John Westcott Beck of Cortlandt Manor, born in 1936, in Brooklyn, NY, died peacefully on September 7, 2023, in Westchester Medical Center, with his family by his side. John was the youngest of three children born to Albert and Miriam Beck and is predeceased by his brother, Allen, and sister, Joan. John's journey was characterized by his service to God, country, and the family that he loved with all his heart. During his 50 years as a parishioner of Holy Spirit Church in Cortlandt Manor, John was actively involved in teaching in the RCIA program, was principal of the former Confirmation program for high school students, led the Respect Life Committee, Midnight Run Program and retreats for the men of Holy Spirit Church. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, and chosen Knight of the Year twice. John became a Cursillista in 1976 and participated as a team member in many, many Cursillo and Tres Dias retreats, where he was blessed to form lasting friendships. John loved a good party and had the joy of being part of many social events in the community. He had a great sense of humor, which he generously shared with everyone, especially the patients at Hudson Valley Hospital, where he served tirelessly as a volunteer chaplain for 12 years. John served his country from 1954 to 1957 and was honorably discharged from the US Army, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant in the Signal Corp. Skills acquired in the Army and RCA Institute prepared him for his 35 year career with IBM as a Systems Analyst. After retirement, he dedicated his time and talents to Good Counsel Homes for Single Mothers and Children for 18 years and actively took on the challenge of protecting the unborn. John, however, found his true joy in the family that God blessed him with. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jane; his son, John, (Vickie); and daughter, Barbara (Michael). His children are a testament to the Christian foundation and values in which they were raised and which have been passed down to six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. John is also remembered fondly by two nieces, four grandnephews, and a great-grandniece. John left an incredible mark on the lives of all he came in contact with and will be remembered not only for his leadership and achievements but also for kindness, warmth, and love. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide, and his memory will forever remain in our hearts. John's spirit will live on through the lives he touched and we will always hold him close in our hearts. May he rest in peace. Amen.
