Jerry D. Barnhart, Jr, 50, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023. Born February 2, 1973, in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Jerry D. Barnhart, Sr. , and Linda (Hykes) Barnhart of Greencastle. Jerry became a talented welder, learning his trade at the Franklin County Vo-tech. His career of 30 years was spent at Manitowoc as well as Jerr Dan. He was a member of the Chambersburg Rod and Gun Club. He loved the outdoors and there was nothing he enjoyed more that hunting and fishing, with the decor in his home, showcasing his many trophies. Jerry had a good heart and in his healthier days, he loved getting out, and sharing good times with his family and friends. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, appropriately named after his passions: Hunter Barnhart of Fayetteville, PA and Fisher Barnhart of Pueblo, Co. , one brother, Sidney Barnhart of Chambersburg, PA, his maternal grandfather, Glenn A. Hykes of Greencastle; two nephews: Mason and Logan Barnhart; one niece, Lillian Barnhart; his former spouses, Lisa Barnhart and Jessica Matthaei. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Eric Helfrick, and his maternal grandmother, Virginia Hykes and his paternal grandparents, Warren and Tintsey Barnhart. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P. M. , Saturday, October 7, 2023, in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. Greencastle, PA with Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook officiating. There will be no public viewing, however the family will receive friends from 12 noon until the time of the service on Saturday in the funeral home. Mary Jane "Janey" Benchoff, age 86, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Williamsport Retirement Village. Born April 16, 1937, in Greencastle, PA she was the daughter of the late Emmert R. Pensinger and Isabelle (John) Wilson. Janey worked for the former J. Schoenaman Company for 40 years, where she retired. She enjoyed playing cards, people watching, and in her younger years, water skiing. Surviving are three children, Vicky L. Warner (Kermit Elliott) of Greencastle, PA, Michael K. Benchoff (Paula) of Greencastle, PA, and Barbara J. Piper (Tim) of Greencastle, PA; a daughter in law, Linda D. Benchoff of Greencastle, PA; six grandchildren, Derek Piper (Kayla Frain), Kurtis Benchoff, Cyndi Hawes (Eric), Samantha Benchoff, Michael Reath (Jen Shields), and Jennifer Piatt (David); and nine great-grandchildren. Jerome Edward Foreman Jr. , 87, of Greencastle, PA passed away at home surrounded by loved ones, December 3, 2023. Jerome was born July 27, 1936, in Akron, Oh to the late Jerome Edward Foreman, Sr. and Mary Francis J (Countryman) Foreman. He graduated from Hower Vo Tech Akron, Ohio in 1955. Attended Akron Bible Institute; Graduated from National Radio/Television Institute, Kent, Ohio; Graduated from Cleveland Institute of Electronics. He served in the U. S. Army 1959 to 1962. He retired from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as Director of Engineering. He was a member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers since 1973. Former member of Society Motion Pictures & Television Engineers. Holds 1st Class FCC Radio/Telephone license, Certified Electronics Technician, Certified Professional Senior Broadcast Engineer. He was employed as an Electrician for Board of Education; Cathedral of Tomorrow; Maryland Public Broadcasting; Channel 31; PTL Television; WPCB-TV Cornerstone Television; WKSL-FM Cornerstone Television; WHAG-TV; WJAL-TV; WTKK-TV; WCRH-FM; WHGT-AM U. S. Lyle James Paul Williams, age 56, of Greencastle, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at his home. Born in Bristol, PA on August 27, 1967, he was the son of late Lyle James Williams and Zelda Fox Williams. Lyle was a 1987 graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy and a 2001 graduate of CHI Institute, where he earned his Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice. Lyle served as a police officer in both Waynesboro, PA, where he retired in 2019, and part time for the Greencastle Police Department. He was a member of the NRA, FOP and PAL. Lyle enjoyed target shooting, camping, fishing, cooking, building models, and taking Grendel on adventures. Lyle was also a movie and history buff that enjoyed old black and white films. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mary Jo Sandy Williams, whom he married on May 23, 1998; two children, Taylor R. Williams of Quakertown, PA and Erica H. Williams of Hagerstown, MD; two siblings, Beth Williams Schools (Dennis) of Levittown, PA, and James Williams (Kay) of Erwinna, PA. George Brooke Crider, 86, a long-time resident of the State Line area, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning, November 25, 2023. Born February 12, 1937 in Greencastle, he was a son of the late Garold Franklin and Hilda C. Zeger Crider. George was a 1955 graduate of the Greencastle High School and then attended an apprentice program at Landis Tool Company in Waynesboro. He was employed for 37 years at Mack Truck in Hagerstown, MD, retiring in 1999. In his youth he had a few jobs helping local farmers with their crops; worked at the former Greencastle Packing Company during tomato season; and also worked at the former Spitz Potato Puffs in Greencastle. He attended Grace Bible Church with his wife Nancy for many years. His hobbies in retirement were gardening, trout fishing, hunting whitetails, and traveling. