Joan Sharrot DeRose, 79, of Greensburg, PA died 7 August 2023 at Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg. Born 6 May 1944 in Manhattan, New York City, to the late John D. and Sharrot (Mayer) Henderson, Joan grew up in Glen Rock, New Jersey and attended Bucknell University, majoring in English, graduating with her B. A. in 1966 and M. A. in 1967. She then taught English at the Altoona campus of Penn State University from 1967-1974. It was at Bucknell that Joan met her future husband, P. Louis DeRose. They were married in 1970 and after Lou obtained his law degree they settled in Greensburg. In addition to raising their children, Joan was able to pursue some of her creative interests. She had an artistic eye for everything that she did. Joan loved painting watercolors, gardening, needlework and cooking. Her passion for cooking led to the creation of several cookbooks, including Under Cottage Roofs: A Cookbook, published by the West Beach Club in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts in 1985 and Art in the Kitchen, published by the Westmoreland Museum of Art in Greensburg, Pennsylvania in 1995. She also built, sold and collected doll houses and other miniatures. Her great interest in history, genealogy, and artistic design led her on an interesting journey supporting her local community. She was an accomplished buyer for museum shops and was the museum store manager at the Westmoreland Museum of Art from 2003-2006 after having first volunteered in 1989. She received the Western Pennsylvania Volunteer in the Arts (VITA) award in 2000. Joan’s next endeavor involved work at the Westmoreland Historical Society. She could be counted upon to help research and facilitate the annual tour of homes. She was heavily involved with the creation and running of the Westmoreland Historical Society’s gift shop at Historic Hanna’s Town. Joan has been an Adjunct Instructor in English at Westmoreland Community College since 2007. She loved teaching research methods and creative writing. In August 2012, she won the Part-time Faculty Award for the 2011-2012 school year. Some of Joan’s favorite things to do were spending holidays with her family, taking summer trips to Cape Cod, needlework and enjoying social gatherings with friends. Joan is survived by her husband, P. Louis DeRose of Greensburg; two children, Peter A. (Kelly) DeRose of Bradenton, FL and Catharine S. (Eric) Ackerstrom of Gaithersburg, MD; three grandchildren, Piper, Gage and Matthew (their Gahgie); a brother, Stephen W. (Kathryn) Henderson of Covington, GA; and a brother-in-law, David S. (Johnette) DeRose; a niece and two nephews. Kepple-Graft Funeral Home in Greensburg is handling the arrangements. There will be no formal viewing but a public memorial service at First Presbyterian Church 300 S. Main Street, Greensburg at 3pm on Friday, September 1st. Elide M. (Fiaschetti) Nicola,95, of South Greensburg, died Friday, December 8, 2023. She was born April 25, 1928, in Supino, Italy, a daughter of the late, Pietro and Primina (Tomei) Fiaschetti. She was a member of St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, South Greensburg, Columbia Ladies Lodge, and Rosary Altar Society of the Church. Elide enjoyed sitting on the porch with her lady friends, going to the casino, and most of all cooking for her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Nicola in 2007; sister, Arlene Petroy; and a brother, Lawrence Fiaschetti. She is survived by her two sons, Edward A. Nicola (Janice) and Mark L. Nicola (Doreen); five grandchildren, Amie Reynolds (Rick), Angela Aladjem (Guy), Anthony Nicola (Jade), Rita Nicola, and Angelo Nicola; seven great grandchildren; sister- in- law, Barbara Fiaschetti; brother- in- law, Claude Petroy; and several nieces and nephews. Nylene H. Immel, passed away on November 21, 2023, at the age of 91 in Greensburg. She was born on November 3, 1932, in Johnstown to Joseph and Marguerite (Cunningham) Hutchison. Nylene's compassionate nature touched the lives of everyone she met. She was known for her unwavering kindness and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her presence will be deeply missed by her family and friends alike. One of Nylene's greatest passions was her talent as a seamstress and quilter. She created beautiful bridesmaids and wedding gowns for her daughters' weddings. Countless clothes, quilts, and gifts were lovingly crafted by her hands for her family and friends. Not only was Nylene skilled with a needle and thread, but she also dedicated much of her time to serving Westminster Presbyterian Church. She held the role of Elder and served on both the Parish Life and Worship Committees. Nylene diligently put together the weekly prayer list for the congregation and brightened the lives of shut-ins by providing them with monthly cards filled with love and heartfelt messages. Nylene enjoyed a variety of activities with her husband since his retirement, including traveling the country and golfing. Nylene is a former member of the Norvelt ladies golf league in Mount Pleasant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly Ann McKenna and Bertha Jane Wagner and her son in law, Gilbert Haught. