Joan A. Cheh (Asthalter) of Forestburgh, NY, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at her home. She was 77. The daughter of the late George J. and Pearl Asthalter (Hotchkin), she was born December 6, 1945 in Liberty, NY. Joan graduated Liberty High School in 1964 and then attended Barbizon, School of Fashion in NYC. After settling back in Liberty, NY she proudly worked as her father’s bookkeeper at George J. Asthalter Excavating. Joan enjoyed the simple things in life. She was an artist and her paintings adorned the walls of her family’s homes. She attended the original Woodstock Festival in 1969 and loved to talk about her adventures there. Joan loved to dance and she exemplified the quote; dance like nobody’s is watching. Finally, Joan enjoyed traveling out west with her love of her life, Steen Andersen, where they enjoyed camping, hiking and photographing their experiences. Joan leaves her companion of 39 years, Steen Andersen, at home; her son, E. Christian Cheh of Kingston, NY; her daughter, Alexa Mickelson and her husband Ron of Grahamsville, NY; her beloved grandchildren, Kelgin, Breckin, and Amelia Claire; her sister, Barbara Siegel of Parksville, NY; her daughter-in-law, Heather Cheh; her cherished dog, Phoebe Snow and her adored cat, Rambo to cherish her loving memory. June Somers, a loving and devoted wife, mother, and Mema, passed away peacefully Friday, September 15, 2023 at her home in Forestburgh. She was 76. The daughter of the late Edwin and Mildred (Starr) Price, she was born June 19, 1947 in Monticello. She married Robert Somers at the United Methodist Church in Monticello on October 23, 1965. In addition to her loving husband of 57 years, Robert Somers, at home, she is survived by her son, Glenn Somers (Jennifer); her daughter Dawn Randall (Jay); her grandchildren Adam Randall (Katelyn), Kaitlin Randall (Justin Smith), Carson Somers, and Adisyn Somers. June is also survived by her brother, Ed Price (Gale), sisters-in-Law Marilyn Bastone (Dennis) and Carol Panchysyn; brother-in-law Russell Somers (Jill) as well as several nieces and nephews; and many close friends. In addition to her parents, June was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Baird. June deeply loved her family and friends as well as her beloved little dogs. Her grandchildren held the most special places in her heart. June was a true people person, could carry a conversation with anyone, and made fast friends wherever she went. She had a wonderful sense of humor and brought love and laughter to all who knew her. June found great joy in the ocean, sunflowers, the moon, and the stars. These will forever be reminders of her, and June will be deeply missed by loved ones near and far. Obituary of Eugene D. Raponi Eugene D. Raponi of Forestburgh passed away on November 10, 2021. He was the son of the late Eugene and Julia Raponi and was born in Middletown, New York on May 31, 1936. Gene enlisted in the US Marine Corps at age 17 and served during the Korean war. In 1970 he moved to Forestburgh with his wife, Marcia. He worked for Orange and Rockland for 32 years. In 1991 a tragic auto accident rendered him a quadriplegic requiring hospitalization and treatment for seven months. He was determined to remain an active participant in his community, and he ran for a second term on the Forestburgh Town Board, serving as a council member for 26 years. He served as a member of the Forestburgh Planning Board, as a volunteer Forestburgh Fireman and a Sullivan County Democratic Committee member. He was a little league coach, a member of the Monticello Elks Lodge #1544, and the Board of Action Toward Independence. Gene was a past member of United Way Board of Directors and Fontinalis Fly Fishing Club. Gene was an avid outdoorsman and continued to hunt and fish through-out his life. He became a recognized authority on Bald Eagles and built the first nest on Rio Reservoir with Peter Nye. His advice on Sullivan County's natural wildlife was often sought by other naturalists and hunters. Gene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marcia Raponi; his children Suzanne (Gerard) of Beach Lake, PA, Michael (Suzanne) of Atlanta, GA, David (Katie) of Freeport, ME, and Jennifer (Robert) of Irvington, NY; and grandchildren Benjamin, Chelsey, Stella, Wyatt, Matias and Siena. He is also survived by his sisters, Anita, Juanita, Angela (Antonio) and Teresa; and his sisters-in-law, Angela, and Jeanne Saltsman. A life celebration will be held in late spring. Vlamis Anthony Steven Vlamis of Forestburgh, a retired publisher with Prentice Hall in Englewood, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 77.The son of the late Stamatis Vlamis and Anne Dalechek Vlamis, he was born November 9, 1942 in New York City. He later moved to River Vale, NJ where he lived for 21 years, raising his family.Anthony was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a native New Yorker, and published author. A nature lover and outdoorsman, Anthony's favorite pastime was spending time wading in a river or out on a boat fishing. When not on the water, he loved to spend time in his office writing, reading history, and collecting coins. Obituary of Felix Ramon Diaz Felix "Ramoncito" Ramon Diaz of Forestburgh passed away on August 8, 2019. He was 26. He was the son Ramon (Monica) Diaz and Damaris Rodriquez, born on March 5, 1993 in Dominican Republic. Ramoncito enjoyed living life he was always full of energy and always was willing to lend a helping hand. He was a proud graduate of Fallsburg High School Class of 2012. He enjoyed fishing, basketball, motorcycles and video games. He was very artistic and will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
