Joey L Milburn, 64, of Harrodsburg, died of heart failure on Friday, Oct 6, 2023, in Hospice care at the home of his daughter in Lawrenceburg Born October 25, 1958, Joey was the son of the late Joe and Roxie Huffman Milburn of Harrodsburg, and a life-long resident of Mercer County until the last few months when he lived in Citrus Springs, Florida with his partner, April Van Vleet In addition to his partner, Joey is survived by four daughters: Jessica Milburn Banner (Carl), of Simpsonville, Lauren Milburn Samuels (Ben), of Lawrenceburg, McKenna Milburn Searcy (Max), of Danville, and Tevis Milburn Aurelia (Ronin), of Danville; step-daughters, Kristin Combs Birk (George), of Lexington, and Kyleigh Combs of Gray Hawk; grandchildren, Noah and Kora Beasley, Tyler Samuels, Salem and Pearl Searcy, and Theodore Aurelia, and step-grandchildren, Madi and Simon Long, Gavin Holiday and Zane Combs, Harper and Eliot Fredericks, and Jasmyne Estes, Wyatt Banner, Waylon Banner, Ava Banner and Corbin Jaggers, along with a multitude of friends and extended family Joey spent his early childhood in Cornishville, then moved to Harrodsburg where he became an outstanding high school basketball player, helping to earn multiple division titles for the Mercer County Scotties during his tenure and achieving a scoring record which remained unbroken from his graduation in 1977 for nearly 30 years He was inducted into the 12th Region Boys Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023 in recognition of his 1,929 career points and 1,123 career rebounds After high school, Joey was recruited to play for Transylvania University where he earned a BA in Health and Physical Education and ultimately a Masters degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 1993 Joey always had a heart for children and young people and so his vocational life included Director positions at both the Boy Scouts of America and Shriner's Hospital in Lexington, but his passion was coaching basketball which he did at Jackson City Schools from 1987-1990 and in the Harrodsburg District, where he taught and coached girls basketball, then the Mercer County District, where he also taught PE and Health, coached baseball and golf, and started and developed the first certified Archery team in the district's history For nine years he taught in the Day Treatment Program at Harrodsburg Schools, working closely with students needing special support and encouragement, where he made a significant impact helping them achieve academic success and personal growth He continued that work after the city and county schools merged, teaching English at Mercer Central Joey retired from teaching in 2014 and spent much of the last few years of his life traveling and spending time with his much beloved grandchildren; he gained special joy from watching his grandson, Noah, play basketball Joey was a lifelong fan of Kentucky Wildcat Basketball and had a deep and abiding passion for music He loved the beach, loved Jesus, and loved his family and will be deeply missed by those who loved him so dearly A memorial service will be held for Joey on Thursday, October 12, at the Mercer County Middle School gymnasium Visitation will be from 4-6 pm followed immediately by the service In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner's Hospital in his name The address is: Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Philanthropy, 110 Conn Terrace, Lexington, Ky 40508 Arrangements entrusted to Sims Funeral Services of Harrodsburg, KY

Tony A. Lewis, 78, died Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born April 1, 1945 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Pagie and Loamie Alice Claunch Lewis. He was a retired Mechanic at James River Corporation/Dixie Cup and loved playing cards, fishing, and farming. Survivors include two daughters: Kris (Sharon) Lewis of Lawrencebur and Shelly (Leon) Lewis-Young of Harrodsburg; one son Christopher (Tammy) Hughes of Junction City; three brothers: Charles Lewis, Pagie (Sandy) Lewis, and Kenny Whiteside all of Harrodsburg; one sister Linda Watts of Harrodsburg, and six grandchildren: Johnny, Rachael, Dominique, DeVant'e, and Tariq (Bitty), and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by one son Tony Keith Lewis; three brothers: Glenn, Buford, and Melvin Bruce Lewis; four sisters: Bea Devine, Opal French, Elizabeth Hayslett, and Barbara Hodge; and his first wife Vernon Jo Lewis. Barbara Long Hendren, 84, of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, passed