Joann E. Marshall, 86, of West Burlington, died Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Danville Care Center. Born June 10, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of Lewis and Mary Ethel (Baggs) Schlag. She was a 1955 graduate of Burlington High School and attended the Cook County, Illinois Nursing School from 1956-1959. She married Marvin Leroy Marshall on November 27, 1964 in Burlington. He died August 12, 2017. Joann worked as a Registered Nurse for Burlington Medical Center for over 35 years until her retirement in 1997. She continued with her nursing career from 1997-2012 helping out at various facilities. She was of the Methodist faith. Joann was an avid quilter and loved to sew. She made several bridal dresses and redid upholstery. She was a self-taught "handy-woman" and was never afraid to tackle any challenge. She started and completed many building projects on her own. Joann was a selfless person, very caring and giving and would not think twice about going without something to make sure someone else had what they needed. She loved reading a good romance novel and in her later years, came to appreciate researching the internet. Survivors include her four children; Tim (Carol) Marshall of West Burlington, Eric Marshall and Brenda Dickey both of Burlington and Steve (Rockzann) Marshall of Danville; two step-sons Mark (Sandy) Marshall of Des Moines and Mike (Debbie) Marshall of Stockton, Missouri; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Robert Marshall, daughter Jennifer Diewold and brother Fred Schlag. The graveside funeral service and interment for Joann will be 2:00 p. m. Thursday, June 23rd at Greenwood Cemetery, West Burlington. Pastor Dean Graber will officiate. A celebration of life will follow at the Burlington Gym. A memorial has been established for St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
