Joan Clopp Obituary

Joan "Joni" Frances Young Clopp age 87, passed away on May 7th, 2023. Joni was born in Flint, Michigan on December 6th, 1935. Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted daughters Susan Clopp Phillips (married to Terry Phillips) and Sharon Clopp Glenn (married to Michael Glenn); and her loving sons Robert John Clopp (married to Shelia Venable Clopp) and Joseph Michael Clopp (married to Jennifer Todd Clopp). She is survived by her sister Judy Young Currie and brother Jerry Young. She is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Joni was born to John Young and Clara Satkowiak Young of Flint, Michigan. She survived polio as a small child and overcame many obstacles in life related to her health. Despite the challenges she faced, she greeted them all with grace and an indomitable spirit. She attended St Michael's Catholic High School and graduated class of 1953. She met and married Robert "Bob" Walter Clopp in 1957 and moved with him to Huntsville, Alabama. Bob and Joni were active founding parishioners at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, active parishioners at St Joseph's Catholic Church and were extensively involved with Marriage Encounter - giving workshops all across the continental United States. They were also residents of Regency Retirement Village where they will be sorely missed. Joni was a devoted mother and wife. She had the uncanny ability to light up any life she touched and was stalwart in faith and counsel. Her ability to make you smile, touch your heart and bring you joy was legendary and magical. She is now reunited, at long last, with her beloved Bob in heaven. Visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2300 Beasley Ave, Huntsville, AL 35816, beginning at 1:00pm on Thursday, May 11, 2023, with Rosary. Funeral Mass to immediately follow at 2:00pm. Interment will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens in the Garden of Valor.
