John Terry Norton

Jun 07, 1949 - Feb 14, 2024

location-icon

Wilmington, NC

On February 14th 2024 John Terry Norton “Terry” passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Terry served his country as a member of the United States Air Force where he completed a tour in Vietnam supporting multiple fighter airwing units. Terry’s love for the outdoors followed him throughout his entire life. He could be found with his wife and son camping, on his boat fishing, in front of a grill cooking, or at his hunting farm preparing for the next hunting season. Terry never knew a stranger, like most retired GE employees he would spend more time talking with someone he knew than he would be shopping during a trip to Walmart. When someone brings up Terry’s name during a conversation his BBQ pork is always brought up no matter the topic of the original conversation. Terry’s love for cooking opened a door for him to create his “super-secret” BBQ pork recipe. This recipe was so secret he only shared it with his niece days before his passing. Cooking for his church, the boy scouts, his family, and anyone who was hungry brought joy to Terry. What brought the most joy and happiness to Terry was spending time with his six grandkids, getting a kick out of giving his daughter (daughter-in-law) a hard time about anything and everything, slipping his 4-legged best friend Silas table food under the dinner table (when he knew he wasn’t supposed to), spending his life with his love Dawn, and spending time and sharing wisdom with his son! Terry is proceeded in death by the love of his life, Dawn Norton (wife), mother Erma Roberts, and father J.C Norton. He is survived by his son Jason Norton wife Amanda Norton, his 6 grandchildren; Mckinley, Ava, Hailey, Hunter, Collin, and John Michael; his sister Lori Ring (Tim), sister-in-law Hope Townsend (Vince), nieces Alyson Abernathy and Courtney Cox (Jason), great-nephew Tyler Rosak, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.A funeral service will be held at 10:00AM Friday, February 23, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Wilmington, on South College Road. A graveside service will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.Share online condolences with the family, here, in the guestbook.
