Age - 80
December 8, 2023
The Lord called Segayle Perkins McConnell home peacefully with her husband and three sons by her side on November 19, 2023. Segayle was born March 23, 1943, in Brinkley Arkansas to William Isaiah Perkins, Jr. and Enola Kenrick Perkins. She was a loving wife to her high school sweetheart Austin "Jerb" McConnell, and they were married March 31, 1961. She supported her husband Jerb while he was attending Texas A&M University in College Station Texas and at the same time working on campus in the aerospace building as a receptionist while also starting her family with the births of Theron and Byron. Eleven years later while living in Denison Texas and by God's grace they would add a third son to the family, Shane, as Theron and Byron were happy to have a baby brother. After Jerb graduated from college, they made their home in Rinard Iowa for two years before coming back to Texas to be near family.
Segayle was a homemaker, but also worked for Industrial Indemnity in Dallas, Glenn Justice Mortgage in Sherman, Tone Abstract in Denison, Otek Industries in Longview and later in the mid 80's she started her own business called Segayle's Creations where she made dried floral wreaths & arrangements and other products that she shipped all over the United States. She really enjoyed that venture because she made good friends with her employees while working right beside them.
Segayle was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School in the Special Ministries class for about 29 years with Scott Schulik, Dale Hardy and Paul & Mandy Leggett where she enjoyed teaching all the special needs children and adults. She also enjoyed going to church camp with them as it made her day to see everyone excited about having fellowship with other special ministry Christians.
Segayle enjoyed her Kilgore High School Class of 1961 reunion friends where they got together often and was so thankful for their support, cards & visits during her battle with cancer. She really enjoyed the Christian pamphlets John Leach and Jack Kennard brought her and having them read to her.
Segayle had five grandchildren that she loved very dearly and was always helping and guiding them and they are Rachel McConnell Pratt, Meagan McConnell, Amber McConnell, Paxton McConnell, and Royce McConnell. She also had one great grandchild, Josie Mae Pratt.
She also loved her dogs, Dash and Nala. Dash was able to visit her at Haven Care for a special visit which she thoroughly enjoyed.
She is survived by her husband, Austin "Jerb" McConnell; her sons Theron McConnell and his fiancee Rhonda Fyffe Moore, Byron McConnell, Shane McConnell and wife Cindy; grandchildren, Rachel McConnell Pratt, Meagan McConnell, Paxton McConnell, Amber McConnell, Royce McConnell; greatgrandchild, Josie Mae Pratt; sister in law, Cammie Rounsavall and her children Shannon and Jeremy; brother in law Mike Reeves and son Brandon; and her cousins Kay Blalock & Fay Svoboda; and many other cousins, nephews and nieces.
