Sturbridge: Joseph P. Tomlin, 25, of Shepard Rd. , Sturbridge passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 7th. He leaves his mother, Tammy N. Louyakis and his step-father David Louyakis of Sturbridge; his father, Joseph P. Tomlin and his wife Kimberly of Ware; four brothers, Efstratios Louyakis of Groveland, FL, Nathan Pierce of Warren, Austin Tomlin of Warren, and Kyle Sullivan of Sturbridge; four sisters, Jessica Buteau and her husband Jeremy of Southbridge, Kayla O'Brien of Auburn, Alexia Louyakis of Sturbridge and Amber Pierce of Warren; his close cousin, Sam Decell. He leaves behind many aunts and uncles, as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his loyal and loving dog, Toby. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Shawn O'Brien. He was born in Worcester on February 28, 1998. He graduated from Tantasqua Regional High School, specializing in Carpentry. He worked as a Tow Truck Driver for Interstate Towing in Sturbridge. Joey was a tow truck driver, a job that exemplified his natural inclination to assist people in their times of need. He had a special bond with animals and a love for children, creating a ripple of positivity wherever he went. His love for riding his bike was second only to the community of friends he built around his shared passion. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 19th, at the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St. , Southbridge, at 11:30am. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held Tuesday, September 19th from 9:30 to 11:30am prior to the service. Charlton - Beverly A. (Brown) Melanson, 88, of Stafford St. , peacefully passed away on Sunday, Dec. 3rd, with her family by her side. She was a strong, loving woman who passed away with no regrets, and a heart full of appreciation. Beverly was born in Goffstown, NH, in July of 1935. She is predeceased by her parents, Violet Mae and Harold Brown; her sister, Judith Hanlon; her daughter, Debra Melanson; and her "Bonus Grandson" Donald Williams. Beverly worked many years as a cocktail waitress and singer at Dino's Ristorante Italiano in Worcester in their Blue Grotto Lounge. She also worked at Bronzo's Bar & Lounge in Shrewsbury. "Bev" eventually moved on from the Worcester/Shrewsbury area to Charlton, where she has been a resident of for over 40 years. She had a deep appreciation for the town of Charlton and all of its residents. In her later years of life she volunteered at St. Joseph's Church in Charlton as a Eucharistic Minister serving at the 10 am Sunday Masses. It was a great way for her to express her love of God to others. Bev was a Member of the Auburn Elks Lodge # 2118 with her son, grandson (P. E. R. ) and her grandson's wife. She was proud of the Elks for all that they do to help people in need within our communities. Bev also enjoyed taking part in activities at the Charlton Senior Center. She loved her movies and TV shows, music of all kinds and ALL New England sports teams, "No matter if we're winning or not!" She loved her family and friends more than anything, and her favorite thing to do was meet new people! Many Charlton residents are familiar with Bev's nickname, "The Mayor of Charlton," which was coined because of how outgoing and friendly she was and how she loved to just chat with people about any topic and compliment how cute people's children or pets were. Her sense of humor was something memorable as well. After having just a short chat with Bev, it was undoubtable that your day would be a little bit better because of it. There's so much more. . . Beverly is survived by her two sons, Gary Melanson and Bryan Melanson and his wife Judith; her Granddaughters, Erica Oswell and Lauren Strenn and her husband Michael; her Grandsons, Michael Melanson, Reid Van Iderstine and Christopher Melanson and his wife Brianna; her 7 great-grandchildren and 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren, and the many of her other cherished family and friends. Her passing is a sad loss to us all, but to us all, any loss is a part of life. Though, Bev would not want any of us to forget the ones we love. . . All she would want is for us ALL to love each other, living or gone. A funeral Mass for Bev will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7th, at 5:00 pm in St. Joseph's Church, 10 H. Putnam Rd. Ext. , Charlton. Southbridge: Theresa M. (Missiewicz) Anctil, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Nov. 20th, at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after a long illness. She leaves her four daughters and two sons, Brenda L. Holton and her husband Robert of Butler, TN, Alan H. Anctil and his wife Adrienne of Daytona Beach, FL, Kathleen M. Garner and her husband David of Kissimmee, FL, Kevin P. Anctil and his