away on December 5, 2023, in Harrodsburg. She was born on December 27, 1938, in Harrodsburg, to the late Ann Marie Long and Henry Clay Long. Barbara had a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse at Haggin Memorial Hospital, where she worked in every department at one time or another. Her dedication and passion for helping others was evident throughout her career. In her free time, Barbara enjoyed sewing and embroidered Christmas stockings for each family member. She was also a proud member of the Gideon's Auxiliary. Barbara was a devout Christian and a long-time member of Ebenezer Church of Christ. Her faith in Jesus Christ remained strong until the end, as she often sang "Oh how I love Jesus" while in the hospital bed. Barbara was blessed with a happy marriage to her loving husband, C. Dalton Hendren, for 65 years. She was his biggest supporter and cherished their time together. Barbara is survived by her husband, C. Dalton Hendren; her children, Debra (Dennis) Gordon, Shelli (Don) Engler, and Rebekah (David) Walton; her grandchildren, Kourtney (Blake) Shewmaker, Matthew (Jenna) Gordon, Aaron (Stephanie) Zweifel, Ashleigh Walton, Elisabeth Walton, and Jim Engler; and her great-grandchildren, Amelia Zweifel, Gentry Gordon, and Sawyer Gordon. A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Ransdell Funeral Chapel in Harrodsburg, KY. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM at the same location. A private burial service will take place at Ebenezer Church of Christ Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Gideon's Auxiliary and the Morning Pointe staff. Freddie Herald, 81, husband of Thirty Years to Angelia Ervin Herald, died Sunday, December 3, 2023 at his residence. Born September 9, 1942 in Booneville, he was the son of the late Richard "Dick" and Ella "Ellie" Sandlin Herald. Freddie was a United States Air Force Veteran and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Entomology and his Masters Degree/Association of American Plant Food Control Officials in Medical and Veterinary Entomology. He retired from the University of Kentucky as Coordinator of the Inspection Program after having served thirty-two years; eleven of which were in the Entomology Department and seventeen years with the Division of Regulatory Services. He was recognized nationally for his contribution to inspection programs by the Association of American Plant Food Control Officials. He was also a member of St. John's Masonic Lodge #125 F&AM where he served as Treasurer for twelve years, was a member of Fort Harrod Bee Club of Harrodsburg, and he was an avid UK Basketball Fan. Survivors besides his wife include one daughter: Alyssa (Brian) Canupp of Cynthiana, two bonus daughters: Denese (Erik) Demonbreun of Harrodsburg and Tracey (the late Robby) Stopher also of Harrodsburg; one sister Addie (Jesse) Johnson of Booneville; six grandchildren: Marshall Canupp and Mary Canupp both of Cynthiana, Aleah O'Cull of Lexington, and Kelsey Stopher, Madelyn Stopher, and Addison Stopher all of Harrodsburg and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Robby Stopher; two sisters: Doris Burchfield and Buelah Harris; and four brothers: John, Junior, Bobby, and Kenneth Murrell. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P. M. Friday December 8, 2023 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Bro. Stephen Brogli officiating. Alma K. Bragg, 74, Harrodsburg, KY, widow of Cordell Bragg, died Monday, November 20, 2023, at Morning Pointe Senior Living in Danville. Born July 24, 1949, in Duff, TN, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Alta (Ayers) Marlowe. She was a member of the Junction City Baptist Church and was attending The Carpenter's Christian Church. Alma was a secretary for the Department of the Navy and then for the Wilson Appraisal Group and Randy Couch State Farm Insurance Company. Survivors include: a daughter: Christine Bragg (Bill) Knable of Bradenton, FL and a son: Steven F. (Tonya) Bragg of Burgin, KY; a sister: Joyce Marlowe of Knoxville, TN and three brothers: Robert Marlowe of Oak Ridge, TN, Malcolm (Delores) Marlowe of Corbin, KY and David (Beth) Marlowe of Duff, TN; she also has five grandchildren: William Knable, III, Jackson Roland, Jonathan Roland, Bowen Cordell Bragg and Christina Grace Bragg. In addition to her husband, Cordell, Alma was preceded in death by two brothers: Wade & Curtis Marlowe and a granddaughter: Alexandria Knable.
