"Jerry L. Dean, 82, of Rimersburg, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at his home. He was born on October 24, 1940 in Fairmount City; son of the late Judson and Mildred Rearick Dean. Jerry married the love of his life, Judith V. Rankin, on June 29, 1963, who preceded him in death on December 15, 2022. He enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jerry is survived by his son, Greg Dean and his wife, Cassima, of Texas; 3 grandchildren, Heather Johnson and her husband, Allan, of Rimersburg, Alison Barger and her husband, Tracy, of Rimersburg, and Kayla Guinn and her husband, Michael, of Texas; and his great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Katelyn, Crystal, Dean, Sherry, Hayes and Asher. Jerry is also survived by his siblings, Madeline Nolf, Richard "Dick" Dean and his wife, L. C. , Carol Foringer, and Janet Blair; along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Jerry was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila G. Johnson and his siblings, Lois Dean and Ronald Dean. James A. Greenawalt Sr. , 73, of Rimersburg died Sunday, November 5, 2023 at his home, in the company of his family. Born December 17, 1949 in East Brady, he was the son of Almon and Marie (Jordan) Greenawalt. Jim attended East Brady High School and spent a 40 year career as a Heavy Equipment Operator for local coal companies. On November 29, 1968, Jim married the former Nancy L. Anthony. Together they enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, whether hunting, gardening, riding quads or spending time with his grandchildren. You could also find him working in his garage, fixing cars. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Greenawalt of Rimersburg and three children, Rhonda Greenawalt of Rimersburg, James (Patsy) Greenawalt Jr. of Rimersburg and Janey "Hip" (Kenneth Allen) Phillips of Rimersburg. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Heather (Bill) Wiant, Jimmy Greenawalt III, Jennifer (Jason) Callender, David McClaine Jr. , Justin Greenawalt and ten great grandchildren, Parker Greenawalt, Maycee Callender, Oaklee Callender, Mercedees Chambers, Jaiven Steele, Hunter Greenawalt, Ryder Greenawalt, Cole Wiant, Dane Wiant and Eli Wiant. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Peg Allshouse, three brothers, Thomas Allshouse, Donald "Greeny" Greenawalt, Russ Greenawalt, and one granddaughter Katie Bobbert. Vincent Mortimer Jr

Vincent Devere Mortimer, Jr. , age 75 years, of Rimersburg, PA, passed-away 10-24-23 at 10:16 am. Born July 13th, 1948, the only child and son of Vincent Devere Mortimer, SR and Muriel Kathleen Davis Mortimer. He was a member of the Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church, Cincinnati, OH. He graduated from Huntingdon Area High School, Huntingdon, PA. He Attended the ROTC program throughout his college years at Penn State University, State College, PA, He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Science. He Completed his Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University and then moved-on to military service. Vince enjoyed listening to many different styles of music, especially jazz. He sang in his high school and church choir and played saxophone and clarinet in the Penn State Blue BandHe joined the US Air Force in 1974 as a commissioned officer during the Vietnam War era. He had a couple different station locations in different states. His last station in the USAF was Wright-Patt Air Force Base, Fairborn, OH. In 1980 he transferred his government service to the US Public Health Service. His location was the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in Cincinnati, OH, where he finished-out his career in participating in Public Health Hazard Evaluation teams. Employees and/or their employers, requested an impartial investigation to examine the workplace for a contaminant or other toxin that had entered the work environment by accident and was suspected to be causing more illness symptoms. His group published several research papers from their successful investigations in locating a toxin, contaminant or process and giving instructions on proper disposal or remediation He retired in 2004. He enjoyed playing bridge, golf, and tennis for most of his life. He had a passion for train watching, which he did alone and with friends. Vince is survived by his current wife, Margaret Wagner Mortimer and her three adult married children from her marriage to Steven R. Wagner (now deceased) Anne Stout, Laura Sallee and Mark Wagner. He is survived by his two adult married biological children, Neal and Karena Mortimer, from his first marriage to Emily Church Mortimer Wenger, There are 10 grandchildren born from his adult children and adult step children. Vince was preceded in death by his parents. Vince and his wife