Dermot McHale, 46, of Woodside, NY passed away on Sunday February 11,2024. Dermot was born to Bernadette and Martin McHale on October 25, 1977. He went to St.Francis Prepatory high school where he played basketball and graduated in 1995. He went on to earn a degree in Psychology from Hunter College. One of his proudest accomplishments was running the nyc marathon in 2011 in under 4 hours. Dermot is survived by his mother, Bernadette, his brothers Eamon (Gina),Kieran, his sister Siobhan,nephews Devin,Breandan and his niece Ally. He is preceded in death by his father Martin and brother Sean. There is no visitation service but there will be a mass on Wednesday February 21st at 11am at St. Teresa’s Church in Woodside,NY. All are welcome to attend the mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, NY.

She embraced her role as a cherished aunt and godmother with boundless love and warmth. Vera is predeceased by her dear husband Robert (Bob) Smith and her siblings, Chell (Cellestine) and her husband Joe Smaha, Mike Repetti, Butt (Al) and his wife Norma Repetti and Pino (Joe) and his wife Terry Repetti. Vera will be fondly remembered for her kindness, wisdom and lasting impact she had on the lives of those she touched. Her absence leaves a void, but her legacy of family, love, and guidance will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to call her family or friend. May she rest in peace.

Kathleen Neary of Woodside NY passed away January 30, 2024 after a short illness. Kathleen was born November 15, 1930 to Joseph and Ellen (Healy) Gilroy in Sligo, Ireland. She was predeceased by her husband Michael J. Neary. She was also predeceased by her brothers Tommy and Paddy Gilroy, and her sisters Rose, Mary Ellen (Armstrong), Margaret, and Bridget (Leen). Kathleen was the sixth of seven children to be raised on the family farm. She went to work at St Columba’s Hospital in Sligo after leaving school. Kathleen emigrated to the United States with her sister in 1957 and went to work at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Harrison NY. She enjoyed going dancing at the Tuxedo Ballroom, City Center, and the Jaeger House in Manhattan. She met her husband Michael in New York. They married in 1963 and settled in Woodside, NY. Kathleen was a nurse’s aide at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Jamaica NY for over 30 years. Kathleen enjoyed reading and going to church. She was a loving aunt to her nephews John Armstrong and John Leen, and nieces Marian Rooney, Margaret Armstrong and Erin Leen. Kathleen will repose at Kennedy-Roth Funeral home from 9am to 10 am Wednesday, February 7, 2024. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:45am St. Sebastian RC Church in Woodside NY. Interment will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx.

OBITUARY FOR ROSEMARIE WALZ - WOODSIDE. QUEENS Rosemarie Walz was born on August 7, 1932 to Lydia and Herman Walz, immigrants from Germany in 1927 and 1929 respectively. She attended elementary schools in Astoria and graduated in 1950 from Bryant High School. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1954 from Hunter College with a BA in Spanish and Education and was elected into the Spanish Honor Society as well as the German Honor Society. She was the recipient of a Fulbright scholarship for the study of German literature in Erlangen, Germany from 1954-55. She returned to Hunter College and received her MA in German in 1958. She was listed in the 1965 edition of Who's Who in the East. She taught both Spanish and German in Richmond Hill High School and Grover Cleveland High School from 1956 - 1982. From then on until 2014 she taught German only at the German-American School in Ridgewood. At the time of her demise on January 25,2024. She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Ridgewood. She was waked at Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels and buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery.

In loving memory of Pablo Rivas, also known as Paul Rivas, born on April 21, 1962, who left this world on January 18, 2024, at the age of 61 in Woodside, N.Y. He is survived by his mother Maria Berta Baca, sisters Olga Rivas, Dolores Baca, Elise Beth Celi; nephews Edward Gonzalez and John Jairo Gonzalez; nieces Joanna Gonzalez, Genesis Celi, and Jacqueline Celi; and life long friend and partner Libia Toro. Pablo Rivas immigrated from Ecuador to Queens, New York at the age of 12. Despite the challenges of adapting to a new society, he discovered purpose. At a young age, he became a United States Marine. After his discharge, he worked for the Food and Beverage industry for many years, assuming different positions at the Empire, Barbizon, and Loews Hotels in Manhattan. Later on in life he pursued a BBA at Queens College; his journey led him to find an honorable position with the MTA as a Power Cable Maintainer, where he worked up until his untimely passing. All his determination and achievements leave a legacy with his New York family and extended family in Ecuador. Visitation will be Monday, January 22 from 4-8PM at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Queen of Angels RCC, 44th Street And Skillman Avenue, Sunnyside, NY. Entombment will be in St. John Cemetery, Middle Village on Tuesday, January 23 at 11:30 am.