partner, Susan Simpson of Charlton, Pamela M. Dusza and her husband Richard of Stafford Springs, CT and Deborah A. Anctil of Southbridge; she also leaves her sister, Loretta Kaszowski of Charlton and her brother, Francis "Franny" Missiewicz of Fayban, CT; her 8 grandchildren, Danielle Robidoux, Bradley Lowe and his wife Chelsea, Rudy Anctil, Chandel Pilling, Joseph Degnan, Camille Anctil, Cody Pilling and Alanna Anctil; and her 5 great grandchildren, Haley Grimes, Savannah Robidoux, Mila and Maeve Lowe and Amias Medero and her two beloved pets, Nya (dog) and Toby (cat). She was predeceased by her brother, John Missiewicz and her sister, Barbara Missiewicz. Theresa was born in Putnam, CT the daughter of Balislaw and Josephine (Kaminski) Missiewicz. Theresa worked at the American Optical Co. in Southbridge for over 35 years, retiring many years ago. She also worked part time at the Mass Turnpike rest stop in Sturbridge. Theresa will be remembered as a strong, loving, generous and selfless woman. A devoted mother, who at times worked three separate jobs to take care of her children. She enjoyed spending time cooking and dancing around the kitchen, especially during the holidays. Our mother's love of life was shown in her beautiful smile and fun-loving spirit. Her favorite pastime was going to the casino; she was fond of gardening and loved flowers. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends; she will be missed dearly by everyone who knew her. Sturbridge - Edward Voloka, 93, passed away Saturday, November 11 in his home surrounded by his daughter and many loved ones. His wife, Torrine L. (Smith) Voloka died in 1998. He leaves his daughter, Veronica Voloka of Worcester; he also leaves the Boudreau family of Holland. He was predeceased by his sisters Frances Cieri of Southbridge, Elizabeth Moulton of St. Petersburg Florida, Philomena Voloka of Southbridge and also by his brother Stephen Voloka of Webster and his twin brother Edmond Voloka of Lady Lake Florida. Edward was born in Watertown, the son of Raymond and Veronica (Suita) Voloka and grew up in Southbridge. He went to Southbridge High School and after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served proudly for 20 years during the Korean War and retired as a chief. Ed was a very proud Veteran and participated in many local parades and also visited the local schools to talk to the children about Veterans Day. After his discharge from the Navy, he lived in Holland for many years. Ed was an entrepreneur. He owned a Dairy Queen in Groton Connecticut, a bike shop in Southbridge and owned commercial property in Sturbridge. Ed also volunteered his time as a mechanic for the Pan Mass Challenge. In his spare time, Ed enjoyed coaching Veronica's teams, bowling, golfing with his twin brother, playing horseshoes with the Reilly boys and playing cards with his best friend Megan. Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 20th from 5:00 until 7:00 p. m. in Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton Street, Southbridge. Southbridge: Christo P. Athanas, 108, who was recently recognized as the oldest living native of Southbridge, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 13th. His wife of 37 years, Marie (Brew) Athanas, passed away in 1976. He leaves his daughter, Patricia M. Maly of Southbridge; his two sons, Richard P. Athanas and his companion Caren Weeks of Sierra Vista AZ, Robert J. Athanas and his wife Carol of Montgomery, NY, his four grandchildren, Carol Ann Turner of Charlton, Abigail Jezierski and her fiance, Roger Baker of Southbridge, Kimberly Abatangelo and her husband Drew of Montgomery NY, Anthony P. Athanas and his wife Morgan (VanPelt) of Pine Bush NY; 7 great grandchildren, Kayla Billings, Salvatore Albanese, Brady Morton, Hannah Marrier, Hudson and Myles Abatangelo and Luke Athanas; 10 great, great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Guera "Gerri" Mitro, three brothers, Samuel, Theodore, and Joseph and his son-in-law Emil E. Maly and a great, great grandchild Julien. Christo was born in Southbridge on Dec. 25, 1914 the oldest son of the late Peter & Vasiliky (Perikly) Athanas. Christo worked at the American Optical Co. as an engraver in his younger years later opening Athanas Jewelers on Main St Southbridge and continued to repair watches for many years. He was later employed as a machinist at Pratt & Whitney. Beginning in 1959 he owned and operated ATHBRO Precision Engineering Corp. on River St. in Southbridge later moving to its own facility on Hall Road in Sturbridge employing more than 50 people. ATHBRO was known for their precision machine work, for both private industry and the Department of Defense building guidance and navigation systems for US Navy submarines, and NASA's Gemini and