Margaret at the time of his death were living in Camp Hill, PA, for three months, where he was receiving stage four, aggressive, metastatic prostate cancer treatments, symptom management and comfort care. He was also receiving guidance and direction for care management and special living arrangements and resources, related to both terminal illnesses, planned for after his hospitalization. He passed-away sooner than expected by his family members and caregivers from the aggressive nature and extensive spread of his prostate cancer. Vince's hospital stay in Camp Hill, PA was entirely provided by the Holy Spirit Hospital physicians and staff. It to their greatest tribute that he had their superb treatment, comfort, respect and care. Additionally Vince appreciated the support of Pastoral Care visits from Holy Spirit Hospital which he mentioned several times helped him stay strong, positive and reassured with this additional support. Memorial Services have not been arranged at this time, but will be planned and notified to family and friends and will be held in Cincinnati, OH. in the future. In lieu of Flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Behavioral Variant, FrontoTemporal Dementia Society and/or the Prostate Cancer Society. "Barbara A. Stewart, 70, of Rimersburg, passed from this life into the arms of our loving Savior on October 8, 2023 following a long and courageous battle with health issues. Born April 17, 1953 in East Brady, she was the daughter of the late Walter and June Custer Wiles. On February 22, 1975, she married Daniel Stewart, who will love her until the end of his days. He was her amazing caregiver, and her face lit up every time he walked into the room. Barb was a devoted homemaker. She also cleaned many homes in the surrounding area alongside her friend, Pat. Mrs. Stewart was recently baptized and a member of the United Methodist Church in Rimersburg. Barb was an amazing baker and would happily share her special treats with everyone. She enjoyed her summer vacations at the beach and was content lying in the sun for hours. Barb was happiest spending time with her family and her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her beloved husband, Dan, of 48 years; daughters, Amy Shaner and her husband, Shawn, of Slippery Rock and Megan Smith and her husband, Eric, of Cranberry Township; four grandchildren, Taylor Craig and her husband, Ian, Austin Smith, Makenna Shaner, and Abby Smith; her siblings, Sandy Lapcevich, Walter Wiles and his wife, Patty, Patti McClaine and her husband, Patrick, and Bob Wiles and his wife, Kay; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends who she considered family. Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her parents and a niece, Heather King. The family will receive friends from 2 p. m. to 4 p. m. and 6 p. m. to 8 p. m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the Burns Funeral Home \u0026amp; Crematorium, Inc. in Rimersburg. "Johnnie Allan Nulph, age 77, of Rimersburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at his home. He was born on March 1, 1946 in Climax; son of the late John I. Nulph, Jr. and Shirley Randolph Nulph. Johnnie graduated from Redbank Valley High School, class of 1964. While attending high school, he spent many after school hours helping his dad at Don Philip's garage in Smithland. Following graduation, he worked briefly for Bracken Construction until he was hired by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a Construction Inspector. Johnnie was well known for his knowledge in the asphalt field. He also worked as an EMT for the Southern Clarion Ambulance Service. Following his retirement from PennDot on December 21, 2001, he still worked as an Inspector for a summer and many other engineering firms throughout the following summers. Johnnie married his loving and devoted wife, Cheryl Nulph, on June 25, 1966. They had two loving daughters, Shelly Nulph of Alabama and Melanie Brink of Rimersburg and a son-in-law, Herbert Isbell. He was blessed with a granddaughter, Jessica Brink and her significant other, Andrew Shirey, and 2 great grandsons, Connor Shirey and Corbin Shirey, all of East Brady. Johnnie was known as PaPa to his grandchildren, whom he dearly adored. Other survivors include his brother, Randie Nulph of Climax; his sister, Tana Davison of Mayport; and 3 nephews, Brent Davison, Randie Nulph, Jr. , and Dax Nulph. In his earlier years, Johnnie enjoyed fishing, camping, and attending his children's sporting events. One of his favorite spots to visit in the early morning hours of the day was the Knight Spot, where he would have his morning coffee and chat with his friends. After the Knight Spot closed, Johnnie spent his mornings at the Korner Restaurant, enjoying his coffee and spending time with friends and other retired PennDot workers. