Tony Pecoraro

Tony Pecoraro

Age - 98

November 8, 2023

Tony Pecoraro, age 98, of Maryland Heights, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at his home, of natural causes, living independently until the end. He was born August 10, 1925, to Filippo and Grazia (nee: Passanante) Pecoraro. He married his only love, Betty Joan Conklin, on April 15, 1951. They had 46 fun and loving years together before Joan passed away from pancreatic cancer. Together they raised nine children. Beloved husband of the late Betty Joan (nee; Conklin) Pecoraro; adored father of Tony (Mary), Laura (Gary) Ambersley, Fran (Dave) Wirtz, Jim (Sheree), Joyce (Bob Miller), JoAnn (Nick) Martorelli, John, Steve (Laura), and Gina (Phil Ramirez); dear brother of Joe, and the late John, Patrice Tallo, Frances Bowman, Phil, Bill Patterson, and Frank Patterson; adored grandfather to 23, and one deceased grandson Scott A. Wirtz; great-grandfather to 33; great-great-grandfather to one; brother-in-law, uncle, god-father, friend, and mentor to many. Tony was a WWII veteran of the United States Navy where he served on the USS Honolulu, CL48, and was awarded six battle stars during his 15 months in the South Pacific, 1943-1945. After Tony was discharged, he worked for the Chase Candy Company and played baseball for the company. Tony loved talking about how the candy was stretched, dyed, and twisted into old-fashioned Christmas candy designs. He was the youngest designer to make the candy and was proud of his creations. Tony later worked for and retired from the National Record Center in St. Louis. In retirement, Tony continued his side business, TP Printing Services, where he provided printing for local businesses, friends, and family. He was a life member of VFW Post #1300, Granite City, IL; American Legion, Maryland Heights; DAV, Chapter 53, St. Louis County; Knights of Columbus Fatima Council #4429, Hazelwood; NARFE (National Assn. of Retired Federal Employees) Chapter 1240. Tony had many passions in his long life span. An avid competitor, Tony loved bowling, playing softball, basketball, horseshoes, washers, and slot machines. There were many years of competitive playing in the backyard. Tony also found joy in dancing, coin collecting, gardening, and cooking Sicilian sausage, Brucciloni, and meatballs along with his famous spaghetti sauce. Family reunions would not be the same without his BBQ Ribs soaked in sauce until the meat fell off the bone. His home improvement projects were epic. Tony's home had everything he needed for his large family because he built it himself. As his children left the home, you would find Tony helping them with their homes. He loved watching Cardinal baseball, fishing, and boating, but mostly loved having his family close by and united. He started the annual Pecoraro Family reunion in the early 70s, at his home, until it grew too big then moved to a park. Christmas Eve at the Pecoraro home with family and friends was packed and the smell of meatballs and sausage simmering on the stove drifted through the home. Weeks before Christmas Tony made his famous Sicilian sausage to gift to others. To this day, the sausage-making tradition has continued with the sons, sons-in-law, and several grandchildren. If you met Tony, you wanted to be around him more and hear the stories of his younger years in the 30's and 40's, his war stories, or get his advice and strong opinion on so many topics he was an expert on. He is a self-educated man and one of the wisest. He has passed on his wisdom to all who were fortunate enough to listen. He believed in showing affection, expressing his love in words and hugs and kisses. Family, cooking, sport, helping one another, love, and loyalty are the legacy Tony Pecoraro has left behind. He will never be forgotten! We will miss him dearly but know he is now with his heavenly father and reunited with his wife, family, and friends. Memorial Contributions may be made to: www. Joan Baggett

Joan Baggett

Age - 78

October 18, 2023

Joan Baggett (nee Shoemake) of Maryland Heights, Mo passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2023 surrounded by family. Joan had unconditional love for her family and friends. She was kind hearted and had an extraordinary sense of humor. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her grandkids, and within the past couple of years becoming a GiGi to Ahlanni and Bentley. They brought her so much happiness. Three weeks ago, Joan was so excited when she met her third great-grandchild, Brynlee. The smile that was on her face as she looked at her for the first time was priceless. Joan worked many years as a caregiver to the elderly. Caring for others came naturally and she always treated her patients with respect and empathy. Country music brought a lot of joy to Joan's life. She loved the old Honky Tonk style country music. If you got in the car with Joan, you were going to hear some Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Sr. or George Jones, and probably even a little Boxcar Willie. Joan always had a soft spot for dogs. Most of her life she had dogs of her own but in these later years she loved dog sitting her "grand-dogs". She loved it when they would get up on the bed and cuddle with her. Joan was known to sneak them a treat or two. Joan is survived by her two daughters, Julie Purviance and Jodi Johnson. Her grandkids, Larry Purviance Jr, Keith Johnson, Lindsey (Brendan) Schaefer, and Teddy Johnson. Her great-grandkids, Ahlanni, Bentley and Brynlee. Her sister, Sandy (Lindell) Chilton. Her longtime friends, Vicky and Joyce and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends. Joan will be greatly missed and will have everlasting presence in everyone's hearts. Joan helped people every chance she got throughout her life, so it seemed fitting to us to help a place that we knew did amazing things to help others, just like Joan did. Simple Church is a local church, very special to us and they do many great things within our community. With the help of donations, they assist families throughout our community the entire year but especially during the holidays.
