Jessie Ellen Miller (Hendricks), 94, of Coshocton passed away on April 22, 2023 at Altercare of Coshocton. Jessie was born on September 26, 1928, near Plainfield to Vernie (Stockum) and John E. Hendricks. An only child, Jessie grew up on a small farm outside Plainfield, but after the death of her mother in 1939, she went to live with various relatives in the Coshocton area. While attending Coshocton High School, Jessie met and began dating Charles H. Miller. She enjoyed being a part of his large, welcoming family. Jessie and Charlie were married in Coshocton on August 30, 1945. They went on to have two daughters, Sheryl and Shelley, to whom Jessie was a devoted, loving, and caring mother. After several years of apartment living in Coshocton, in 1954 the Millers bought land near West Lafayette where they built a house, did some farming, and cared for a small herd of dairy cattle. They sold the farm in 1967 and moved back to Coshocton. The Millers enjoyed camping and owned a series of travel trailers and motor homes over the years. They were longtime members of the Coshocton Campers Club. While her daughters were growing up, Jessie worked for many years as a secretary in the Main Street office of Laborers Local 134. Later she worked for more than 20 years as a switchboard operator at Coshocton Hospital, preferring to work the night shift where she also did admitting. In her free time, Jessie enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts and handiwork but was especially fond of crocheting, sewing, and quilting. Jessie loved both dogs and cats and had many as pets over the years. Jessie was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Charles, who passed away in 1994 and her daughter, Sheryl E. Murray (Larry) of Coshocton, who predeceased her in 2015. She is survived by her daughter, Shelley E. Miller of Ligonier, PA. Jessie is also survived by two grandsons, Kyle S. Murray (Debbie) of West Lafayette and Scott T. Murray (Audrey) of Coshocton; two great grandchildren, Justin A. Murray, Brittany E. Hayes (Nathan), and Alaina Williams, all of Coshocton; and four great great grandchildren, Masyn, Holdyn, and Owyn Hayes of Coshocton and Nova Murray of Dayton. Calling hours will be held at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home on Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, and on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Stewart Royce officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Fairfield Cemetery. Gifts in Jessie's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Altercare of Coshocton. An online memorial can be viewed at www. given-dawson-paisleyfh. com.