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Richard "Dick" Immel, her daughters: Patricia Haught, Linda Kniskern, Suzanne Runge, and Karen Brailey (Paul); grandchildren: Matthew Haught (Keli), Hunter Kniskern, Tyler and Eric Runge, and Sarah and Megan Brailey; great-grandchildren: Brynn and Jackson Haught; as well as extended family members and dear friends. A memorial service to celebrate Nylene's life will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Westminster Presbyterian Church located at 1120 Harvey Ave, Greensburg, PA 15601. Richard C. Rosensteel, 82, of South Greensburg, died Thursday, November 23, 2023, at his home. He was born July 18, 1941, in Elders Ridge, a son of the late Richard and Beatrice (Wilson) Rosensteel. Prior to retirement he had been a teacher at Thomas Jefferson High School. Rich also coached basketball for many local schools and universities, including Thomas Jefferson High School, Greensburg Central Catholic High School, Mount Pleasant High School, and Seton Hill University. He was very instrumental in getting scholarships for his players and inspiring the lives of many. He was a member of St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, South Greensburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edwina Douglas, and Katherine Hoyt; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Michael and Elizabeth Corsi. Rich is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, F. Nancy Rosensteel; his son, Michael Rosensteel (Nadine); four daughters, Renee Rosensteel (Bill O'Driscoll), Beth Dixon (Robert), Colleen Rosensteel, and Laurel Peters (Sean); seven grandchildren, Claire Petersen, Victoria Dixon, Robert Dixon, Chloe Peters, Cadence Peters, Giavanna Rosensteel, and Dominic Rosensteel; and many good friends. Rev. Dr. Cora Jean Black, a native of New Stanton, PA on November 17, 2023 left her earthly dwelling to enjoy eternal life in Heaven with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She was the daughter of Ruby Isabel Waugaman Black and A. J. Black and the wife of Arthur B. Everett for over 48 years. Cora Jean was a graduate of Hempfield Area Senior High School and Greensburg Business Academy. Additional studies was done with Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Seton Hill University, Westmoreland County Community College and International Bible Institute. Formerly employed at West Penn Power Co. after a few years a call for her FIRST Missionary trip to Spanish Town and Kingston West Indies, as follow-up work of Billy Grahams Crusade in the Islands. After returning to the states, her ministry for the Lord opened across the country; city wide crusades, Radio and TV broadcasting reaching millions weekly, Member BMI: she wrote and recorded Gospel Music "America for Christ; The Joy of Life is Jesus; Christ is coming Are YOU Ready?" on cassette, records, sheet music, and CDs. Soon overseas missionary work unfolded: Hosting eight tour groups to the Holy Lands, Israel, Greece, Rome, Jordan, Africa, Brussels Belgium, preached in Cairo Egypt. Distributed thousand of copies of her personal testimony printed in Chinese, French, Spanish, Arabic, Hebrew, etc. Since 1962, Rev. Cora Jean Black served the area as a Notary Public and Full Agent with Harrisburg for Titles, T-Plates, Mortgages Closings. Counseling Bereavement Facilitator Prison Rehab Ministry - "White Deer" also County and State prison ministries. Most recent: "God Spoke. . . Moses Wrote" which helps with drug deliverance. Her memory is etched in the hearts of nearly 6,000 couples who have been united in Holy Matrimony at America for Christ Ministry Sea-Jay's Wedding Chapel. Currently she served as the International Public Relations Director for Association of International Gospel Assemblies (AIGA); as a member of the Five Orders of the Ladies of the Civil War and Past Regent and member of Daughters of the American Revolution. P. Louis DeRose III, 78, of Greensburg, PA died 14 November 2023 at Redstone Highlands in Greensburg. Born 16 April 1945 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, to the late P. Louis and Antoinette (Salvatore) DeRose, Louis grew up in Arnold, PA and attended Bucknell University, graduating with his B. A. in 1967. He received his Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law, graduating in 1970. It was at Bucknell that Lou met his future wife, Joan, who passed away in August. They were married in 1970 and settled in Greensburg. Lou practiced family law his entire career. He was a 53-year member of the Westmoreland and Pennsylvania Bar Associations and, a former solicitor for Greensburg Salem School District and the City of Greensburg Zoning Hearing Board. His great interest in history led him on a journey supporting his local community. He was the former President of the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor as well as the Westmoreland Historical Society. He loved to research the history of places and things he loved - the Pennsylvania Railroad, New Kensington, Greensburg, and Hyannisport, MA. He even published a book on Greensburg in 2004. In recent years, Lou, with his wife Joan, spent countless hours assisting the Westmoreland Historical Society. He could be found hosting talks about various pastimes or behind the bar serving drinks! Some of Lou’s favorite things to do were spending holidays with family, taking summer trips to Hyannisport Cape Cod, collecting model trains, watching old westerns, and enjoying social gatherings with friends, especially at the Westmoreland Polo and Hunt Club. Lou is survived by two children, Peter A. (Kelly) DeRose of Bradenton, FL, and Catharine S. (Eric) Ackerstrom of Gaithersburg, MD; three grandchildren, Piper, Gage, and Matthew; a brother, David S. (Johnette) DeRose of Latrobe, PA; and a brother-in-law, Stephen W. (Kathryn) Henderson of Covington, GA; a niece and two nephews. The family wishes to thank all those who rendered care to Lou the past ten months and especially Latrobe Select Specialty Care, Redstone Highlands, and Redstone Hospice Care.
