Joanne Jarrett, 92, of Bartonville, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023. She was born on March 8, 1931 in Peoria, to Herman and Madeleine (McReynolds) Meardy. She married Carl W. Jarrett on April 9, 1949 in Bartonville. He preceded her in death in 2001. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter, Linda "Lynn" Marie Hohenbery, and a brother, William Meardy. Surviving are her two grandsons, Curtis (Jennifer) Hohenbery of Ottawa and Chad Hohenbery of Bartonville, son-in-law, Ronald (Susan Vonk) Hohenbery of Chillicothe; and two great-grandsons, Weston and Ryker. Joanne worked as a hostess with Bergners, Carson Pirie Scott and then with McDonald's before retiring after 17 years. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Bartonville and enjoyed playing cards, fishing in Wisconsin with her husband, taking care of her grandchildren and other kids, and was an avid reader. A funeral service will be at 2 pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 with visitation one hour prior to the service at Davison-Fulton-Bartonville Chapel. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville. Memorials may be made to the Community Foundation of Illinois to benefit the Linda Hohenbery Scholarship fund. Jack Wayne Nevitt, age 86, of Peoria. Passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023 at 3:46 p. m. in Peoria. He was born Jan. 31, 1937 in Peoria to John and Genevieve (Cheesman) Nevitt. He married Marlene Watts on April 14, 1956 in Peoria. She passed away Oct. 11, 2019 in Peoria. He is also preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Andrew Mercer, and one great-grandson, Samuel Roesler. Survivors include three children: Doug (Linda) Nevitt of Peoria, Debbie Nevitt of Joliet, IL, Vickie (Dan) Mika of Mexico, MO, five grandchildren: Angela, Matthew, Erica, Katelynn, and Alexis. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren: Jaydan, Jackson, Nora, Lux, Chance, Jacob, Matthew, Sadie, Elizabeth, Samuel, Sawyer, one sister, Sandra (Rod) Nelson of Kingman, AZ. and two brothers: Gerald (Phyllis) Nevitt of Peoria, Michael Nevitt of Peoria. Jack graduated from Manual Training School in 1955. He first worked for Laidlaw Wire Company and then was a Tool and Machine Designer for Caterpillar, Inc. for 32 years retiring Jan. 1, 1993. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved playing cards. After retiring, he spent much of the next 25 years traveling and camping with his wife, Marlene, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023 at 11 a. m. at the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Officiating will be his granddaughter, Rev. Angela Nevitt-Meyer. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.Show more

Carol J. Schick, 89, formerly of Bartonville, IL, passed away at 1:28 PM on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Pekin Manor in Pekin, IL. Carol was born on August 31, 1934, the first daughter of Carl and Tena (Rook) Cape. She married Melvin "Tony" Schick on May 31, 1952. They were married for 60 years until his death in 2012. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Phyllis Wiebler. Carol is survived by her children, Scott Schick of Annapolis, MD and daughter, Lori Glenzinski of Morton, IL. Grandchildren include, Ashleigh Trine of Peoria, Hayley Schick (Ian) Wright of Pennsylvania, and Juliet Schick of Maryland, and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Kathy Cape of Bartonville, IL, and many nieces and nephews. When Carol retired in 1995 from Caterpillar, she and Tony began 20 or more years of new adventures traveling with their 5th wheel to Mission, TX and becoming "Winter Texans". They enjoyed the many friends made near and far and in the summer they continued weekend camping trips with the Good Sams Local Club. She also enjoyed her 5 years that she lived at Heartis Village of Peoria. Earl Eugene Higgins, 89, of Bartonville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2023 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Earl was born on May 10, 1934 to Clyde Higgins & Ellen (Berry) Higgins in Peoria. After graduating from Manual High School in 1952, he played minor league baseball with the St. Louis Browns and Cleveland Indians organizations, as well as serving in the United States Army. Following his time in the service, Earl went to work at Keystone Steel & Wire company where he worked for 30 years before retiring in 1984. Post retirement, he worked for several years as a school bus driver, and then as a member of the custodial crew at Limestone Community High School where he worked for an additional 20 years. In 1971, he met Margaret (Peggy) Conrad, and they wed on November 12, 1971. Earl and Peggy were married 52 years and enjoyed countless joyous times throughout their lives together. Throughout his life, Earl had a passion for sports, and spent 40 years coaching youth baseball and basketball