Mary Teresa Rew (nee Leonard) peacefully took her last breath on July 20, 2023, at St. Joseph's University Medical Center, the same hospital where she was born and took her first breath 96 years ago. Her beloved daughter and brother were by her side. She lived a long and full life filled with friends, loyal customers, travel and many good laughs. Born to Joseph P. Leonard and Estelle M. Leonard, she grew up in Paterson, NJ, resided with her family in Glen Rock, NJ and retired to Eastham, MA. before returning to Glen Rock to be closer to her family. She was a selfless giver who loved to help others. As a nine-year-old girl, she saved her childhood best friend, Marilyn Scullion's life after being hit by a car. She was honored by The Cardinal Club of Paterson with an award dinner and presented with a gold medal symbolic of the most heroic deed performed by a school pupil during the year. She continued to help others throughout her life by regularly donating blood and volunteering for many organizations and committees for parties and events. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Grammar School, Eastside High School and St. Vincent's School of Infant Nursing. After graduation, Teresa went on to work at New Jersey Bell Telephone Company in Paterson and Ridgewood. Following her marriage to her husband, Harold C. Rew, she opened and operated The Rooster Shop Gift Shop on Rock Road in Glen Rock until her retirement approximately 20 years later. Upon retirement, she and Harold relocated to Cape Cod where she continued to live for many years after her husband's death. While on the Cape, she was very active in volunteering at The Eastham Council on Aging, St. Joan of Arc Thrift Shop, the Fireman's Thrift Shop in Orlean's, MA. and was a member of The Cape Cod Hospital Auxiliary. She continued to volunteer when she returned to NJ and was a volunteer at The Valley Hospital Auxiliary in Ridgewood, NJ. Teresa was pre-deceased by her parents, her beloved husband, Harold C.
