Gus Metros

Gus Metros

Age - 86

November 27, 2023

Gus Metros passed away on November 24, 2023 at the age of 86. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Beverly, his son Craig ( Kelly) and his daughter, Wendy (Gary) Meyer. He was the proud Papou of Ava and Jack. He is also survived by his sister Diane Bageris, his brother William "Bee" Metros and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Bessie Metros. Gus was born on September 3, 1937 in Dearborn, Michigan. He received an Associate's Degree from Henry Ford Community College where he met the love of his life, Beverly Miller. The two married on August 27, 1961 in Oklahoma City where Gus was stationed in the United States Army. Gus and Bev had two children and raised their family in Dearborn. Gus worked for 30 years at General Motors as a draftsman and later as an engineer in the company's Overseas Division. This position gave him the opportunity to see the world including Greece, Taiwan, Iran, Africa, and South America. He had a work ethic that was unmatched. At various stages of his career at GM, Gus also owned two car washes; a waterbed store; a popcorn wagon that he used for art fairs and festivals; a snow removal business; a lawn care service; he sold Christmas trees; he cut and sold firewood, and sometimes he worked at a catering company. He had countless jobs and yet always made it home for dinner at 5:30 pm every single evening. He was meticulous about his house, his cars and his lawn. He was an auto enthusiast, a boater, a Coca-Cola and antiques collector and could quite frankly fix anything around the house. Family was everything to him and he loved nothing more than to be seated at a big table with the Metros and Bageris families eating and telling stories. He loved being a dad and later in life he loved being a Papou. He became a front row fixture at every Bloomfield High School Theater Production and could not wait to see Ava and Jack perform. He was beyond proud of his children and grandchildren and he was extremely proud to be Greek. Gus was an absolute legend and loved by so many. We will miss him greatly. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 27 at AJ Desmond & Sons, 32515 Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak from 2pm to 8pm with a Trisagion Service at 7pm. Elaine Bryant

Elaine Bryant

Age - 91

November 25, 2023

Elaine May Bryant, called Lainey, was born on May, 2, 1932 in London, England. She leaves behind her beloved children, Cynthia (Rainer), Ron (Sharon), Claire (Glen), and Jill (Bob); grandchildren, Mona (Florian), Ben (Susan), Tim (Christ'l), Bronwyn (John), David (Mareike), Emma (Evan), Fiona (Kekoa), Sam, Dustin, and Trevor; and great-grandchildren, Juri, Eda, Selma, Etta, and Merle. She was predeceased by her husband, Den. Lainey's childhood was defined by her experiences during WWII as a seven-year-old child evacuee out of London. One wartime memory captured what was essentially Lainey--as a child evacuated to a northern city in England, wearing a dirty, old dress and having to eat her meals on the floor, was still able to admire the history of the world around her. She recalled seeing a Roman wall and thinking, wow, that is so old. This led to a lifelong defense of children in peril and her curiosity and reverence for history. She emigrated to the United States with her husband and two young children in 1957 and settled in Pontiac, Michigan, where she looked after her growing family, returned to school, and became politically active in the civil rights and anti-war movement during the Vietnam war. Having little formal education as a child, Lainey became a voracious reader with a hunger for lifelong learning. She returned to school while her children were still at home, eventually enrolling in Oakland University where she studied history and anthropology and received a Master's in Guidance and Counseling followed by a Master's in Social Work from Wayne State University. She worked for many years at Oakland County Friend of the Court, advocating for children in child custody disputes. Her deep respect for education and learning still resonates to this day with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As a grandmother, Lainey had no equal. She deeply loved all her grandchildren and involved herself in their lives, however far away they lived, and daily interacted with her nearby grandkids. Every one of them will remember her for her cooking (and the large cache of butter in her freezer). She avidly encouraged all their educational and avocational aspirations, hated their cellphones, and loved attending any event, meet, or game they were involved in. Throughout her life, Lainey was politically active with a righteous fury and resoluteness that found its focus in child advocacy. She had many wonderful friendships, often forged through shared political activism. In her sixties, she joined a gym and discovered a passion for exercise that lasted the rest of her life. Lainey had the rare privilege of observing, firsthand, a significant moment in history, which shaped and informed her life. She was our brilliant, beautiful, impossible, beloved Lainey, who will be greatly missed.Show more
