Jesse Matherne Jr Obituary

Jesse Joseph Matherne Jr. passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on April 22, 2023 at the age of 89. He was born on July 16, 1933 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Jesse Matherne Sr. and Ella DeLaune Matherne. Devoted husband of the late Marilyn Camardelle Matherne. Loving father of Cynthia Cuevas (Eddie), Sherry Matherne (Travis), Jan Kosior (Jack), Brad Matherne (Mechelle), Susan Halfen, Stefanie Cuiellette and the late Bryon Matherne (Glenda). Proud grandfather of Bryon Jr. , Ryan, Eddie Jr. , Melissa, Travis, Joel, Jessica, Josh, Mark, Jesse, Brent, Remi, Paris, Caleb and great-grandfather of Carlee, Nathan, Kaitlyn, Sofia, Eddie III, Seth, Corbin, Braelynn, Peyton, Ryan Jr. , Gaige, Ashlyn, Luke, Kollin, Braxtyon, Brantley, Ethan, Rogun and Ayden. Brother of Grace Skinner (John) and the late Jerry Matherne (Nelia) and Joyce Danos (Welton). Jesse is also survived by other extended family and dear friends. Jesse proudly served his country in the Army. He had many talents. He was a master falconer, avid bird watcher, loved reading, music and dancing, painting, fishing and watching the local sports teams. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family, celebrating the 4th of July every year. Jesse had an amazing green thumb. He could grow everything from flowers to vegetables. Jesse was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero and will continue on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 8:30 AM until 11:30 AM. Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, 146 4th St. in Westwego and interment will follow at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery.
