Joelene Williams Bookwalter, 76, died Saturday May 6th 2023 at her Bloomington home with her family at her side. Joelene was was born January 30th, 1947, in Louisville Kentucky, to Beverly Leah Powell and Dan Sherman Crawford. Joelene loved her family and helping those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction she was involved in Alcoholics Anonymous and the Amethyst House for abused women and was one of the founders of the AA program in Bloomington Indiana. Joelene loved spending time with everyone from all walks of life and had what was described as a loving-caring "bubbly" personality and was always seen as a wise and understanding person when you talked to her. In 1965, Joelene graduated from the old High School College Building on what is known now as Seminary Square which burnt down in 1967. Joelene also attained her nursing license and practiced assisted nursing in Bloomington and surrounding areas after graduating at the Anderson School of Practical Nursing. Joelene was married 4 and half times. The fourth being one gentleman that was already married without her knowledge, least to say that didn't last long. She was an avid reader and hobbyist and active member her entire life with the 12/24 Club, serving as a life coach and sponsor online and in person for many people across the world such as in places like Ireland, South America, Europe and the United States. Other hobbies included scrapbooking, crocheting, making wreaths from the wild, helping others, camping, and also loved going to Beaver Dam and Lake Palestine in Northern Indiana to spent time with her family. Joelene's immediate family is survived by her son Micheal (Mike) Joseph Williams, her grandson Matthew (Matt) Curtis Williams, her nephew Chuck Brown, her niece Venessa Wright, Venessa's daughter Misty and her husband Derrick, also survived is her half brother Arivine Crawford. Joelene was also survived by her best life long friend Helene Kovach and her life partner Bob Shaw. At this time the family would like to thank her main caregiver "Grace" whom worked at Elders Journey Home Care and assisted Joelene in her daily life when family could not, along with others of the program in the assisted living program. She was preceded in death by her Mother Beverly Crawford and her Sister Leota (Sissy) Crawford Brown which she spoke of often through stories and memories. Joelene especially will be remembered for her beautiful compassionate, loving and understanding demeanor and willingness to help and assist the needy and those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, she would always put others first before herself and keeping her family morally strong for each other.
