sister Lola and younger brother Roy. Growing up Bill especially looked out for Roy and they remained close all their lives. Bill married Julie (Turnsk) Jacks in 1986 and they enjoyed 37 years together. Spending time with friends was a priority with Bill. Whether hosting parties, organizing golf outings or planning class reunions, Bill loved bringing people together. Over the years, he established and maintained many friendships throughout the community. Bill loved Vacaville. His family arrived in 1957 and he never left. He attended Vacaville schools starting in first grade and graduated from Vaca High in 1969, where he was a member of the school's championship wrestling team. In the years since, Bill has been a dedicated member of the reunion committee for the class of 1969. After graduating from Sacramento State in 1973, Bill became a teacher for the Vacaville Unified School District. He spent most of his career at Elm School, moving toHemlock when Elm closed. He retired in 2010. In addition to teaching, Bill supported the community in a variety of ways. He served on the board for the Stan Foster Memorial Golf Tournament and was also a lifelong participant. He was treasurer of the Vacaville Teachers Association for 12 years. For many years, Bill drove the Vasquez family float in the Fiesta Days parade. Bill was always happy when golfing with friends. In addition to playing most courses within a day's drive of Vacaville, he took many golf trips, including the Northern California Coast, Lake Tahoe, Monterey Peninsula, Palm Springs and Mesquite, Nevada. He even got in 3 rounds during a trip to Ireland. Beginning in 1984, Bill organized and hosted his own golf tournament, the Mayberry. For 40 years the Mayberry was an annual highlight, not only for the golf, but also the steak dinner at Bill's afterwards. Bill is survived by his wife Julie Jacks. Bill and Julie wish to extend their appreciation to the community of Vacaville and the many friends who have supported them through the years, especially Ron Humphrey, who was an invaluable help over the final few months. Ernestine Esparza, also known as "Sunny" (for her sunny disposition and personality), was born in Ozona Texas in 1925. Ernestine was the daughter of the town entrepreneur, Santiago Vargas and a stay-at-home mother, Maria Vargas. She had a loving mother, a father she adored, and her siblings, were, sisters, Elva, Emma and Evelyn and brothers, Hector, Blas, Ernesto, Yverto and Jimmy. Ernestine is survived by her brother Jimmy Vargas and her sister Elva Eastman. Ernestine married the love of her life Joe Esparza on June 1, 1945. They were married for 68 years. Joe passed away in 2003. Joe and Ernestine had many children of which 6 survived to adulthood. Joe, Bob, Cynthia, David, Gloria, and John. Bob, sadly, passed away in 2006. All her children were successful and good people who Ernestine was very proud of. They all graduated from college and 3 of them went on to achieve advanced degrees. Ernestine was an amazing woman. For most of her family, she was known as Grandma, a kind matriarch who had most of her grandchildren live with her at one time or another. Grandma's door was always open, and she was ready to hear about your life and your family. If you needed a place to live, she always had a room available. In Vacaville, people remember her as the woman who started a medical clinic for the poor in the early 70s. The clinic lasted for over 30 years. Often people would stop to talk with her at restaurants and say, "You helped me so much thank you for what you do!"Joe and Ernestine had three businesses that they started after Joe left his military career. They had a furniture and appliance store and 2 Mexican restaurants, one in Lodi and one in Vacaville. Ernestine was also known for her inspiration to many of her friends and young people she met over the years. Ernestine herself had an honorary bachelor's degree and attended Solano Community College to take various art classes until she was in her mid-80s. There is so much to say about Ernestine's love of life. She would say Vivir Vivir Vivir which means to live, to live to live. Ernestine loved traveling, loved going out to eat and appreciated the good life. Her dancing was legendary and danced well into her 90s. Ernestine is survived by children, Joe (Marsha) Esparza, Cynthia (Don) Schiff, David (Sandy) Esparza, Gloria (Larry) Engman, and John (Lynn) Esparza, 23 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren, and her caretaker Oralia Altamarino and Oralia's daughters, Denise and Muncie, who we owe a debt of gratitude.Show more

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles "Charlie" Misuraca, 95, at his home inDixon on Saturday, October 7, 2023. He was a longtime resident and community member. Charlie wasborn on October 28, 1927 to Charles and Angie Misuraca, Italian immigrants, in San Francisco. Duringthe 1930's his family moved from San Francisco to a farm east of Dixon on Robben Road. He tookextension classes at UC Davis and learned all about the dairy business and that is when they started theMisuraca Dairy with his father. He ran the successful dairy farm until he retired in 1988. Charlie went to a one room classroom on Robben Road in his early years and then went to Dixon HighSchool where he graduated in 1945. While in high school he was the Dixon FFA Chapter President afterthey had just gotten their state charter. In 1949 he met his married his wife, Frances and they had raised 4 daughters. Charles and Frances weremarried for 65 years before her death in 2015. When Charlie retired they enjoyed their latter yearstraveling around the world and spending time with their family. Charlie was on the board member of the Dixon Resource Conservation District, and also was on theboard of the Dixon Fire Department, and a past member the Dixon Boat Club as well. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and relished his trips with his friends. Charlie also was a loyal 49erfan. He is survived by his sister, Ramona Hill, four daughters, Vicki Ruiz (Al), Carol Stanley, Sandy Bonesteel(Rick), and Becky Jacobs (Kevin). He had 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. The family wish to express their uttermost appreciation to Trish Achtermeyer, a longtime friend for thecare she provided to him in his latter years. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 10 a. m. at Silveyville Cemetery.
