location-icon

Springfield, MA

In loving memory of Eliezer "Nengue" or "Layo" Martinez, a resilient soul who graced this world with his presence on March 31, 1955, in Isabela, Puerto Rico. A man of great strength and humility, Eliezer lived a life that left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know him. He cherished his family, relished in the simple pleasures of life, and found solace in his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. The echoes of his laughter, the warmth of his generosity, and the depth of his love will live on in our hearts forever. Eliezer's life was one of service and devotion. He spent his professional life working as a farmer, tilling the soil, and reaping the fruits of his labor. He found joy in his work, but his greatest happiness came from his family and friends. A loving father, brother, and uncle, Eliezer was the patriarch of a large family. He was the proud father of Eliezel, Ramon, and Jose Martinez; beloved brother of Rosario Lopez, Eva, Maria, Eduviges, Eleuterio, Etanislao, Jorge, Amado, and Jose Martinez; and cherished uncle to a host of nieces and nephews. Eliezer was also the proud grandfather of ten and great-grandfather of eight, and his love for his family knew no bounds. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dionisio Martinez and Maria Lopez, and his siblings, Nelson and Amalia Martinez. A generous man with a knack for billiards and dominoes, Eliezer spent his free time immersed in these hobbies, often surrounded by friends and family, sharing laughter and stories of old. His love for others was evident in his actions, always willing to lend a helping hand, particularly in manual labor. He embodied the scripture from the Book of Acts 20:35, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." The viewing for Eliezer Martinez will be held at the North End Chapel, 130 Carew Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, on Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a burial service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, at 11:30am. As we remember Eliezer, we invite you to share your memories of him and upload photos on his memorial page. Each shared memory or photo is not just a tribute to Eliezer but a gift to those who loved him. As we navigate through this time of loss, we find comfort in the memories we shared with him, the love he showed us, and the life he lived.
