Jo Ann Horton (Brown) Sunrise - 03/16/1952 Sunset - 09/08/2023 Rev 21:4 - "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. " Jo Ann Horton (Brown) was born in Campedo to James & Daisy Horton and attended Durling Middle School & Clearview High School during her High School years. She was an accomplished Tennis Player and as her life evolved after high school, she had 8 children 5 boys & 3 girls. She attended L. C. C. C where she studied Psychology. She loved being involved with her children playing Football, Baseball, Basketball & Volleyball. She really loves her Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren (We think more than us LOL). As the years went by her entrepreneurial spirit rose & rubbed off on her Children & Grandchildren from selling her crafts to dinners & everything in between! She was a very intellectual & loved human being. In death she leaves behind her children: Edward Brown Jr. (Lawrenceville, GA), Jo Nelle Brown (Lawrenceville, GA), Tyrone A. Brown (Lawrenceville, GA), David L. Brown (Lorain, OH), Eric L. Jack Dean Smith, 80, passed away on November 18, 2023, at Mercy New Life Hospice. Born on April 9, 1943, in Elyria, he spent most of his life in Amherst, also treasuring his time spent with Nancy at their cabin in Wakeman. Jack's career spanned teaching English at various community colleges, including Lorain County Community College, BGSU-Firelands Campus, and Ashland University. He also owned and operated Fireland's Country Store. His passions included writing and immersing himself in poetry, short stories, and essays. He co-founded The Black River Review and found joy in exploring American Indian History, fly fishing, black powder rifle shooting, and land preservation. Jack is survived by his wife of 27 years, Nancy (nee Lincicome) Smith of Amherst; daughters, Amanda (Bryan) Smith of Houston, TX, and Clarissa Smith of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Grant, Addison, and Leif; brother, Alan Smith; as well as Nancy's children and family who embraced and admired him. Preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph and Maxine (nee Fye) Smith. Family and friends are invited to a gathering on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, starting at 11:00 a. m. until a time of sharing at 1:00 p. m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Marilyn J Ashby (nee Raidl), aged 84, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Rae-Ann Nursing Home in Westlake, following an extended illness. Born on April 2, 1939, in Elyria, OH, Marilyn had called Vermilion home for the last 28 years, having relocated from Elyria. Throughout her career, Marilyn dedicated herself to Elyria City Schools as a Secretary, Sears, and Harbourtown Homes Realty, serving as a Realtor for 30 years until her retirement. Active in various community organizations, Marilyn was a former member of Good Sams Chapter 43, the Red Hats Society, Herb Club, and the Board of Directors for Lucy Idol. Her love for travel and camping brought her great joy. Marilyn is survived by her husband of 38 years, David Ashby; daughters, Beth Morales, Sharon (Stephen) Fiege, and Carla (Scott) Hosier, grandson, Kevin Fiege, and grandchildren, Kayla Bowman, Cameron Hosier and Violet Hosier; brothers, Larry (Gheslane) Raidl and Jim Raidl. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Nagy, and her parents, Mathew and Florence (nee Reese) Raidl. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 11:00 am at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron with Father Frank Kosem officiating. Martin Joseph Beursken, aged 91, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Mercy Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was born on November 22, 1931, in Vermilion, OH, where he spent his entire life. Martin proudly served in the US Army as a Medic during the Korean War. His professional journey began at Wakefield Brass in Vermilion and later continued as a dedicated millwright at Ford Motor Company in Lorain until his retirement in 1994. A devout member of St. Mary Catholic Parish in Vermilion, Martin actively participated in the Knights of Columbus. He was also affiliated with IEBW Local #998, where he served as a past president, as well as UAW Local #425 and AMVETS Post #22. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and traveling. He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine (nee Weaver) Beursken, and his daughters: Barbara (Jeff) Wentz, Carol Curtis, and Patricia Williams. Martin will be remembered fondly by his grandchildren: Jon, Craig, Jeffrey, Jason, and Crystal, along with great-grandchildren Kelsey, Trevon, Nevaeh, Lincoln, and James Joseph. He is also survived by his brothers Gerhardt Beursken of Vermilion and David Beursken of Medina, OH, and his sisters: Ann Beursken of Vermilion, Marilyn Schmidt of Birmingham, and Rita Butter of Berlin Heights. Martin was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jean M (nee Horning) Beursken, his parents Gerhardt and Mary (nee Mayer) Beursken, his brother, Carl Beursken, infant brother, John, and his son-in-law, Tom Williams. "Dudley Wilson Nash, age 62 of Lorain, OH passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 8, 2023, from a car accident in Lyman, WY. He was born Nov. 3, 1961, in Geneva, OH to Harry W. Nash and Phyllis J. (Whipple) Peters. Dudley grew up on River Rd in Madison, OH and graduated from Madison High School in 1981. He proudly served in the US Navy from Nov 17, 1981, to April 26, 1988. He spent over 30 years on the road as a truck driver. Loved the Cleveland Browns, Ohio State, and the Cleveland Indians. But his favorite way to spend his time was with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his long-time partner, Debbie Cajka and children, Ashley (Jeff) Smith of FL, Courtney (Charlie) Debevec of AZ, Christopher Nash of Madison, and Markeatta Rucker of Ashtabula. Stepdaughter Michelle (Jim) Jones of Elyria. Grandchildren: Breanna, William, Jacob, Karah-Jade, Emily, Shawn, David, Ellie, Alaina, Jayce, Zoie, and Amiah. Andrew Edward Butti Andrew E. Butti, 89, died unexpectedly at his home, Friday morning, November 10, 2023. He was born to Andrew and Barbara (nee Hornyak) Butti on February 24, 1934 in Norfolk, Virginia while his father was serving in the United States Navy. He lived his entire life in Lorain, OH where he loved living next to Lake Erie. He was an avid Cleveland Guardians and Cleveland Browns fan. During the 2nd World War his dad's ship was damaged and in California for repairs. Andrew's mom took a train to visit him in California. There was a train wreck and his mother was killed. Andrew was only 10 years old and had to repeat the 5th grade. He went to live with his Aunt Julia and Uncle Frank Penzes until 12th grade at Lorain High School when he joined the United States Air Force. Andrew was stationed in El Paso, TX for 3 years where he worked as a clerk typist. His final year, he was transferred to Fairbanks, Alaska where he was needed in the Armed Forces Radio department while he earned high school diploma. Andrew was honorably discharged and got a job as a DJ at WEOL in Elyria. In 1956, Andrew and Denise Meyer were married at St. Anthony's. For 67 years, they had their share of life's joys and sadness. Someone in Cleveland started calling him Jeff Baxter. Jeff met Jack Riley and they hit the airwaves together on July 4, 1962 until 1965. Besides Jeff doing radio work he made commercials. He also did interviews and filmed Cleveland Browns star Jim Brown who introduced him to boxing champion Muhammed Ali. He did a 30-minute program on Channel 5 "A Close Up on Muhammed Ali. " He spent 4 days filming and interviewing him. He spent many years working at WDBN and WHK. Andrew won the Cleveland Radio Certificate of Merit plus 3 Press Club Awards and every major broadcast award in Cleveland. He is survived by his wife, Denise; children, Thomas (Melanie) Butti, Ellen Friend and Lisa (Andy) Drwal; grandchildren, Betsy, Lindsey, Lisa, Justin, Angelique, Anthony (Kaylee); 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Fenik; step-brother, Tim Butti; and step-sister, Lynn Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Michael Butti; and infant grandson, Andrew Drwal Jr. The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from 11:00 AM until the time of funeral services at 1:00 PM, Deacon Paul J. John E. Young, 75, of Paris, Illinois, formerly of Lorain, Ohio, passed away peacefully from this life on Friday, November, 10, 2023, at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living in Chrisman, Illinois. John was born to William E. and Bernice K. (Durrett) Young on January 19, 1948, in Belleville, Illinois. Survivors include a brother, Bill E. (Lisa) Young of Chrisman; and a sister-in-law, Celia Young of Champaign, Illinois. He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Eugene Monroe, his parents, a brother, Robert Young, an identical twin brother, Eugene Young, and a nephew, Eugene Young II. John was drafted into the United States Army in February 1968 during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, and worked as a Hawk Missile Fire Control Crewman. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Expert, and Good Conduct medals. John achieved the rank of sergeant before earning his honorable discharge. John was employed at Ford Motor Company in Ohio for many years and moved back to Paris to take care of his mother upon the passing of his father. John was employed at Save A Lot in Paris for fifteen years where he made many friends. John loved music, telling stories, and spending time with his family.
