Benjamin John Thompson, also known as Ben, passed away on November 14, 2023, in Streamwood, Illinois, at the age of 45. He was born on May 14, 1978, in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Ben was a beloved daddy, a friend and protector of those he loved, and a guardian of compassion. From a young age, he was attuned to other people's feelings, always ready to bring joy and comfort to those around him by clowning around or providing a pat on the back or a hug. Ben grew up in Streamwood, Illinois, and later lived in St. Louis, Missouri; Tuscon, Arizona; and Colorado Springs, Colorado, before settling in Texas over 12 years ago to be near his mother, Sandi, and stepfather, Bob Gordon, as well as his brother Ryan and wife, Tara. His best friend, T. J. Detwiler, joined him in Texas, and they both flourished after graduating from the Oak Ridge Disciple House, where Ben developed a solid relationship with God and sobriety under the guidance of Joshua Harris and Chester Damron. In his personal life, Ben married Tiffany Grooms and they had two children, Abigail and Harley. Although he and Tiffany divorced, they shared their two beautiful children, and Ben did his best to be present in his children's lives even when he traveled for work. He was a dedicated father who constantly called and FaceTimed his children, no matter the distance they were apart. Ben took care of his health by maintaining a healthy diet and enjoyed working out most days at the gym, even while traveling for work. Additionally, Ben had a propensity for many languages and delighted in learning and playfully using mildly offensive words from various languages. Professionally, Ben was a skilled individual who excelled in multiple fields. He worked as a cook, a mover, a handyman, and found his true passion in construction, particularly finish carpentry. He became sought after for his expertise in large-scale projects for renowned companies such as Google, Apple, Dell Medical, and high-end stores like YSL and Prada. He also contributed his skills to various union jobs across the country, including in Puerto Rico. Ben took great pride in being a member of the Austin Carpenters Union 1266. Benjamin Thompson worshipped at First Baptist Georgetown, and participated in a number of Christian groups for men. His faith was a significant part of his life, providing him with spiritual guidance and support. Outside of work, Ben enjoyed spending time with his children, engaging in activities such as tubing, and going on fun adventures with his children, brother and nephew. He cherished these moments and created lasting memories with his loved ones. He enjoyed visiting with his dad either in south Texas or in Streamwood.