Apollo spacecraft and most notably Apollo 11 Sea of Tranquility, which made the first manned landing on the moon on July 20, 1969. He held several patents, including one for making an air-bearing table that measures roundness to a millionth of an inch. He later opened TOBERT Industries in Southbridge manufacturing Turbon Industrial mixers. After retiring, for the next 13 years he was a substitute teacher at Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School in Charlton teaching machining, sheet-metal, drafting, carpentry, and cabinetry. Christo enjoyed golf and was a member of Cohasse Country Club, Southbridge Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and St John Paul II Parish. An avid cribbage player, most recently he loved to play bingo. His remarkable memory and wit remained with him until his passing. The family would like to thank the staff at CareOne at Milbury. His funeral will be held on Monday, Oct. 23rd, from the Daniel T. Dudley: Theresa I. (Chabot) Trudeau, 97, of Old Southbridge Rd. , passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Saturday, Sept. 23rd, after an illness. Her beloved husband of 39 years, Ernest A. Trudeau died in 1985. Theresa leaves her two daughters, Doris I. Racicot and her husband Ray "Boy" of North Grovernordale, CT and Denise L. Dias and her husband Theodore of Whitinsville; her two grandchildren, Paul Trudeau and Gregory Racicot; and two great grandchildren, Noel and Greg. Theresa was born in Dudley the daughter of Napoleon and Eglantine (Bousquet) Chabot. She worked for several years at the American Optical Company in Southbridge prior to raising her family. During WWII Theresa volunteered for the Red Cross assisting with making bandages for the wounded soldiers. She was a devote Catholic and member of St. Stephen Church in Quinebaug, CT. Theresa enjoyed sewing, yardwork and refinishing furniture. Ceramics was her greatest passion of 30 years at Jessie's ceramics in Sturbridge. She was great at anything she set her mind at doing. Theresa's true love and passion was her family. She cherished all her time spent with her family. (Snay) Butler; his sons, David Butler and his wife Debbie of Charlton and William Butler and his wife Debbie of Sturbridge; his two daughters, Donna Williams and her husband James of Charlton and Catherine Cloutier and her husband Keith of Charlton; his brother Donald Butler and his wife Joyce of Long Island, NY; his brother-in-law, Robert Snay and his wife Erica of Cherry Valley; his five grandchildren, Bruce Butler of Charlton, Steven Butler of Charlton, William "little Bill" Butler and his wife Julianna of Sturbridge, Kaitlyn Cloutier and her companion Jake Boucher of Charlton and Benjamin Butler of Florida; his six great grandchildren, Kelly, Jamie, Joselyn, Jaxen, Madison and Elias. He was predeceased by his two sons, James Butler in 2011 and Robert Butler in 2018. Clarence was born in Charlton the son of Alphonse and Irene (Doris) Butler. Clarence was a very hard worker no matter what job he took on. He owned and operated Butler Truck Tire for over 25 years. After retirement he worked at Ted's Package Store in Charlton for several years. He loved working with the public and he passed on his work ethic to his children and grandchildren. He always picked them up when they fell. Clarence love deep sea fishing, lake fishing, boating, weekend barbecues, gardening, and working outside. He loved spending time with his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His smile would light up the room when he saw them. Southbridge: Steven M. Desmarais, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 17th. He leaves his wife of 39 years, Michele A. "Shelley" (Latour) Desmarais; his son, Josh C. Desmarais and his wife Nicole of Brookfield; his daughter, Judith R. Desmarais of Southbridge; his grandson, Henry Desmarais; his mother, Yvette (Blanchette) Desmarais of Southbridge; his three brother-in-laws, Louis Latour and his wife Marcia of Southbridge, James Latour and his wife Sue of Ocean City, MD and John Latour and his wife Christine of Woodstock; his two sister-in-laws, Marilyn Pollone and her companion Joe Dean of Southbridge and Emily Cournoyer and her husband Paul of Dudley; and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Southbridge the son of the late Armand J. Desmarais. Steven worked for Polar Beverages in Worcester for 43 years. He started as a truck driver and eventually becoming the VP of Transportation, retiring this past April. Steven served on the Board of Directors of the Worcester Community Action Council. He was the former Commissioner of the Southbridge Airport. Steven loved most things with motors; trucks, motorcycles and planes. His funeral will be held on Thursday, Aug. 24th, from the Daniel T.
