Dottie Morgan

Age - 90

October 17, 2023

Mary D. Morgan (Dottie) was born in Montezuma, GA to the late Archibald and Early Barfield. She was a successful entrepreneur, mother of five, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Dottie and Joe were avid antique hunters and spent many happy weekends roaming around the Southeast visiting antique stores and estate sales. She was also a talented furniture refinisher. Dottie started her sales career in her late thirties working in the women's department in the South Atlanta Sears & Roebuck department store. In her late forty's she opened the Executive Image, a woman executive's clothing store, in Phipps Plaza Mall in Atlanta. Later she purchased and refurbished a building in Buckhead and moved the Executive Image into her new building. Her middle daughter Ann was diagnosed with brain cancer in her thirties. Ann and her three children moved in with Dottie and Joe and lived there until she passed away when she was 41. During the last years of Ann's life, Dottie liquidated her store, sold the building, and retired to care for Ann. After Ann passed away, Joe and Dottie took custody of their three grandchildren. They raised their grandchildren in their sixties. On top of her many other talents, Dottie was an excellent cook and loved to entertain. We had many happy family parties in her house. After the grandkids moved out in adulthood, Dottie really started making desserts using recipes from her mother, including German Chocolate cake and pecan pies, and sharing them with her neighbors and friends. She also gave cooking lessons on making pecan pies to many of her grandchildren. Later, Joe and Dottie moved from their Roswell house into a residential living facility. After Joe's fall that resulted in a broken neck and following death from pneumonia, Joe (III) and Keith decided to move Dottie to Washington close to Keith's house in Kent, WA. Dottie passed away on March 5, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe and daughter, Ann. She is survived by four children, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 4 in Vienna City Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201.