on numerous levels in the central Illinois area. Countless young lives were influenced by Earl throughout the years. Earl also served as the scoreboard operator at Illinois Central College for 16 years for men's and women's basketball games. Earl was a loyal Bradley basketball fan, holding season tickets for over 30 years; as well as a lifetime St. Louis Cardinals fan. The only thing that he loved more than his sports teams was being a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Earl was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Peggy, his eldest son, Richard of Peoria, his adopted son Christopher of Lacon, his youngest son Michael and daughter-in-law Tiffany of Washington, and his grandchildren, Ryan Higgins, Austin Higgins, Allisyn Higgins, Drew Higgins, and Connor Higgins. A Visitation will be held at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel on Sunday, November 26 from 1:00 p. m. to 3:00 pm. Earl requested a celebration of life be held in his honor as opposed to traditional funeral services. We request all of Earl's family and friends to join us in celebrating his life at the Bartonville American Legion Post #979 following the visitation. Star Marie Muni, 75, of Bartonville, Illinois passed away May 5, 2023, at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. Star was a beloved Christian lady, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. After "fighting the good fight and staying the course", she went home to be with the Lord. Star was born December 7th, 1947, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She grew up in Clinton, Iowa graduating from Clinton High School in May 1966. Star married the love of her life, Roy Muni, on July 8th, 1969. In addition to being survived by her spouse of almost 54 years, she has two children: Laura (Tim) Glaue and Michael (Michelle) Muni; three grandchildren Miranda Glaue, Ethan Muni, Michaela Muni; and three younger brothers: Neil (Kathy) Bender, Curt (Marla - deceased) Bender, and Brent (Rhonda) Bender who still survive. Star is preceded in death by her adored parents Glenn and Astyre Cole. Star had a desire to be at her "heavenly home" with her Lord Jesus Christ and took on many ministries in leading up to that goal. Star was a member of Fellowship Bible Church in Peoria, Illinois and was the head of women's ministry, led bible studies, was a youth group leader, and helped with Vacation Bible School. Star was a participant in short-term missions as well - her most memorable being the 1995 trip to Paris, France. She taught at East Peoria High School and worked at the South Side Mission. Star was an assistant chaplain at the Methodist Medical Center (Carle Health). She was a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls which teaches leadership training through community service. This is a celebration of Ronald Walter Hertz of Bartonville, Illinois, born on August 5, 1942, died on August 20, 2023. Ron went to sleep with his loving wife of 56 years and awoke in Heaven with Jesus, his Lord and Savior. Ron was 81 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Sr. and Ilene (Robertson) Hertz. Ron is survived by his wife, Fern (Allen) Hertz, his daughters, Teri Finley (and Evan), and Toni Hertz, his siblings, JoAnn Willet (and Paul), Tom Jr Hertz, Chuck Hertz (and Sue), 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Ron served honorably in the United States Navy and worked at CILCO until he retired in 1996 as a power plant control-room operator. At CILCO Ron also served as a Union representative for years. Ron's love for his wife and his family was clear for all to see, but his greatest passion was his faith in Jesus. He devoted himself to scripture study every morning, daily prayer, sharing his faith, and was a member of Faith Missionary Church, where he served in several capacities over the years. His friendly, humorous, and embracing personality made him a masterful greeter, exuding warmth and genuine love for people. Ron and Fern were married on June 3rd, 1967, at Faith Missionary Church. They maintained a deep and passionate relationship throughout their marriage. Ron was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. Ron was a conservationist and enjoyed the outdoors, seeing God's creation up close. With one daughter in Fort Collins, Colorado and the other in Alabama, now in Decatur, Illinois. Ron and Fern traveled to both locations several times a year to be with family. Throughout his years Ron had a contagious sense of humor, and was known to fight for what he felt was right. The world is a lesser place without this man of God. A funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 26, 2023 with visitation from 9:00 am until the start of the service at Faith Missionary Church in Bartonville. Pastor Craig Hislope will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria. Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