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Rimersburg Rod \u0026amp; Gun Club. In addition to his parents, Johnnie was preceded in death by his 2 children, Shawna Nulph and Matthew Nulph; a sister-in-law, Denise Nulph; and a brother-in-law, Richard Davison. "Susan Jane Mortimer, 69, of Rimersburg, passed away at her home early Friday morning, June 30, 2023 following a period of declining health. She was born September 1, 1953 in Butler; daughter of the late Charles Kaetzel and Phyllis Kadel Kaetzel of Port Jervis, NY. Susan was a 1971 graduate of Union High School in Rimersburg and a graduate of Duff's Business Institute with an Associate Degree in Business. Susan and C. Eugene Mortimer were married on March 30, 1974. She was employed by Bendix Home Systems in Clarion and Damon Industries in Brady's Bend. After starting her family, she became co-owner of The Family Closet with her best friend, Cindy Henry Orvac. Susan was then employed at Tom's Riverside in Rimersburg for 27 years until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of the Rimersburg Presbyterian Church PCUSA. Susan is survived by her husband Gene and their 3 children; son, Mark and his wife, Maggie, of Blairsville and their twin sons, Nick and Trent, son, Steve and his wife, Jodie, of Jeannette and their sons, Nash and Colt, and daughter, Megan and her husband, Nathan Hissem, of Latrobe and their children Isaac and Olivia. Her children and grandchildren were the love of her life and many happy memories were made at the beach with her family. Susan is also survived by her nieces, Jill Grenci and Jodie Lahovey; a nephew, Jeff Kaetzel; her mother-in-law, Bette Ann Mortimer; and her aunt, Sue Solida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Pam Kaetzel; father-in-law, Clair Mortimer; and brother-in-law, Wally Mortimer. Susan and her family would like to express a special thanks to the friends that supported them in her final year; Deb Myers, Sharon Borovick, Roxie Randolph, Kathy Kline, Kathy Peters, Cindy Orvac and especially her family and her loving husband, Gene. "Donald E. Hosey, Sr. , 74, of Rimersburg, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, May 19, 2023 at his home. He was born on December 22, 1948 in Brookville; son of the late Earl and Sylvia L. Carnahan Hosey. Don proudly served in the United States Army during Vietnam from 1966 to 1969. He married the former Deborah J. Haggerty on April 1, 1971, who preceded him in death in 2013. Don worked as a coalminer for several years until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0454 and the VFW Club #7132 of Rimersburg. Don was also a member of the NRA and the United Mine Workers of America. He was an avid coin collector and loved to set up trail cameras around his property to get pictures of the deer and bear. Don also loved to sit and watch the deer and bear in his yard. Don is survived by his daughters, Sylvia K. Hornberger of Rimersburg and Kathleen M. Smith of Knox; his son, Donald E. Hosey, Jr. and his wife, Laurie, of Rimersburg; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Albert Samuel Hosey, Raymond Earl Hosey, and Nancy L. Bobbert. "Brooke Pearl Schmader, 30, of Rimersburg, passed away early Thursday morning, June 15, 2023 in the comfort of her own home following a long, but strong bout with cancer. She was born on February 19, 1993 in Kittanning; daughter of Kevin and Tammy Stewart Schmader of Rimersburg. Brooke was a graduate for Union High School. She then worked as a Medical Receptionist for Dr. Joseph Leonard and Dr. Robert Luderer through the BHS Health System. Brooke was a member of the Saint Richards Catholic Church in Rimersburg. She enjoyed any family gathering, especially cookouts. Brooke also enjoyed weekend getaways and shopping. She loved her bling and was quite the fashionista, giving anyone and everyone advice on any type of fashion. Brooke also loved being a fur mom to her cats. In addition to her parents, Brooke is survived by the love of her life and fiance, Curtis Murray of Rimersburg; her bestfriend and sister, Brittany McGuirk of Rimersburg; and her niece and nephew who she was like a 2nd mother to, Addison and Aiden McGuirk, both of Rimersburg. She is also survived by her uncles, Barry Stewart and his wife, Leanne, of Rimersburg, Kelly Schmader of California, Kenneth Schmader and his wife, Janice, of Texas, and Fred Gilfillan of New Jersey; her aunt, Kim Davis and her husband, Bill, of Rimersburg; and her cousins, Colby Davis and his wife, Brittiany, Braxton and Layton Stewart, Angie Brown, and Brian, Jason, Trevor, Trent, Nick, and AJ Gilfillan. Brooke was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ken and Pearl Schmader; her maternal grandparents, Frank and Sandy Stewart; and 2 aunts, Tina Schmader and Suzie Gilfillan.