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Schindel Crider, whom he married June 5, 1988; three children, Michael W. Crider of Chambersburg, Pamela Showe of Chambersburg, and Bryan Crider and wife Jeanne of Frederick, MD; two step-daughters, Gwen Browning and husband Jim of Green Cover Springs, FL and Sandra Freshman and husband Daryl of Summerville, SC; five grandchildren, Andrew Browning and wife Ashley, Dale Browning, Breanna Showe, Christian Crider, and Addison Crider; two great-grandchildren, Evan and Hunter Browning; and two step-grandchildren and their families, Patricia L. Mark T. West, age 74, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Sterling Care South Mountain in Boonsboro, MD. Born in Olney, MD on September 26, 1949, he was the son of the late Herbert Roy and Mary Katherine Wilson West. Mark was a 1967 graduate of Montgomery Blair High School. He went on to serve honorably in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. After the military, Mark continued his service as a firefighter for the Washington D. C. Fire Department, where he worked for 21 years, retiring in 1994. In retirement Mark earned his EKG Certificate; leading him to work part-time doing sleep studies for the Pulmonary Consultants and Sleep Disorder Centers in Hagerstown, MD. Mark was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, the DCFD Union Local 36, and the American Legion Post 517 in Mercersburg, PA. Mark cherished time with his family. He enjoyed picking up a good book, planting a garden, making hand forged knives, hanging out at home, and as a natural comedian, sharing a good laugh. Surviving is his loving wife of 41 years, Dorothy Dean West, whom he married on March 17, 1982, a daughter, Emily D. Kelley (husband Robert) of Mt. Airy, MD, two grandchildren, Jessica Ashwood (husband Daniel) of Stevenson, VA and Krista Young (husband Luke) of Brunswick, MD, 3 great-grandchildren, and one Brother, Herbert Robert West of St. Louis, MO. Gladys Mellott Coble, 98, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at The Shook Home in Chambersburg. Born April 27, 1925 at Broad Top in Bedford County, PA, she was a daughter of the late Franklin Daniel and Anna Mary Wright Mellott. Early in her life, the Mellott family moved from Bedford County to a farm in Fulton County near Hustontown. She married Richard F. Coble on January 1, 1945. She worked at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg where she operated a forklift moving bombs around the Depot, Doubleday Publishing Company in Garden City, NY, and clerked at several stores in Virginia. Mrs. Coble held a real estate license and worked in the Nursing Office of Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA as a Payroll Clerk. She was also employed at Commonwealth Doctors Hospital in Fairfax as an Operating Room Secretary. After living for twenty-eight years in Fairfax Station, VA she and her husband moved to Newark, Vermont in August of 1974 to a property they had purchased in 1962. They had enjoyed vacationing in the Newark area many times. In December of 1999 the Cobles moved to Greencastle. She enjoyed sewing and made a large percent of her own garments as well as things for her children and home. She loved spending time outdoors, fishing, line dancing, and was an excellent gardener. Her husband, Richard, preceded her in death on August 29, 2000. She is survived by four grandchildren, Vanessa (Noisom) Donnelly and husband Jon of Portland, ME, Gladys Kay (Noisom) Nickless and husband Peter of Bridgeport, NY, Lora (Coble) Thompson of Hanover, NH, and Lisa (Coble) Phillips and husband Geoff of Italy, six great-grandchildren, Kendall Pike, Thomas Pike, Samantha Boivin, Nicole Boivin, Vivian Nickless, and Dillon Phillips; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Charles Cerio; and her daughter-in-law, Gail McCarthy-Coble of Wappingers Falls, NY. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry F. Coble; her daughter, Linda Coble Noisom; and six siblings, Ada, Albert, Ruth, Grace, Olive, and Robert. Mr. Charles W. Myers, Jr. , 87, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 19, 1936, in his home in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Gertrude "Mae" (Sheeley) Myers. He graduated from Greencastle Antrim High School with the class of 1955. He was drafted into the U. S. Army and served from 1959 until 1962. He married Nancy L. (Hardman) Myers August 30, 1963, in Greencastle. He worked as a surveyor and retired in 1995 from Allegheny Power Company. He was a life member of the Rescue Hose Company No. 1 Inc. , Greencastle, and a member of the Greencastle American Legion, the Greencastle Sportsman's Association, the NRA and the AARP. Charles was a talented woodworker who made and sold canes and plaques. He did beautiful, detailed work and was especially fond of carving eagles. He enjoyed hunting, which he did alongside his wife, sons and grandson. He enjoyed watching football, being a fan of the Minnesota Vikings. He was a quiet man, who was right to the point when he had something to say. He was kindhearted and cared greatly for his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Craig D. Myers and his wife, Michelle, of Waynesboro, PA and William L. Myers and his wife, Kelly, of Hagerstown, MD, one grandson, Tyler C. Myers of Greencastle; two great-grandchildren: Kinley N. Myers and Kyler M. Myers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Myers. Services will be held at 10:00 A. Eugene R. "Gene" Carbaugh, 78, of Greencastle, PA, known to many as "Catfish, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, November 15, 2023 at his home. Born August 20, 1945 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Earl and Mary Jane Sampson Carbaugh. Gene served honorably with the US Army from December 11, 1967 to December 10, 1970 and attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. Early in his life he was employed at Domestic Pump Company in Shippensburg and then went to work at Grove Manufacturing in May of 1971. He was promoted to Supervisor on June 20, 1990 and retired in 2000. Following his retirement from Grove he worked for a number of years at D. C. Pattern in Chambersburg as a truck driver. He attended Macedonia United Brethren Church and was a former member of the American Legion. Gene was a master of all trades and always available to lend a hand to anyone. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening, and yard work and he loved spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn F. Etter Carbaugh, whom he married November 7, 1964; two daughters, Melissa D. Heaton and husband David, and Kathleen F. Carbaugh, all of Greencastle; two grandchildren, Tyler Dean Reihart and Kylee Faith Reihart and her fiance Kristopher Rogers; a sister, Earlene Short of Shippensburg; two brothers, Guy E. Carbaugh and wife Dorothy of Chambersburg and Richard A. Carbaugh of Greencastle; as well as many nieces and nephews.
